Swimming pool was cold and we had to pay for the use of the pool which should be stated on hotel.com web site. We picked this hotel due to it having a pool and parking both which we had to pay extra for

Room was very cold amd needed to soeak to hotel staff to het heating sorted. Room was also very noisy with exrernal noise of swimming pool amd spa constant throughout the night.
Hotel is in serious need of updating as needed to unplug kettle/tv to ensure we charged our mobile phones.
Food in restauramt was ok as was breakfast, however no mixed berries for breakfast. No one on hand for a choice of eggs so left with fried.

I use a Powerchair. I found the hotel’s accessibility difficult. The bathroom was not accessible, and I found it difficult to be expected to climb into the shower, which I couldn't. Most accessible bathrooms are the wetroom type.
More accessible sockets would also be helpful and the room was quite cold. It felt like the room was thrown together just so they could claim they had ‘an accessible room’
The charge of £7 per day per device is excessive for wifi. I didn't use it.
It was also irritating to be expected to negotiate my way from the dining room back to my room to get my wallet/ phone to pay for an orange juice I had with my meal.

But otherwise a fabulous stay

This is a grand hotel, which deserves its name. Excellent location to walk to the theatre, town etc.

Was alright, quite noisy early morning with fire doors banging shut. A great lack of plug sockets when we found a near one it wasn't working. This is a grand hotel but cant help feeling the rooms could do with a bit of modernising. Breakfast was good and the staff very accomadating.

It was disappointing. We have been regular guests over the last few years but not sure I'll go back.
Room was too hot, no internet in rooms or public areas, bed too uncomfortable - I even slept on the floor on first night - bath small, distance between bath and toilet very small and I cut my thigh on the toilet roll holder. As it drew blood, I decided not to use the sauna for hygiene reasons and it was mentioned that the chlorine in the pool probably wouldn't be too good for me neither. As we had gone mainly for the pool and spa, that was the end of that part of our break.
Breakfast was also sometimes chaotic; on the first morning, there were no cups for hot drinks, no glasses for fruit juice, no bowls for fruit or cereal and no plates for cooked breakfast. Of course it can be hard to judge what time guests might want to have breakfast but I don't remember this type of situation before, and on the last night, had to wait over an hour for a bar snacks Margherita pizza. Not sure what type was brought but it wasn't what we ordered and I couldn't eat it, it tasted of marmite.

This was probably the worst hotel stay we have experienced. Firstly it wasn't cheap £95 of the room plus £10 for our dog plus £5 for parking. Exterior of hotel impressive, Interior dated and in need of a big refurb. Resembled a care home and food smelled institutional. We were given a room on the ground floor, Great! as we had cases, a dog and bags. Long walk to tiny crooked staircase and our room. Looked like student accommodation with the cheapest furniture, no space to move at all, heating on full blast, which made it like an oven. We had to move the furniture to open the window and wedge it open with a bottle of water. The MOST uncomfortable tiny double bed, we didn't sleep at all! Horrible horrible, the photos say it all! The extremely pleasant cleaning lady, said next time ask for a room on the main floor! Definitely won't be a next time!!!! Coach loads of people on cheap trips with anyone else subsidising their costs I presume! We were room 8 unfortunately.

Lovely check in. The receptionists was friendly, efficient, professional and had superb local knowledge.
The hotel is well maintained, and beautiful.
The pool was clean and calm with nice staff, with excellent sauna and steam room.
Our stay was perfect.

Possibly the worst bed I've ever slept on, room not made up during stay.

The breakfast was not the best they need to buy better sausages and offer scrambled egg. The mushrooms were great. Otherwise the hotel decor had improved from last time I whent.

Before booking the hotel, I read reviews (for the standard double room), it was not so great, but it's the only place we found with availability near where we were going, so I went ahead and booked it.
Upon arrival of the hotel, the outside and the lobby were beautiful, and they had the air of elegance, and there were many well-dressed cliental, and looks like it's a place for a destination wedding. Well, we were sorely disappointed with our room. Here are a few major and minor issues:
* OUR SINK WILL NOT DRAIN.
* We only had one set of towels, and they were SO THIN and old and ratty.
* The room was small that you cannot move your suitcase around the bed without lifting over the bed to it to the other side.
* There were 2 packs of coffee (all others we been to had 6 or more packs)
* No elevator to our room, 3 flights up (something to consider)
* All the pillows were hard as a rock
The only good thing I can say is that it is clean. I can put us a lot as long as the room is clean.

I enjoyed staying in this large grand hotel near the station for a very reasonable price. The compact room was a bit bigger than expected and the bathroom had a large bath with shower. I only stayed one night but was disappointed that it was advertised with an indoor pool yet that wasn't available due to renovation. Otherwise a very nice stay.

