We had an amazing time here. The owners and staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Views from the patio and pool are spectacular and facilities include complimentary onsen overlooking the sea. E-bikes can be rented on site and many attractions can be reached this way. It is possible to prebook an exceptional 5 course Japanese meal in the on site restaurant, the best food we have had in Japan, as well as eating at a cook your own Bbq restaurant next door. Every evening the poolside bar serves very reasonable drinks and guests can relax and mingle. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.

Great onsen pools as well as a regular pool. All was very clean and Well maintained. Staff was friendly and kind!

Location is just a short walk away from Shirahama Beach where convenience stores and surf shops can be found as well. The building is a quaint open-concept villa that is very clean and cozy considering the beach location. We loved the "kashikiri" private onsen/hot tub on site with ocean views. Will definitely recommend to future visitors to Shirahama or Shimoda.

Staff were very kind in person but unresponsive to email inquiries before our stay.

Everything about this place is lovely. The breakfast is delicious, the staff very friendly. You can rent bikes to go around and the rooms are comfortable. The onsen and the pool are excellent.

As said, everything was lovely.

I don’t think I can do Gardenvilla justice with my words. I love this hotel so much and the people that work here. firstly the outlook - wowee, this is so beautiful. the new pool is awesome! we swam a lot even though it was quite cold still in May. a short walk to the two best beaches around where we swam too. also - we hired the bikes which were so good, we rode about 50km in one day on them. the meals - omg, the best we had in Japan - do yourself a favour and get the dinner one night at least and the brekkie yum yum. finally - just wanted to send a big thank you to the beautiful people who run this place. thank you for looking after our honeymoon celebration. My husband and I have been several times to this establishment and it is always amazing. The people are very helpful and kind, the food is amazing, the scenery is extraordinary, it’s not even two minutes to a bus stop to the nearest station. It is always clean and comfortable. The amenities are wonderful. We cannot say enough great things about Gardenvilla Shirahama…it is the only place we stay in Shimoda.

We were really enjoying the greatest breakfast and make a fruitful day.

Great breakfast! The pancake was amazing! The view from our room was excellent, we had a sea view. The staff and the owners are very friendly. It's clean everywhere.

The internet connection was a bit weak.

It was so well done, from the outdoor barbecue meal, to the room set up, everything was put together so well, and very inviting, I would love to return as soon as we can.

Super close to the beach (walking distance), we were able to store our surfboard on site. Parking on site and free. Onsen on site. Restaurant right next to the hotel. Great living room area to eat and chill in. Would stay again!

The restaurant had weird hours (although this is not a reflection on the hotel).

Location was close to beach and short drive to other attractions. The BBQ was a wonderful experience and one of the highest rated restaurants in the area!

The view is very nice. You can walk around in their garden, to have a BBQ dinner. The staff are helpful. I recommend on their breakfast.

Excellent view, and the staff was very friendly. Free drink selection was nice as well. The outdoor bath was enjoyable, though you have to reserve it ahead of time. Had everything we needed.

My wife thought the outdoor bath time's 40 minute limit was a bit short. The driveway up to the parking lot was incredibly steep, our car could barely make it. Rooms were a little tight.
