The Cenobio Hotel facility and staff were excellent. While our stay was short, the experience and memories will be etched in our minds and hearts forever. Don’t hesitate to book a memorable stay.

We had an amazing stay at the Cenobio Hotel! It can be a bit tricky to find if it's your first time in Matera, and you can't drive directly to the hotel. Plus, there are some steps to navigate both downhill and uphill. Knowing this from other reviews, we contacted the hotel before our arrival. They arranged a shuttle from the car park, which made things super easy for us. I highly recommend doing this if you're planning to stay here. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, making us feel right at home. Matera, and especially our stay at the Cenobio Hotel, turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip to Italy.

We only had one night in Matera and wanted to stay in a cave, and what a cave it was!

Gorgeous hotel right in the centre of the town. Beautiful views from the room. Hotel was quirky and unique.

This hotel was amazing and the service was even better. We decided to walk through Matera from the parking structure to the hotel but got lost. One of the staff members walked out to find us and bring us to the hotel. Then, because it was late, he called a local restaurant and asked them to keep the kitchen open while we hurried down to have dinner.

Everything was beautiful from the details inside to the view outside!

The property, staff and amenities were beyond expectation. The only thing that did not work was the WiFi, my room could not pick up the signal.

The only problem is that there are 85 steps to reach the hotel, we had a hard time going up and down , it would have been helpful to know in advance. Thank you, Louise Marchand

We only stayed one night at Cenobio but we really enjoyed it. Specially staff like Mario, went over and beyond to help us in anything we needed. They helped us with luggage since the hotel is not close to main streets and we had my to worry about the car. The view from our window was breathtaking. We will totally return to this beautiful hotel.

It was a clean, cozy, and warm room with enough space for a family. Staffs were friendly. Easy to take a look around Matera while walking. Good experience to stay in a cave hotel.

I did not like that when I first requested parking it was not communicated that the acces to the hotel by car was not permitted. I made the reservation and counted on the information provided on your site, which did not warn of any issues regarding parking. The hotel advertised that parking was available and it was it. Between my reservation and checking, the hotel sent me information by mail warning me about the need to park outside the ZTL area and gave me instructions about parking. Unfortunately, by the time I read the hotel message I had already attempted to go straight to the hotel, which I later found that it wasn’t possible and had actually committed a traffic offense for entering the ZTL zone by car (I went in and out right away after being warned by a resident that I had committed a traffic violation). The traffic violation has not arrived but after searching for information about this, I learned the fine would be considerable - between 90 and 180 euros! I believe the whole thing was a bad experience that could have been avoided if given the right information when making rhe reservation online. Not fair, and not a good busines practice.

Staff is friendly and helpful, service is excellent. Breakfast is very good. Room is comfy and elegant. Location is good, minutes away from lots of sceneries. Highly recommended.

Cenobio Hotel Matera was perfect. If you have a car, pay for the parking and pick up/drop off. Well worth it. Mario was amazing and just a very pleasant guy to welcome you to the hotel. He made a reservation for us at Annina 1937 which was delicious. The rooms were a good size and very clean. Great showers. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay.

Very nice hotel. Clean. Great Breakfast. The only thing negative was, that staff was seating in the lobby on the chairs. It was unclear are they staff or guests. Also after we entered they didn’t really get up. They were friendly and helpful, however it just leaves a bit of an unprofessional touch to it. They were also sitting there during breakfast.

We had a loverly stay. A very nice Hotel. Mario was a great host and everybody was very welcoming and friendly. A nice quite hotel with a great view. We will be coming back.

Cenobio is easily one of my most favorite hotels. Staying at Cenobio was a unique experience and we hope to return one day. The hotel is very clean and the staff is the friendliest and most accommodating and helpful we encountered in all of Italy. Betty was very communicative and responsive in coordinating our arrival. She helped us arrange our parking and facilitated our transfer to the hotel. Damiano was very helpful once we arrived by helping with our luggage, walked us through a Matera map, and included recommendations for dining. He made reservations for our family of four at Annina, a unique dining experience in a cave and located just a few minutes away. We stayed in the family suite with the river view. The suite had modern amenities in an ancient location. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the AC was quiet and effective (a must when visiting Matera in July). Like someone previously mentioned about the overall Matera experience, there are stairs everywhere. So be prepared, but do not let it deter you from the experience, and especially from staying at Cenobio. Highly recommend!

Fantastic location with great views across the gorge. This means that access is not great. The (paid) parking is a little way away, although a transfer can be arranged - for a fee. We had a suite, which was very atmospheric, but a couple of slight niggles - just one comfortable chair and as other reviewers have mentioned, the air con and dehumidifier are a little noisy. All the towels were changed daily - unnecessary for a two night stay, with no obvious way of saying not needed. The ‘glasses’ for both the minibar and in the bathroom are plastic, which doesn’t feel right for a hotel of this obvious quality. The breakfast was good with a large range of the foods. Due to limitations of space only small quantities are put out at a time, but they were replenished regularly, and if something was missing, you just had to ask. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience in Matera, which is a beautiful town not to be missed.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, nice quiet area with magnificent views. The breakfast choice is quite poor compared to other offerings in the area and the wifi is very bad, luckily we did not need to work while there.

An amazing stay! The suite was extraordinary and beautiful with everything you would expect but in a cave! Set right amongst all the old part of town, this hotel is a must and would definitely recommend.
