besides Carrie being the most welcoming owner ever, there was so much to applaud about her home...Starbucks is literally next door - well 1 1/2 blocks away - but still the beauty of early mornings at the coast when its still dewey and you can stroll to get coffee is a perk...sundays there is a farmers market ACROSS THE STREET that has honey, kombucha, French pastries, Italian pastries, full coffee bar, fresh pasta and sauces, flowers, produce and the list goes on...you can either walk to two great beaches...one is secluded and cozy the other great for boogie boarding and sand games...the corner market has anything you could need from local vendors along with homemade Mexican delights...but the house...airy and homey...a sunroom you can drink that lovely morning coffee and eat your pastries...three full sized futons that fold out...two bedrooms tucked away for privacy...loved the pocket doors that gave an extra amount of privacy and kept sound out for sleepers...the kitchen has anything you'd need to cook away from home...large tvs that had all your apps you use at home to watch your shows...but the garage...lets dwell on the garage...a full sized bar quality old fashioned shuffleboard, a gorgeous pool table and foosball table...old radio on the wall for just enough music you can all sing to...open the garage door to watch the world go by and get that afternoon cross breeze you'll be longing for...if youre lucky you'll see the Capitola Fire Dept go by on their rounds and wave

The house was literally the most well appointed rental I have ever had. From the towels, coffee filters, first aid, games, etc etc. literally didnt have to pick up anything other than food to cook. Super clean and functional. Really well kept up.

We were here celebrating the 93rd birthday for my father-in-law. This place was very conveniently located and was a great place for his birthday dinner. The kitchen was well stocked with essentials and there was a perfect outdoor table for the eight of us. Highly recommend this place.

Carrie was very easy to communicate with & the house was a perfect layout for grandparents down to the toddler. Fresh, clean, spacious; yet privacy available. Backyard was wonderful for play, atrium was sunny & bright and well equipped and the beach was perfect for sand play as well as boogie boarding. Three generations all had a super terrific time and no one wanted to leave!!

We had a great stay and really appreciated that the home had so many children's books and toys!

Loved the location! Loved everything about it, except for the beds were like sleeping on a sheet of plywood. Nothing a simple mattress topper couldn't fix, though. Owner is easy to work with, and even let us keep our car parked in the driveway after we checked so we could enjoy the beach for the day, which is a super short walk from the house! We will stay here again and again if the mattress's get comfortable tops on them.

We wished we could have stayed longer and taken full advantage of everything Ansel’s Hideaway had to offer. From the brightly colored Adirondack chairs in front, to the cheery sunroom, the pool table, fuse ball, shuffleboard in the garage, board games, high end TVs, a beach within walking distance, great WiFi, there was a good time to be had by everyone in our party. We will definitely stay there again.

Great house for our family, we had 3 grandchildren who had a great time at the beach, 2 blocks away. We had my daughters birthday, great house for all can’t wait to get back. Doug

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ansel's Getaway. The house was clean and spacious. The only complaint was with the comforters on the beds. They need to be replaced as the polyester stuffing has shifted so that there is a lot on one side of the blanket and none on the other side. The kids really enjoyed the pool table and other toys in the garage and the short walk to the beach. We may come back next year and will make reservation as soon as everyone can agree on a date.

The house was exactly as described, was well stocked for cooking in the kitchen and dining either indoors or outside in front or back (we ate at night out back!). It was relaxing to walk to both nearby beaches and not have to get into a car! Parking was easy and it was a nice clean family house, great location!!

Everything in the kitchen was labeled. There are two barbecues and plenty of space. The games in the garage are a big plus! Would definitely recommend to anyone and rent again.

Celebrating , relaxing and enjoying time with the family worked out perfectly here. Close enough to all the places we wanted to visit . And great little sunny cove beach. The house was set up exactly as expected and came very well equipped for all our needs. The owner was great to work with and let us know we could contact her if we had any questions during our stay. We had a great time at Ansel's Getaway! Pros: *Awesome location to walk to Sunny Cove and the Farmer's Market (plus Starbucks, Hawaiian Restaurant etc.) and quick drive to Boardwalk and downtown. *Giant picnic table out front for lovely al fresco meals with everyone at the same table. *Game room with pool, shuffle board (my favorite!) and foosball; and kids toys inside. *Fan in family room heavenly when the temps climbed. *Great TV to watch the Warriors clinch the NBA Finals! *Parking passes for 2 cars. Great for parking at the house and also at local beaches that require the same passes! Notes: *The kitchen and bathrooms appear to be original, i.e. not an updated home, which was fine with us, but just set your expectations there.... *More than one key to the house would be great b/c people may be doing different things and want access to lock up/enter the house separately, and the lock box is a b***h to open! *A table/tables in the game room would be great to set beverages!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation at the Ansel house. It was a perfect place for 3 families with kids! Game room was very fun, unbelievable to have the shuffle board! Lots of toys and books for the little ones. Plenty of room for sleeping and very comfortable! We managed to pull off a Thanksgiving dinner and enjoyed the front patio with a very big picnic table for our setting. It was great to have a fenced back yard with grass for our 1 yr. old grandson to run around. The only negative comment would be there needed to be newer skillets in the kitchen, otherwise there were plenty of dishes and pots and pans. I would highly recommend this property, owners were great to work with! Melody Smith

My family and I celebrate our mothers memorial every year in Santa Cruz. This year we decided to try a house rental rather than a hotel.. Everyone in our family enjoyed this home. What I loved most, was how family friendly it was. There was so much to do for the kids and adults. There were games and a huge backyard. And although there were 6 adults and four kids , we never once felt cramped. I was amazed at how much was provided. I actually overpacked. We had two young toddlers and everything from toys to bedding to high chairs were provided. The older kids loved the beach being so close to walk to. Loved the nearby stores. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to return next year. Online pictures don't do this place justice. Much bigger and better in person. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to enjoy some time in Santa Cruz.