We had a nice two night stay at the hotel in a compact double. It was definitely compact with just enough room to move round the bed but that was okay. Maybe if they removed the bath fro the shower room and had just the shower it would make more room.
The room was too warm and it was quite and effort to open the window as these were heavy sash windows and I had to prop it open with a shoe. Unfortunately we backed on to the ventilation system which was going all night.
The breakfast was very nice. It was buffet style but everything was cooked really well. It would be useful to have a second tea and coffee station.
The hotel was very well place for everything we wanted to do over the weekend.
Parking was an additional cost and we struggled to park when we got back to the hotel.

There was no mention on Hotels.com that swimming pool, sauna and hot tub is beeing refurbished. Average room furniture, could get a better room for much lower price if i knew there is no swimming pool and sauna

The hotel itself was beautiful in the main areas. Our room was the worst we have stayed in. The bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling, rusty pipes, broken tap, broken toilet seat, the flooring was lifting, mold, no plug for the sink, the net curtain didn’t close and you were seen in the shower. We paid a high amount for this hotel as we specifically wanted to use the spa only to find it was shut for a refurb. We spoke to reception who said the hotel was full and they couldn’t move us. We didn’t want to use the bathroom or shower and spent the evening out of our room only to sleep and leave in the morning as early as possible. Will not be going back nor recommending it.

We have visited several times now and feel really at home there. The food is very good too.

Clean, comfortable with good service. Close to train station and the town. Quiet stay.

Do not recall any information with regards to the pool being under refurb and the gym being used for material storage.
The room was as clean as it could be but it was so dated and everything well used/worn

We had a very pleasant stay. Sorry the swimming pool was being refurbished. Will check it available next time we book.

One night stay for anniversary and booked as it said there was A swimming pool and spa I was informed that it was closed for renovation even on hotels it said nothing about it being closed. The bathroom was a joke. You had to walk sideways and could barely get on the toilet. Didn’t even try to attempt to use the shower. The rooms were very dark with no access to open the window, just a fan and also the bed was so uncomfortable. I’ve never been in such awful hotel.

Room though large and clean need refurbishment. Plenty of hot water but bathroom dated from about 1985...and looks it. Ground floor open ateas in good condition and cheap parking (£5 per day). Bedrooms need updating though...

A really lovely grand hotel, it looks and feels really luxurious in the public rooms which have been recently renovated. If the same was applied to our room this hotel would have the super wow factor. We will definitely return here

The rooms were dated. The first room we had to vacate it was smelt damp and was dark. We were re located to another, but the sink was cracked and the baths enamel was pealing in one place. Will not be returning

Its a good base for exploring the Peak district. The room space is large enough even though I’ve booked a compact room. Although, the hotel is a good base to explore around, the room is not regularly cleaned when we go out and the towels are not changed. Also, the shower/bath is leaking. Parking is also a problem as I paid parking for 3 nights but on the 2nd night, the parkung is full and I have to find parking on the street. Though, the hotel refund the night I wasn’t able to park, I find it incovenient to look for parking space that should have been reserved for guests who paid in advance. Despite all of these, the staff are very accommodating, friendly and helpful.

This was My first stay in this hotel and paying over £100 a night for admitedly a spacious luxurious room is it not a bit much to then have to pay a further £5 a night to park in its grounds....
The only problem I encountered was the intermitent wi-fi signal and as regards the T.V. given the clientele I would strongly suggest they add the 'Talking Pictures' channel to those we can watch.

Wonderful 1 night stay, everything was perfect, large twin room with a very large bathroom. Our 4th time of staying and we've never had anything but good to say about the Palace, staff and Buxton itself.
Thanks

I booked for the leisure facilities, but they were closed.

Great time at the Palace Hotel.
Only thing that let them down is the bar service...it is very slow.
2.0 / 5.0
The staff were excellent. The bed had earwax stains on the blanket, and the ceiling had a large brown smear on it, not like a watermark, much darker and deliberately smeared. The bathroom looked nice, but when you ran the bath, the shower turned on, you could either have a bath with a shower running, or a shower going from hot to cold occasionally. Otherwise, it was a pleasant trip.

Very tired old hotel…. Amazing building from the outside. Could do with a £1m makeover.
Plug hole in the sink blocked when we first turned up to the room, towel rail was hanging off the wall. The sink in the bathroom is too small to fill the kettle up which is provided in the room. Bedding not clean. The room had not been checked before it was let. Cheap price but Hou can see why.

Lovely place for a quiet break and easy access to surrounding landmarks.Unfortunately the pool was closed for renovations.

A lovely old hotel and relatively clean but interaction with staff very poor. No discussion on check in about dinner or breakfast, parking is charged but they don’t record your vehicle number so not clear which car is for which room. Anyone can use the tablet to record reg number.
Cheap, not so cheerful but stayed in far worse and most of them Britannia.
4.0 / 5.0
The bedroom was very small, with the toilet in a cupboard, but for the price at a 4 star hotel not unexpected. the hotel was a bit shabbier than I expected, and the layout downstairs a bit odd, but an old building so perhaps understandable (the entranceway/stair is stunning). We didn't test the spa. location great, and perhaps if we'd spent more the room would have been better.
