About this house rental
This beautiful home is right on the Florida sugar sand beach, which is often uninhabited except by wading birds, ghost crabs, osprey and snook. This property features direct beach access so you can walk right onto the beach and into the Gulf of Mexico. North Captiva Island features some of the most secluded beaches in the continental United States. Many times of the year, your family may be the only ones on the beach.
North Captiva Island is only accessible by water taxi and there are no cars on the island. Transportation on the island is by golf cart which is provided with your rental, walking or bicycle. There are no paved roads, only sandy paths winding through tropical vegetation. It is truly a unique setting. Palm trees, gumbo limbo trees and beautiful flowers are everywhere.
Our favorite activities are fishing, shelling, swimming and exploring the beach and state land. There are a large number of wading birds, gopher tortoises, raccoons, brown pelicans, osprey, egrets, cormorants, bald eagles, ibis and sanderlings. There are two very nice swimming pools and hot tub maintained by our island club a short walk or golf cart drive from our house. Kayaks and bicycles are also available at no charge through the island club. Tarpon, sea trout, red fish, snook, and snapper may be caught from the shore. Shelling is a daily activity on the island. North Captiva is often described as the shelling capital of North America.
Our house, Beach's Edge, is beautifully appointed and newly updated. The kitchen includes new stainless steel appliances and gulf views. The living room includes new leather couches and flat screen TV. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor: a master bedroom with a gulf view and a guest bedroom with two bunk-beds. There is one full bath on the main floor.
Because the house is on the west shore of North Captiva we are often witness to stunning sunsets which can be observed from your bedroom or the back deck. Don't forget your camera to help capture some memories. If you are lucky you may see Dolphin playing in the surf, Tarpon showing past the first breakers and the legendary stoop of the brown pelican fishing. This has got to be one of the prettiest and most unusual places you will ever see.

This house was better than I could have imagined. This was our first visit to North Captiva and I could not have picked a better location to stay. The views are priceless. We loved everything about the island and the house and will be back for certain. The property owner and management co was easy to work with and provided us with everything we needed and then some. Thank you so much for making this a wonderful week of memories and fabulous shelling!

We loved staying here!!!! The house was perfect!!! The oven and beach area was amazing!!! Such perfect sunsets.
We couldn’t have asked for a better week!
The only thing is the downstairs is completely separate from the upstairs! BUT it worked in our favor!!! My parents stayed down there and had privacy from my husband and I with our kids!! It was so so good!!

Maybe some kind of checklist to know where to go and what to do.
Seems like the miscommunication between the owner and the property manager and all involved was liking..the house was supposed to be finished. The contractor was supposed to be out of there. And it just didn't happen.

Stunning sunset views from the deck! It just might be the perfect beach house, the water is closer than it appears in the pictures. The house has been beautifully updated since the pics in the listing. North Captiva is the perfect plus to unplug and relax. Added bonus that the beds and linens were very comfortable.

Our family had a perfect weeklong stay at Beaches Edge. It was our first time to the island and we were a little nervous at first about the remoteness of it all, but that turned out to be the best part—we were forced to disconnect and relax. We loved the beach view/access and made sure to catch the sunset every night, often from the deck. One night, a bunch of dolphins played right out front of the house just before sunset! Our kids (ages 3 & 7) spent hours playing in the sand and finding seashells. Access to the island club was a nice perk, especially on a windy day when the ocean was a little rough. The kids loved the pool and we enjoyed getting lunch at Mangoes. Grocery delivery (and the midweek fresh fish delivery) made everything very easy. All in all, it was just what our busy family needed and we can’t wait to return!

We had another wonderful stay at Beaches Edge. There were several updates done on the home since our last stay that made a world of difference! We look forward to coming back next year.

Stunning right-on-the-beachfront location. Fantastic views, uncrowded beaches, and beautifully renovated. Loved it!

Overall the property had most everything just a few things that were inconvenient like no wash cloths or throw rugs to catch some of the dirt and sand. I'm a clean nut so I spent a lot of time sweeping the floor with a terrible broom. The landscape needs attention looks messy from the hurricane. Little things but could mean big things in the long run.

Awesome location right on beach, never crowded, a short walk from the wild preserve beaches, and a four mile walk along the gulf shore to the bottom of the island. We explored the whole island, kayaks were also great for exploring the canals and seeing manitee. The house is perfect, dinette sets and chairs on upper and lower decks, along with a great swing on the lower deck; perfect view of the beach and the sunset each night. The island club pools and hot tub are also nice! Shally’s managemanet team are awesome, hospitable, and excellent communicators. Thanks so much also for the perfect grocery shopping and delivery!

Very comfortable beach house. Felt fine putting our feet up, collecting shells and our favorite activity was watching the sunset. This is a million dollar view!!
Lovely owners and management team!! Already booked again for next year!!

Another great vacation in the books
This is the only place for us. We love Beaches Edge. The views are the best on the beach. And words cannot describe how beautiful the sunsets are. The house has everything you need. Alicia is awesome to work with. Upon arrival Tortuga Properties we’re the best at taking care of us while we were there. We will definitely be back next year for another relaxing vacation.