Great location. Garage room was tons of fun... good teens and adults alike. Lots of space.

This place is absolutely awesome. It has a vintage feel and the location is just perfect -- minutes away from the beach. There's an entire game room in the garage, so it's an awesome place to spend time and relax with your friends. There's a big grill, so you can have a great meal. There's also a backyard and a front yard. Both have huge tables, so they're great for sunny breakfasts, chilled lunches and early dinners.

We loved the house. There's so much to do and available there. The rooms are big, there's a lot of places to sit/sleep, and the kitchen is a little dated but everything you need is there. Loved hanging out in the sun room, eating meals in the back yard, and the garage entertainment means you never need to leave the house! The cove just down the street was amazing for swimming and a semi secluded bon fire on the beach. Communication from Carrie was awesome. It was definitely a home away from home and perfect for us. Thank you and we will for sure be back!

Ansel's Getaway was very accommodating to a group of 10 people. The front yard quad with the picnic table and beautiful plants was a great first impression. The home was very spacious despite it being a 2 bedroom. We hung out in the living room and dining room area the most. It was homey & comfortable. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need, wine glasses, wine opener, and even salt. You just need to bring your own food and drinks. Sunny Cove beach is just 1 block, a few min walk away. There's enough parking for 4 cars on site. I really appreciate that Carrie, the owner, was so easy to work with. She's very responsive to calls and questions. I would definitely recommend this place if you have a large group.

Great home for 3 generations. My parents started the week at the house and we (me, husband & 11 yr old) joined them for an extended weekend and there was plenty of room and great location. Very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. A local family member decided to spend a night and easy to accommodate another person. My mother was very happy to see the Starbuck's a block away and drank her morning chai on the bench at 17th overlooking the ocean. We spent lots of time at Sunny Cove beach and used the Frisbee and a few other sand toys. Very fun evenings challenging each other to pool and shuffleboard games. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. We have already booked another vacation and this time plan to have my sister, husband and young family join us as we feel the house is perfect for 2 families with young kids and is not that far from the Boardwalk and the Harbor. Manager was very easy to deal with and prompt in responding.

Arrived and the house was really clean.Walked right to the Beach and was amazed by the location. Sunneycove is now my favorite beach in Santa Cruz. Spent 3 hours in the water W/wetsuits. The break was perfect for boarding.Then got Togo food at Aloha Grill. About one hundred yards from beach. I could keep going on about the hood. Our family & friends all said. " why don't we come over the hill more often "

The house was great. The televisions were easy to use and the beds were so comfy! When i walked i every thing looked new. The out door shower was very helpful after the beach. The owners were so kind and helpful. This is my favorite place to stay when i come to Santa Cruz. Its one-hunderd and ten precent worth what you paid for.

The house was perfect for 2 family's. It had everything you needed all there, all you need is food. The kids loved the games. Only thing that was missing was a VHS in both bedrooms. Tons of kids movies with limited options of where they could be watched. Overall was the perfect getaway! We will be back in the summer.

This was the perfect gathering place for family to rest up and enjoy each other after our daughter's wedding in the mountains of Santa Cruz. The house was perfectly located, clean, well stocked, and had a terrific game room hidden in the garage. We even got Grandpa to join in the fun at the air hockey table! Thank you Carrie for your quick responses and kind manners. You helped make a very special weekend just that much more memorable.

Three generations of my family (5 adults and 3 children) spent 10 days at this wonderful house. It is fully stocked with all the cookware, dishes and linens you will need. So close to places to eat, two small markets (one with delicious tamales,) a Dollar Store and a Sunday AM farmers market with tasty pies! Only a block to the beach which is small and uncrowded and to two other larger beaches within easy walking distance. We spent hours there; the kids enjoyed playing in the sand and surf. We visited several museums, a marine discovery center, Roaring Camp railroad, the boardwalk, and the Mystery Spot as well as the beach boardwalk amusement park all within short driving distances. Also stocked with puzzles and games to keep you busy in the evening along with boogie boards, beach toys, and a games room for the kids. Hope to return again next summer

We had 4 adults and one almost 5 year old boy in our group, and this is the 3rd year in a row we have stayed at Ansel's Getaway. This rental is very complete and you will find almost everything you need somewhere in the house from linens to sundries to beach toys. The game room (garage) is amazing with a full size shuffleboard, pool table, air hockey, and foosball. The property is walking distance to 3 beaches. Management is an email away, and prompt at responding, but we really haven't had anything go wrong during any of our visits. The location is excellent and we'll probably be back next year.

All around great time! Our group of 4 adults and 3 children arrived to a neat, comfortable home. We forgot soap and toothpaste but no worries, Dollar tree is a 2 minute walk away. Carrie the owner was prompt with returning messages and offered pointers on local beaches...the closest of which is only a five minute walk away. We spent our evenings playing shuffleboard and listening to music... the kids enjoyed the games and toys the house is stocked with. All around peace, will consider staying again in August. This house and it's location will not disappoint!

A+ vacation home! The only problem was having to leave! We had a a group of 10 and there was plenty of room, you got several great beaches all around you, the boardwalk 10 mins away, places to eat, everything all at your fingertips. The home pretty much provides all just bring your own food and some beach towels and your set. Property manager Carrie was very helpfull and made things very easy, the game room/garage is a huge plus for kids and adults. We did our research before going with this home and for the money it can't be beat don't hesitate and enjoy!
