Lovely stay at hotel. Staff lovely. Highly recomended

Great hotel in South Kensington. Few minutes walk from SK tube station.
Hotel is located on a quiet street with close access to shops, restaurants and supermarkets.
Modern hotel with well equipped rooms and very friendly and helpful staff.

The room was comfortable, good products, very clean, staff was helpful. All around a good experience.

The property was in an excellent location…nestled between two tube stations. The customer service was great and the lobby was welcoming.Lots to do in the area with great restaurants. It was the rooms that needed a bit of TLC.
It was run done, paint peeling, cracks in the ceiling, water damage.

The stay at the Gainsborough Hotel wasn’t great for us, and I didn’t find our room comfortable; there was a crack in the wall near the bed, and the bathroom wasn’t cleaned as we expected from the hotel we looked at staying in the tap was dirty was never cleaned we felt disgusted touching it and the TV services we were watching wouldn't work we wanted to watch Netflix and Disney + and tried logging in and it would back out from the show to the homepage .

I booked a budget room and it was in the basement or lower ground. It was very cold, there was a blow heater but heat rises and it didn’t make any difference. Had to sleep in my clothes.
The room was a bit musty and depressing.

Great little hotel near National History Museum.
Clean. Tidy. Shower was warm. Just wasn’t sure how the heating / air on system worked.
Room 104.

Comfortable stay in an excellent location. My single room was fine although the bathroom was a little cramped.

Me and a friend stayed here for a few nights , the room was extremely clean and the shower was spotless . I asked for some extra towels and this was not a problem and the kind man on reception brought them up to the room within ten minutes. The breakfast choices offered were a great variety with fruit and yoghurt pots, little pastry rolls and coffee, orange juice , tea and different cereals . The hot food selection at breakfast was ok , including bacon for meat eaters and scrambled eggs which were kept in a metal hot dish.
The window in my room was a bit old however did slide up to offer some ventilation. Really great comfortable bed and wardrobe was sufficient .Staff very friendly and welcoming. If the opportunity arose would book again in future .

Needed a base near South Ken’ underground station for 4 nights - the Gainsborough fitted the bill very well. Hotel clean enough and location was just what we needed. A proper coffee machine would have been great !

The hotel was in an ideal location for us, very close to the Underground along with the Science, Natural History Museum and Royal Albert Hall within a few minutes walk.
This location has gained the hotel an extra star on our review otherwise it would have been three stars.
The room was very simple and basic and as a place to sleep it ticked the right boxes. I must comment on the fact that the fire alarm light flashed all night and was right above the bed which was a bit annoying. There was an intermittent issue where the lights seemed to flicker / flash off and back on again every now and again too.
Finally, and there is very little that a hotel can do about noisy guests but I must point out that the walls seemed extremely thin and we were able to hear other guests almost all night (until around 5am) even though they were just talking. Something we will bear in mind for our next trip to London

Stayed here for two nights at the end of October in a single room. Was delighted to find that, although I turned up over an hour before check-in time (just intending to ask if I could store a bag), my room was ready, which was exceedingly welcome.
Room was of course very small, but perfectly fine for one person without much luggage. It was smart and clean, but a little tired and needed a bit of touching-up in places, especially in the bathroom where the too-small sink meant that there was water damage to the cabinet. Everything was clean, although the non-slip mat was stained and needed a bit of a scrub, but that was no great problem. Room was well-provided with tea, coffee, a very welcome bottle of water and biscuits, although the sink was too small to easily fill the kettle. Bed was comfortable enough, although unfortunately right under the window, so that even with the curtains closed light fell right onto your face - if you're not an early riser, I recommend a sleep mask. Overall, I was quite happy with my stay and would definitely come again. The location was great, with the Natural History Museum at the end of the road, the Science Museum, V&A, Knightbridge and the Royal Albert Hall all walkable for me (with moderately limited mobility).

Enjoyed a good stay and hotel was close to the tube. Being able to use the hotel opposite for drinks was an added bonus.
The room was clean and functional.

