Here's the edited review: Our stay at Le Dimore Dell’Idris was truly magical, even if it was just for one night. The location was perfect for exploring the enchanting Sasso and immersing ourselves in its unique atmosphere. The accommodations were impeccable, with everything looking neat and fresh. In addition, the host was extremely helpful in making restaurant reservations for us. If you're planning to arrive by car, we highly recommend following the host's recommendations and not entering the Sasso zone. Instead, park outside Sasso on the street, it is not far from the hotel, or in the private parking lot further away (which the host can organize a transfer for). Unfortunately, we did not heed the host's advice and now are waiting for a fine to come. Don't make the same mistake we did!

The hotel has refurbished a beautiful old space so that you can sleep in a cave! Very comfortable and I appreciated the focus on environmental care. Great location to visit the town.

Required check-out at 10:30 is a bit early. I could hear the room next door through a door that could have been better sound-proofed.

The location of the hotel was excellent, very central to all the touristic attractions one would want to visit in the centre of the sassi. The view from the room was amazing and the room was quiet. The breakfast was decent enough with a couple of typical items from the area.

The beds could have been a little more comfortable.

A fantastic little hotel in the very special place that is Matera. Our beautiful cave room was actually under Church of Santa Maria de Idris, in the middle of the Sassi di Matera, and I you can't get a better or more central location on the 'old' side of this incredible city. The views of Matera from the terrace which are right outside the rooms are spectacular - and the concierge was so helpful in pointing out the history and highlights of the surrounding areas to visit (complete with great restaurant recommendations too). And the staff made extra effort to make our room even more romantic as it was our honeymoon which was really appreciated.

The rooms aren't *huge* but this isn't really a complaint because you expect it with the nature of the cave style property. The rooms are very elegant and cosy though!

perfect location & shuttle service to the hotel

Breakfast was amazing, staff kind and friendly, room wasn’t the cave I expected but was still nice and unique. Great views from the property and well located in the Sassi near some major attractions and the bus stop to reach the train station.

Was expecting a more cave-like room. The single bed was separated from the double bed in a cozy little nook, which was adorable but had a step and low ceiling that weren’t ideal for getting in and out of bed, especially at night.

Excellent service and great breakfast. Comfortable rooms.

again check in was a little confusing, tons of stairs to our room, and we were very uncertain as to how to get us and luggage to room, it worked out, but could be handled with much less confusion.

The room was cozy and special. very clean! The stuff is very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Location brilliant for a base from which to explore Matera. Very comfy bed, large room and bathroom. Pleasant staff and very good breakfast.

Probably my fault for not reading the description better but I was expecting room to be in a former cave-dwelling. Instead it was in an old original house with a domed ceiling and tiled floor - so while it was very authentic and with a modern fully equipped bathroom, it was not a former cave.

The atmosphere of the town was reflected in the hotel environment. It felt like a “Matera “ experience. Location was great because you could easily find your way back in an otherwise maze of a town. The staff were professional, very knowledgeable and helpful, and friendly too.

It was such a great place. The place was lovley and in the middle of Sassi. We had a little balcony with amazing views. The staff was so nice and helpful. We just loved it, and wished we could have stayed longer!!

Wonderful location (10/10) and friendly staff. They helped us make dinner reservations, coordinated shuttle service and gave us great tips on sites around Matera.

Although the cave was beautifully renovated, it was somewhat humid and damp due to thunderstorms in the area. Not a lot of air flow.

The setting of the accommodation is amazing. We had an outside area we had not expected where we could sit and enjoy the glorious view. The room was large, lovely clean linen and towels. Very impressed with the small shower room. Breakfast was good and all staff very friendly. All the tips we were sent in advance were very very helpful - especially re parking so much appreciated. Staff also booked our restaurant which was good and much appreciated. Matera is fabulous.

The room could be a little more stylish - furnishings quite basic, no pictures etc. Also very noisy at night until 2am with people outside exploring Matera, so didn't sleep that well - but this problem probably affects all accommodation in Matera - and if you want to stay central you just have to accept this.
