The overall experience in Gora Kansuiro was amazing. Wish we could have stayed for more than one night. It ia very close to the lift and train station. We had traditional tatami rooms with futon. Staff was great, very helpful and welcoming. Our dinner and breakfast were incredible. Overall the best stay we had in Japan.

Food was outstanding, Every dish was spectacular.

The included meal was incredibly complex and truly traditional Japanese. Staff were so attentive to our family.
The meal for the children was completely inappropriate and was fine dining - adult style.

Very nice japanese style room. We had a room with an onsen which was great. Room was large with a nice balcony area. Traditional ryokan experience. Staff are very helpful. Waiters for dinner very friendly.
Value for money is ok but not great. You might do better just staying at a nice hotel and going to a good kaseki restaurant. As other reviewers mentioned the ryokan could do with a little upkeep. I noticed some rotting timber. Also the room had a strange smell particularly when all the doors were closed up at night. Maybe due to hot spring although we noticed the smell in the room and not in the hot spring.

The place is very traditional, meet our expectations to have a traditional Japanese stay.
The facility is old, and need renovation

It is an experience. If you have never try a traditional Japanese onsen before, definitely you should try and experience it.
The garden would be more beautiful in summer and I like winter more as the onsen is better when cold.
Gora Kansuiro is a 100 years old onsen building so please keep that in mind when you visit.
Staffs are warm, friendly and helpful.
Food is great!
Just remember it is a 100 years old building.

Spacious and look nice.
Great private bath.
The house was full of insects in the first day that we couldn’t sleep peacefully and had to work on cleaning up the dead insects in the house.
Food variety was very low.
The dedicated staff was not to our liking, for example, when she asked us for something, she didn’t allow us to finish our sentence then she kept saying what she wanted to explain.
Also, no wifi in the biggest house that is a problem in the mountain.

The meals were very elaborate, rooms were quaint
The ryokan was more suitable for adults and we were the only guests with kids (12 and 10yr old) The kids meals were charged the same way adult meals were, which wasnt ideal given children dont eat as much or could appreciate the refined food. Would only revisit without kids unless they are much older.

True, authentic ryokan experience, beautiful building and gardens. Remarkable kiseki dinners and traditional breakfast.
Some adapting is needed, facilities are not modern. One has to recognize that it's part of the experience.

Lots of space for family of 4. A traditional Inn and onsen experience which was what I was looking for! We all loved the private hot spring bath and the glorious Japanese breakfast and dinner, an extensive sampling of Japanese traditional style food. The aji fish was the best. The service was great with staff making sure our stay was peaceful and relaxing. Walking distance to Gora station but as it was raining heavily on our departure the staff kindly arranged a car to drop us back to the station. Lots of things to do around the area using the Hakone Freepass. We enjoyed visiting the Hakone Park and making glass beads at the craft house. Thanks to the staff for one of the highlights of our trip!
The only thing that could be better was there was a lot of cloud about and we could not see Mt Fuji from the ropeway.

Nice traditional experience and the staff were eager to meet my needs. The hot springs, while a little small, were nice
The room was showing its age. Greeted by a very old musty smell when I walked in. The walls were peeling in places and the carpet had stains. Overall, it just did not feel clean but maybe it's because the place is old

Dinner and breakfast are fantastic! Onsen is good too, very relaxing
I wish our blinds are not closed in the evening, we missed the view in the morning as the view is beautiful and peaceful

My first stay in a ryoken with an onsen. The staff was very welcoming and the property is quite quaint. Dinner and breakfast were also an experience. Hot spring bath was HOT. I had a great stay - thanks
Lots of fish on the menu.

The wifi password did not work and signal was low

The villa has a privat onsen, which we very much appreciated since the public onsen are gender specific. Having our own onsen allowed us to use it together with our son (10month) and he loved it. Also we could adjust the temperatures the water to his comfort zone. The food is also very good, but typical Japanese. So if you are vegetarian or vegan, I can not recommend the place.
Unfortunately the interior is a little out dated and we we entered the villa for the first time we were surprised by the look of the 80ths. But in the end we loved it there.

Amazing Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. It was so nice to have the private onsen in our room. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and did an amazing job with speaking English to help us during our stay.

Very convenient location, less than half a mile from Gora Station & Hakone Cablecar access. Exceptional half board breakfast + dinner experience, with hosts very keen to offer best possible stay.

It is definitely an experience to be in a ryokan in Japan and try traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. The outside onsen is nice, but the indoor pretty small. The room and balcony were excellent even though we have the bathroom outside the room.
Even though we got some discount price for early booking I do feel it is completely overpriced. The dinner was nothing super special and breakfast I didn't even try due to stomach issues -after the dinner the night before-.

The room was stunning, we were surrounded by a Japanese garden and had our own onsen. The staff were very kind and helpful. They catered to my vegetarian diet and provided my partner with a meat version. The room was very clean, large and quiet. The location was very close to the Gora line which made starting the Hakone loop very easy the next day. They also kept our bags for the entire day whilst we did the loop which was very handy.
I think for the price the room is in need of some repairs. For example the paper doors had holes in some of the squares and some of the doors were quite difficult to open. It was also very cold in the room for quite some time as there are quite a few leaky windows. However when everything was shut and we had a onsen then we felt the room was warm enough to sleep in.