I took a single room to overnight. Facilities and decor mostly good but heading to refurb time. Shower was a bit tight - I'm a medium build guy, not much room for arms. Staff were split between functional and happy. I wasn't quite as ecstatic with the breakfast as some folks have been - eggs and ham and cheese and tomatoes were good and fresh but pastries fairly low end, couldn't find any muesli and the single portion Cheerios I opened were just within use by but already stale. Coffee was good. Another uptick is the midday checkout as standard. Things were quiet for the centre of town (at the back - except the stompers above me).

Lovely hotel, however had some issues with the lights and the location of the room as we were given a room in the lower ground, we could hear a lot of noise from outside.

Nice small hotel in an excellent location. Quick walk to the tube, park, museums and shopping. Comfortable room and bed. Friendly welcome and service. Bathroom was modern and plenty of hot water, but there was some mould that needs to be dealt with before it gets worse. Room cleaned daily and lots of complementary items replenished (water, coffee, biscuits, real milk for your coffee), which was a nice touch. Overall would recommend.

I had a very pleasant (1 night) stay at the Gainsborough Hotel. The receptionist at check in was very professional and helpful. The room I stayed in was large with a nice balcony that overlooked the street with a view of the Natural History Museum. The bathroom was very modern and everything in the room and hotel looked clean and contemporary. I had a very relaxing full night of sleep. Overall the hotel stay was a faultless experience and everything you could expect from a 4 star. The price of the room was very good considering the quality of the hotel.

On arrival was greeted pleasantly but no smile which was a shame as had a long journey and it would have been nice. Room was good except for a few small details, such as a few tea/coffee stains on carpet, a questionable brown stain on the net curtain but the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was let down by no towel rail!!??? So had to balance towels on the sink, the bathroom wall could have done with another coat of paint and the general finish in there could be improved. The tile floor, VERY slippy. All in all i did enjoy my stay and would stay again. Stayed in room G1.

The location was perfect for a planned evening out locally and a visit to the Natural History Museum.
Bed was great (firm). Have a wonderful night sleep. Lovely and quiet room.
The bathroom was a bit too small and could have been a bit cleaner but this didn’t impact too much on our stay.

We enjoyed our stay after switching rooms. The first room was so small you had to leave the room to change your mind. The second room was perfect. Would definitely stay here again.

The Gainsborough is located down the street from the Natural History Museum and very close to tube stations and restaurants. The staff was helpful and breakfast was quite good.

All perfect and excellent value, except …. The shower was sooooooo small it was almost unusable!

This hotel is very convenient for South Kensington Underground station and for the Museums on Exhibition road. It is also reasonably priced for the fashionable area it is in. However it is somewhat noisy at nighttime certainly for the rooms facing the street. The single room I booked was small but adequate. There was no safety deposit box and no fridge in the room.

The hotel was great for a short stay, I was in a solo travel room long term it would not have been a great option. The accomodations are good, but the bathroom specifically the shower is very small. You could just turn around but moving your arms was a challenge and the shower head just fit inside the shower so you were constantly under water unless you opened the door and stepped out or turned off the shower head to wash your hair/body. It was maybe 2.5 foot both ways. Short stay it’s good long term not.

Beautiful area, quieter than our previous stay in Mayfair, which was preferable coming with kids.

Great location. Very comfortable bed. We had an amazing breakfast too. I thought it was great value for money given the location.

Comfortable stay and excellent location for Royal Albert Hall. Service great but room needed a little upkeep.
5.0 / 10.0
First time staying in a single room, it was definitely small but for just sleeping in, it was fine. My bathroom didn't have a counter and the sink was the size of a literal shoebox so if you're washing your face, you will likely get water on the floor. The shower was also quite small so just be aware. Had a nice view, bed was comfortable.

Nice clean modern room. The receptionist was very friendly. The road in front of the hotel was one way just fyi when you reach by car. The area is so close to all the museums and South Kensington shopping area but the hotel is located in very quiet street so I had a good sleep. AC in the room was very nice in summer. The elevater was the smallest I have ever seen. It is literally for one person and 1 suitcase but it wasn't never busy so it was ok.
