The Pheasant Retreat and Pheasant Lodge and Pheasant Suite are situated in the grounds of Balls Farm, a 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by fields and wildlife. The accommodation has a 5-star Gold Award from the British tourist board.

We loved everything about the The Retreat. It was fantastically comfortable and had everything we could have wished for. We loved the garden area as well: this provided us with another room in effect, and with the day bed and garden furniture we were able to enjoy the sunshine and take shelter from it when it got too hot.
An added bonus is that it's a stone's throw from the Beth Chatto garden. We'd definitely stay again if wer return to this part of Essex.
In all honesty there was nothing we didn't like.

Extra touches like milk in the fridge and bathrobes to use. View from accommodation is beautiful, and it's perfect for visiting the Beth Chatto Gardens, which is what we were there for 😊
Not having the main gate entry code is inconvenient if you just want to pop to the shops

Lovely stay , very clean , lots of information on takeaways and what to do in that area . Very private even had our own garden . The bath was huge . Tea and coffee provided and fruit cake on your first night . Very relaxing would definitely stay again .

The secluded area of the retreat. Close enough to Colchester so we could do our Christmas shopping but not so close your in amongst everything. lovely walk and peaceful surrounding. The property also had the highest quality clean I think I’ve ever seen in a room. Everything was spotless and immaculate. We loved the gigantic bath ❤️