Location is the best thing
We had a great stay on North Captiva at Beaches Edge. The location is great. One of the closest homes to the beach and sunsets are a nightly event. We had a family if 5 and it was the right size home for us. Only 1 bathroom, but we all cooperated. It is an older home and others reviews are accurate on both the positives and negatives. We stayed in June of 2022 and the two things that I would suggest to future renters as the house sits today are this: 1. The water is on a well and they do have a filter, but there still is a taste to it. If you don't like well water, then just bring in extra water of your own or plan to buy some at Mangos. 2. In the summertime, the sun shines brightly against the house in the afternoons. Even with the blinds closed, the house will get warm. Usually 80 degrees or so before cooling off late in the evening. I noticed many previous reviewers said the same. Regardless, it was a minor inconvenience for us. Overall we had a great time and if you love the beach and the location then beaches edge might be for you too.

Heaven!
We couldn’t have asked for a better spot for our stay on North Captiva! This location is just the best, shells and sunset can’t be beat here. We loved everything about it and can’t wait to go back! Seriously heavenly!

Nice view but that’s it.
The location of this place was beautiful. Stunning sunsets out your windows. The place though, for what we paid, I was expecting better quality. It was very worn…floors were very ruff, well used for sure. Chairs broken, bathroom shelfs barley hanging on the wall, cracked counter top. But mostly it was not clean. We arrived a day late because of travel and when we arrived the cleaning ladies are still cleaning. Floors still wet. The manager did his best to delay us when arriving. First he arrived 30 min late to pick us up. We had to sit and wait after we got off the boat with our groceries from a long day of travel. The house had sand on the floor, hair in the dirty tub, the pillows in the couch were filthy, peanut butter on the chairs. Even the pictures on the wall were all crooked. The huge sliding glass doors had so many finger prints. It was obvious that they did not clean well, not just being picky. I had to take time to clean but there is nothing to clean with. I had to use hot soapy water and threw everything in the washer, pillows and shower curtain, which had mold and hair on. The golf cart worked fine for us, just very worn and Rattled because it’s very rusty. My son stayed down stairs and it was very musty, think mold issue, not sure. The beds were extremely hard in the master. My husband had to sleep on the couch, pillows were flat. Overall, we were super disappointed with this place for the price we paid. The view is amazing, but that’s it. When your on vacation, you should have a clean place with a comfortable bed. Period.

Another Wonderful Stay
This was our third time staying at this property, and we absolutely loved our time here again. We are already trying to figure out if we can return next year! The view from the deck cannot be beat, I think it has to be the best one on the island, and the home is comfy with everything you need as well as fabulous views all the way across the first floor. We also really enjoyed the porch swing on the bottom deck. Additionally - it was lovely working with Alicia, as usual, to book. I also want to mention the Tortuga property managers have made some great improvements to their customer service and communication since the first time we visited and we really appreciated it! They have a text hotline now where they were able to respond within an hour or two to any of our communications, and when we needed help with a minor maintenance issue, a repair man was sent within the hour and the issue was quickly and fully addressed. Thanks again for having us, and can’t wait until we can be there again!

Just Like Home! With a Perfect View!
I've been coming to North Captiva for the past six years! This was my first time staying at Beaches Edge and it was the most comfortable home. The views are spectacular! The home is very comfortable and the kitchen is set up very well. We always plan our meals and buy groceries accordingly! The weather was not so kind this trip, but the house was the best part. I cannot say enough how comfortable it was. It was wonderful to meet Mark, as I've rented one of his homes each year, and he was there working to keep the places nice for us! So, we appreciated that very much. Needless to say we will be back next year either here or Perfect Placement as both are spectacular! We also got to go out to dinner one night at Over The Water and Chef Dave was always a pleasure and the ribs were perfect! The house was very clean and Yvonne and I enjoyed it very much despite the cooler weather! See you next year!

Prime Location!
Beaches Edge was the perfect sized home for our family of 5. The location was perfect for daily walks on the beach, playing in the Ocean and sunsets from the deck. The access to north captiva island club that is part of this rental was great on those days when the weather was too windy or cool for a beach day.
We have vacationed on Sanibel and Captiva in the past. On a whim we thought to give something different a try. This definitely fit the bill.
Once you are able to get the logistics of the trip to line up you are home free (flight, taxi to marina, ferry ride, grocery delivery etc). At first it seemed too difficult but I tried on the i fomation provided which provided all the clarity necessary for a seamless transistion to the island life for a week.
would highly recommend a winter family get a way to North Captiva and Beaches Edge.

Perfect island getaway!
My family of four (husband, two children under 6, and I) stayed here for 6 days and we could not have chosen a better place to stay on North Captiva Island! Tortuga properties did a great job making sure our groceries were ready and waiting and that we were picked up from the ferry and taken back in a timely manner. The house itself was perfect for a family of four and very child friendly. The deck was amazing for catching every sunset. I took advice of another reviewer and we packed two large citronella candles as well as citronella incense and two of the nights they came in very handy. We only needed them two of the nights, and I recommend lighting them about 20 minutes before you want to enjoy the deck! Shelling is amazing on the beach and the golf cart adventures were enough entertainment for the kiddos! We also enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub at the club one day and it was also perfect! We will be back to this perfect place on the gulf! With some extra planning, this is truly the perfect vacation spot!

