Beautiful remote setting. Very comfortable and clean accommodation. Great staff. Great meals & portions. Good communication through email.

Unfortunately the meals were a bit expensive. The property had warned us in advance that this may be the case (remote island, inflation etc). We were glad we had the heads up or may not have brought enough cash.

The rooms are small and basic but nice, bed comfy, and the bath has a nice view.

The prices of food. Prepare yourself. There are no other restaurants around and they charge a fixed 500 php per person for breakfast, 600 php for lunch and 700 php for dinner from a very limited menu (3-4 options with lunch being regurgitated dinner options). What you get is a pretty basic plate of food you'd pay less than half the price for elsewhere. By the time you add this up over a 24 hours period, you may as well have paid for a nicer room at a more expensive hotel where they don't trap you with such an overpriced fixed menu. This is what we'd have done if we had our time again.

Really nice location right on the beach. The bungalows were really cool with their own bathtub with a seaview. There is a possibility to rent kayaks and bikes. Plus, the beer is cheap!

Expensive transfer.

Russ, who was on site, was super helpful but constrained by the overall state of the property which is suffering from a lack of repair. His cooked breakfasts were great as were his specials (note that the property offered expensive set meals but the cooks decided not to come in during the days I was at the property). The (fresh water spring supplied) pool in the room was an unexpected surprise. Pretty much had the whole beach to myself This is on the non-touristy side of the island, pretty remote from anything Links with Dugong Diving Center, though if their boat cannot approach the bay (high swells in December) you have to make your own way to their centre (20 minutes by van or scooter). See further comments below.

Property prices are at a premium however the finishings and furnishings were not! Water pressure in the room was low and sometimes there was NO water. (2 mornings). To empty the spring water tub, the internal plug didnt work (had to use the general tap on the outside of the building). The internet is on a mobile phone network but the incorrect one for the area (SMART does not have great coverage) - Frequent dropouts of internet therefore. I know this as I spent time deciphering the internet connectivity one morning! I came with the idea of doing mountainbiking but all the bikes were rusty (suspension blocked through rust). No available maps as to where any mountainbiking (or walking) could be done in the area. Highly expensive pickup/dropoff rates to the airport (2500 pesos - over 50USD). Expect more if you wish to go to Coron. Tribal Adventures (who also run this property) do offer tours, but this is in Coron, not at this hostel. Dugong Dive Centre (who can do boat pickups from this property) suggested I go to the hotel just down the beach as their scooters were cheaper than here. (they couldnt pick up on the days I was there due to the swell) This hostel is isolated from anywhere else on the island. If you do not have your own means of transport (motorcycle) this may be an issue.

The staff were helpful IF you asked but didn't offer any sort of welcome information. Their English was limited but they were nice ladies and friendly The owner offered assistance and gave me his own cream for insect bites. Thank you. Free cold water in reception but they charged 20Ps for a pot of tea when other hotels give it free The owner offered another couple 2 for 1 on the dugong trip, so ask, Not enough food provided on the trip and again little information about exactly what would be happening. You can walk to another bay and cross the sandbar to a different island but you will have to ask about this as no one tells you what there is to do. Watch out for sea urchins there. You have to pay to rent a sea kayak here but we stayed in Balinsasayaw where it was all free. Bikes to hire but again you had to pay.

There is NO pool at all although this site states that there is. No information given about what there was to do and to see, we had to keep asking and asking. We were shown to a room with separate bathroom and it wasn't until I pointed out that we should have an ensuite that they realised that they had given us the wrong room. The Bungalow with sea view is advertised as being " located on the ground floor". It is all on one level once you get there however there are several steep steps to climb up the hill The beach is NOT private but shared with another hotel It is NOT a white sand beach and the sea if often far out so you have to walk over a muddy expanse to reach the water. Over priced. We paid in £5 advance for breakfast. When ordering we were told that it was continental only. I pointed out that it doesn't say continental and booking.com says "breakfast" so we expected a cooked breakfast for £5. (300 PPs. ). After discussion I managed to get 2 eggs and 3 pieces of toast with jam. Not well presented. When we checked out however they tried to charge us 50 Pps extra for each egg. Again we had a disagreement and after hassle the owner who was having his breakfast at the time said as it was pre paid, that, yes, we should have had eggs included. We had to fight for what we had already paid for, as staff don't know what their booking system includes. There was no fruit and no juice. Poor compared to other hotels on the island. The photos on the website dated. Our room was dirty, old and not maintained. The mosquito nets were full of holes and as the door and window shutters weren't airtight the room was full of insects. I would not stand on the 2 bath mats as they were filthy. The internet only worked in reception and they turned it and the hot water off without notice! We had to ask them to turn it on again Had to sit on wooden benches for dinner surrounded by 5 large dogs.

Fantastic place away from the city. Beautiful beach! Rustic, charming typical local cottages with amazing view and comfortable beds. Wi-Fi at the reception area only and not very good but mobile data worked well. Not suitable for people who are looking for social atmosphere, but ideal for those looking to get away for a bit. Good food but can only be purchased with cash. Various activities available too ( bike rentals, kayak, boat tours). Highly recommend!
