Overheated room

It is a lovely and beautiful, slightly quirky hotel in one of the most scenic areas you can have in a city, close to a park and close to the ferries, and where the boats for whale watching leave. The art nouveau breakfast room was particularly beautiful, but also there rooms and the hall ways. Tea, coffee and cooled drinking water were available in the foyer.

We loved it.

Location was excellent we parked the car for 4 days & proceeded to walk everywhere. Old hotel with a lot of character staff ever day were very friendly & accommodating. Very quiet area at night safe area to stay in & walk to restaurants. Nice pub in the basement of the hotel

das Zimmer hatte für uns an europäische Betten gewohnte ein riesiges Bett, für wohl 4 Personen, somit genügen Platz für 2. das Hotel ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber gut unterhalten. Von aussen ruhig, innen kann es lauter sein falls die Personen im Nachbarzimmer laut sprechen, zum glück erst am morgen nach 07:00.

nichts, das Hotel hat keinen Lift somit müssten Personen mit einem Handicap dies beachten, die Treppen hoch in Lobby kann für diese Personen schon eine Herausforderung sein. Wir sind noch jung genug und hatten 0 Probleme.

Property was an easy walk to the downtown area. Suite was well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Fantastic king sized bed and the kitchen had a kettle, coffee maker and everything else you could need.

The cafe downstairs was great. The staff at the hotel were very kind and professional. The location was perfect- close to the park and easily walkable to many things.

Could use a little updating in rooms - like simple touches of usb port lamps.

The restaurant was unique. Breakfast was delicious and of good value.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and most welcoming. The amenities were very nice. The pub felt like a community pub with a village aura which we enjoyed. The food at the pub was tasty and plentiful and priced well. The restaurant was very good as well with reasonable prices. The building was charming and the location excellent and within walking distance to downtown. The surroundings were pleasant and quiet. We will definitely come back when we are in Victoria again. This has been our favourite hotel of the three we have been at in the past three months.

Nothing for the price that was charged. The room was small but very clean. We have stayed in other hotels in Victoria recently and the James Bay Inn was our favourite.

Superbly accommodating and pleasant staff, especially, on checkin, the receptionist Roy. (Everyone was lovely and kind and helpful.) The fridge was very useful.

I was able to get hot water from the bathroom sink faucet in mere moments, but no amount of running the H faucet in the tub resulted in hot water. Somewhat disappointing not to be able to have a hot shower.

lovely well cared for and greatly loved old style hotel. Helpful polite staff. Simple but simply great.

There was absolutely nothing to complain about. :-|

Having our own little apartment was great. Beds were comfortable.

Overall it was very good! These are small things. Would have been nice to have room fully equipped for coffee/ tea (there was no tea/creamer/sugar). Room was a bit too warm but thankfully we were able to open windows. People chose to smoke outside the pub just outside of our side windows (gratefully this was not a frequent occurrence)

We had to check in very late and the person at reception was excellent. Process was seamless and she was very empathetic to our tiredness. The room was spotless and everything supplied was great. When we needed to store our bags, also very accommodating and helpful

Only issue was our room was across from staff "lunchroom/set up area". So at 7 am when they came into work it was not as quiet as I would have liked.
