We very much enjoyed our stay. The house was better than expected. The property was quiet and relaxing.

This home is clearly very well cared for. Very comfortable, especially the lower level during hot summer days. The view is stunning and hard to describe unless you see it yourself. What a dreamy place!

The house is 24 miles from Marquette, so it's pretty remote, but absolutely worth the extra travel time. We spent almost all of our waking hours on the screened-in porch overlooking the lake, counting goldfinch and bluebirds and sandhill cranes and--I could go on. The house is well appointed, and we had fun imagining how many kids could sleep on the lower level. Highly recommend and hope to return.

The location and property are beautiful. We had a great time.

Been going up to Big Bay for close to 40 years. By far this is the best place we ever stayed. So peaceful and beautiful scenery. Seen eagles, turkey, and lots of wildlife. Can catch pike and perch right out the back lake. Cabin is very clean, so much nicer than the pictures. We can’t wait to go again!

Lovely McKenzie Bay in your back yard full of beautiful aquatic fowl and occasional deer. Peaceful and serene. Very comfortable accommodations and amazing family history. Host was very responsive and a pleasure to meet. My family enjoyed every minute of this wonderful place!
We will stay again for sure.

This house is equipped with everything we needed. The only thing we could of needed to help with cleaning the frying pans was a scrubbing pad! We had a hard time getting the pans clean for the next guests. The property is quiet and secluded.

Over all the property was very clean and well stocked with all items needed for a comfortable stay. If your a snowmobiler there was plenty of parking for tow vehicles and trailers. The snowmobile trail is right at the edge of the property. The gas station and mini mart is less than a mile down the trail. The lower level with its own bathroom and shower gives the lower level guests very nice private space. This house has an entrance that’s through half of a 2car garage great set up if you need to do any sled repairs!

We spent 5 days here and didn’t want to check out. It is one of the best pieces of property in the area. It has so much to offer. We enjoyed the family history all over the property. What a beautiful way to honor the folks who lived in this house years ago. We used the boats, made fires, walked the property many times, enjoyed the views from the four seasons room and it was the perfect place to relax after going on excursions in the area. If you’re on the fence, book this place, it is better than the pictures. No offense to the photographer, the property really is something special. We would love to come back someday.

We came up from Alabama to see the fall colors. Loved the camp decor of the cabin and spent many hours on the porch enjoying our view of the pond. We were fortunate to see a couple of bald eagles flying over the pond and some deer feeding at the water's edge.
If you're here to see the fall foliage, make sure to take a drive down 510. It's a well maintained gravel road not far from the cabin. It runs south about 20 miles to Hwy 41 and had some to the most spectacular colors we saw on our entire vacation.

A beautiful and well loved family camp with family memorabilia decorating the cabin, including beautiful handmade quilts. The area was beautiful, private, and secluded with easy access to stunning hiking trails.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. Great accommodations, great communication. The home is beautiful! The “sunroom” overlooking the lake is so nice. We sat and drank our coffee while watching wildlife. We will stay here again when we are back in the area.

Amazing views on this property from several inside and outside porches. We saw 15 waterfalls, pictured rocks, and amazing forest/beaches/parks. House had everything we needed.

We enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. Very clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable. Beautiful, peaceful area. We even caught a few Pike, one pretty good size and it’s still out there!

While this was farther away from Marquette than we anticipated, we enjoyed the Big Bay area and were able to get everything we needed locally. The nearby beach at Lake Superior was a favorite spot, especially for my girls (ages 10 & 14).
We enjoyed meals at the Lumberjack Tavern and the Thunder Bay Inn. Note that the Lumberjack is the only place open for an evening meeting on Mondays and Tuesdays; Wednesdays Thunder Bay is open but the Lumberjack is closed that day. Just be prepared there are not a lot of options close by to eat! The General Store had everything we needed to get by for breakfast at the cabin.
Overall, it was a successful trip for three generations to enjoy a lovely property, watch the wildlife, and make some memories!

The house was so clean & spacious and stocked with everything we needed. The grounds were peaceful & beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife while there. So many great places nearby to rockhunt, swim, and stare at Lake Superior. Close to several waterfalls and the Thomas Rock overlook was a short drive. Only took about 20-25 minutes to get to Marquette with lots of great stops on the way.

This home is fantastic. A beautiful home with alot of family history throughout with its decor. Very clean and well taken care of inside and out. Lots of yard space for our dog to enjoy. The home was stocked with everything you need in the kitchen and bathrooms and also the bedrooms. The bay is amazing and we caught lots of pike. We had the best time ever. Thanks for sharing this beautiful home.

We enjoyed our time here. The lake is shallow and weedy by the cabin, but scenic. A good place to unplug and relax.

The house and the grounds are incredible! My wife and I, our two sons, my brother, and my mother-in-law all stayed at the house and we were very comfortable. The house is amazing and the pictures don't do it justice. The view from the porch/sun room was amazing! We came up to the UP for my younger son's graduation from Northern Michigan University. Over his four years in school we visited him many times and fell in love with the UP. Staying here was the perfect way to celebrate the occasion, so much better than staying at a hotel in Marquette...no offense to the many nice hotels there :). We can't wait to come back!!!

Our kids wanted a place to snowmobile from where they didn’t have to trailer the sleds every time. This was perfect. The trail was right there. Nice bedrooms & basement for 8 people. Nice kitchen to cook in, TVs, just wonderful. We vaccumed top & basement levels, took out garbage, tried to keep it as clean as we found it. Lovely place I’m sure we will return again some time. Thank You!

We returned to the McKenzie Bay Retreat for our third year in a row. And as was experienced in our previous visits, this was wonderful! Thank you to the Wilcox family for sharing your treasure with us.

Beautiful location on small lake. We watched ducks every morning from the 3 season room. Viewing scope and binoculars were a welcome surprise. Hubby enjoyed having a recliner to relax in each evening. House has a walk out basement designed for entertainment - large TV, recliners, poker/game table, fireplace and bar. Kitchen and baths were not fancy, but very clean and functional. I enjoyed the gas stove and the abundance of hot water.
Lake Superior area is absolutely gorgeous. There is an abundance of outdoor activities that fit every skill and endurance level. House is about a 25 minute drive from the beautiful town of Marquette. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated that the hosts have made their family home available for others to enjoy.