Guys Fishing Trip
We throughly enjoyed staying at your property and I will most definitely be back in the future. The only issues we had were we were ate up by sand fleas sitting on the upper back deck having some more citronella candles and/or preventive if any could be done.
It did get pretty warm in the evenings in the living area but we adapted.
Again thank you for an enjoyable property with some of the most amazing sunsets and night views we had ever seen.

Best view on the island
This house was incredible!! Absolute paradise. You cannot beat this location. Waking up to the water in our “front yard” was the best!! We ate breakfast on the deck and had coffee while watching dolphins swim by. The sunsets were breath taking. We really enjoyed having a golf cart to explore the island. We will definitely come back for some more R&R.

We loved this home!
This home is exactly what you see! On the beach! Best shaded mornings for breakfast and coffee! Absolutely the best sunset views on the island!
The moment we arrived to the house and saw the view, we knew it was going to be an amazing week! The beds and furniture are comfy! It's a simple home that has everything you need! The location is key! We wanted beach, views, and comfort! This home provided it all!
My daughter loved the swing! She would read and paint from that swing all day! She'd run down for a quick dip to cool off, and she'd be right back on that swing! ❤️ My son fished all day! My husband and I just chilled, because that's all there was to do!
We drove the golf cart down every street, checking out every nook and cranny! You pass beautiful homes, and we loved looking! At the end of the day, we'd pull in Beaches Edge driveway, and it felt like home. None of us could imagine staying inland, without the view and beauty Beaches Edge offers.! We will be coming back, this home has stolen our hearts! Already looking at dates for next year! You won't be disappointed if you want to experience true beach life! ❤️

Location! Location! Location! This was by far the very best home on the island for beach views and access. As this was our first time to the island, we thought through months of research and planning that we had covered all aspects of the trip. We had not. I highly recommend if you are booking, request your welcome packet at least 2 wks before coming. That checklist is very informative and a must for the things you don’t know but think you do!The owners were absolutely wonderful, and their daughter in law, Alicia, was so very helpful and smoothed every corner we turned. The sunsets were so beautiful and the atmosphere surrounding this island was exactly what we wanted. Free to let the kids (15, 11, 9) to explore without constant supervision. 3-500 yards either direction of the beach and max 50 total ppl on the beach. So low key and relaxing. Most beaches are over crowded the middle of June and on a holiday (Fathers Day) but this one never was. Just the break we were hoping for!Stop your searching and book! It’s well worth it and you will love it. Get your welcome packet early and reserve all your transportation in advance. It’s just easier, rather than sitting and waiting for Lyft, Uber, or taxis.

The BEST place to be
We look forward to our yearly vacation at North Captiva and staying at Beaches Edge. It feels like home the minute we pull up to the house. It has everything we need and we loved the new living room furniture. The views are the best on the beach and we really enjoyed watching the sunsets while sitting on the new swing. Alicia is awesome to work with and always takes care of us. We can’t wait to go back next year.

Beautiful location, gorgeous sunsets
This house and location were beautiful and exactly as pictured. The sunsets were amazing. The house is right on the beach, and came equipped with chairs and umbrellas. We loved walking on the beach and through the park. The house is near the beach access so there were more people than I’d expected. The major downside is the management company. They are extremely slow to reply to questions or issues. Our golf cart didn’t work (we had to get out and push after just a short ride). We were told that there were no other golf carts so we were stuck with the one we had. Later in our stay someone from Tortuga promised to come put new batteries in the cart, but never showed up. They were also slow to collect trash and respond to questions. I did find the owner to be extremely helpful and responsive! I would probably give the house 5 stars but the management company made our stay less than ideal. With 17 and 13 year old kids having a working golf cart is a must!

DON'T RENT THIS HOUSE !!!!!!!!
Please Don't RENT This house !! It will ruin you trip ! No golf cart on arrival had to walk to home. House smelled like cleaner covering a bad smell. The house is 1/2 a mile to the water .No out door charcoal grill like in photo. We had no Internet or T.V for 5 days .It is advertised as a 2 bed room 1 bath in some places but in pitchers/ viedo shows a basement area with a queen bed toilet/shower so we invited our 2 son's and Daughterinlaw to come for 3 nights thinking we could stay in the basement apartment It had sewer coming up in the shower and toilet causing the bad smell their and in the upper house. They dug up the septic Thursday day 6 .We went thru Tortuga very Bad mistake! Very rude and would not answer text or get me the 2nd golf cart I rented from them for the 3 days.Owner answered all my text she fixed problems she could when she could but never realized I spent my trip texting her and Tortuga in a smelly house with no Internet/tv. description is misleading Tortuga was rude and no help .There is more but I am keeping the drama out ,it was worse than it sounds so don't make the mistake I did and rent this house !
