Mermaid is perfect for a small family or a couple's vacation. This home has been carefully planned for comfort and enjoyment! You will love spending time in this beautiful coastal home. When you step into the home you will find that the living and dining room, as well as the kitchen, are all open to each other making it perfect to watch your children play or having an easy conversation with friends. In the living room there is a sleeper sofa, a child's size table, lots of toys and games, along with a TV/DVD/VCR entertainment center and stereo clock.
There are two bedrooms in this home and both have a large bed. The main bedroom has a sliding glass door to the back patio and yard which is complete with picnic table and lawn chairs. There is a myriad of books and travel guides, along with a fabulous binder, chocked full of information about local places to visit and enjoy. There is even an array of cookbooks for your cooking delight.
This gem is centrally located being just three blocks to downtown, three blocks to the great Manzanita city park, and only three houses from the beach, allowing you to listen to the cresting waves as you relax and refresh. The Mermaid house is so loved for its tasteful simplicity and homey atmosphere that many visitors return to stay here year after year.

We loved our stay at this nice little house close to the beach and the main drag in Manzanita. The house was clean and comfortable, location perfect, and we will definitely stay here again.

The mermaid house has a lot of charm. It's very comfortable and clean. My two young children and I stayed a week and we loved walking to the beach, into town and to the park. The yard is nice to have also. It's definitely small, but we didn't mind. My two recommendations for the property are to get a new sofa and to put a screen/storm door on the front. That would help open the space up a little if you could leave the door open.

We've stayed at many Manzanita rental houses and this one is perfect for two wanting to get away. This is a good place to get away. The stove is OLD(!), baseboard heat is hard to get just right, but all else is very nice (oh, yeah, beds were soft)...not pristine and new, but very comfortable. With wifi, it had everything we wanted. Very close to beach is a huge upside.

The Mermaid House is an experience, treasured and fruitful. It is a magical, whimsical place where family can hook into peace, simplicity....all the good things that we tend to forget in our busy, rushed lives. It is close to the ocean, and the town which is great. At the same time one feels set apart and away. The only thing that is negative is the yard and the care of the outside of the house. It speaks of sadness and lack of care. It totally belies(hides)the treasure of the inside of the house. It wouldn't take much to fix. I hope we can come back to the Mermaid House! House! Thank you for a gifted week!

It was a beautiful spot just a block from the beach. Just a short few minute walk to town. The house itself was clean and ready to be lived in. The outdoor shower was "100/100 would shower here again". We would have liked to have some newer things, like softer towels, nightstands on each side of the bed, better access to power outlets, and in general just some newer stuff. But overall it was wonderful. Hard to beat the location!

My wife and I stayed here with my 8 year old daughter. The location doesn't get better between the immediate beach access to a short walk to downtown shops and restaurants. Just the right size for a small family and the beds were really comfortable. It seems rather sparse but it really has everything you need for a relaxing vacation. We loved the outdoor shower for washing off after the beach. Would love to stay here again.

Wonderful stay! All the basics covered, and right by the beach. Definitely an older house with character, but clean and functional and updated touches are very nice. We had three adults and one toddler in our party -- a bit squished but with a deck outside and so much within walking distance, it worked.

We have rental properties in Manzanita, but needed over flow for a large family event. As an owner, I understand the challenges of creating a warm environment with the practicalities necessary for the rental market. This home is charming, has personal touches including historical informational about the area, a wonderful beachy feeling including a cool outdoor shower, wood paneling, new mattresses and towels, but above all, a perfect location. The cleaning team commented that it was especially easy to clean. I had to drag my husband away! We loved everything.

We like this property and have stayed here before, two years ago, and would like to stay here again but were a little disappointed that there were some problems, not very nice towels and only two sets for a family of three, sheets were worn and stained in one of the rooms and only one of the windows would open. It was stuffy in there without the ability to open those windows. The mechanisms for raising them were rusted out. The BBQ was difficult to get much heat as well. At the rate rented I would expect not to have those problems. Hopefully this will all he addressed, or the rent lowered... All of that said. It is a cute little cottage in a perfect location. The kitchen was well stocked with the necessaries and well set up for enjoying a family meal.

100 steps from beautiful beach—loved watching windsurfers and sailboarders. A short walk to downtown restaurants and grocery store (which makes great sandwiches and offers hot food selections at Deli.). Mom and 3 college students used this cottage as a base for hiking and beachcombimg adventures. Clean and comfortable with easy check-in. Small backyard deck off master bedroom was unexpected bonus. I recommend this cottage without reservation.

The place was a perfect size for our little family. The kitchen was a little rustic let’s just say, but the rest of the house was in good working order. The back yard looked like it had a new deck put in and it was pretty nice to sit on to chill out in the sun. The location was great; just a couple blocks from the main drag which is convenient if you need to grab a burrito from the Mexican restaurant or some eggs from the mini mart. The beach access was one of the highlights for me. Just a quick walk to the beach.

It was as advertised and much better. First impressions were surpassed until we locked the door on the last day. Such a great little 50's era stove...how many meal stories might it share if it could. The whole is a story ... relax on the ample couch adorned with attractive and comfortable pillows. Plenty of space for 4, a great space if just two. Everything from kitchen, bedroom, and livibg space was outstandibg. Access and view of beach and Pacific Ocean...stellar! Take the city pace edge off...disappear into relaxation at Mermaid house. Our stay in Manzanita was perfect. The location of the Mermaid House is an easy walk to the main street with grocery, restaurants, and shopping. You can stand in the front yard and see and hear the ocean. The home has all the basic amenities for cooking, and the old time frigidaire oven and stove works well and was fun to cook on.

We had a wonderful time in the Mermaid house. The location was perfect. A block to the beach and a couple of blocks to the downtown area. We have 2 year old twins and the house worked out perfectly for them. The house is simply decorated, not too fancy but also not junky. Easy to toddler-proof. An anti slip mat for in the tub would be a nice addition as well as a floor mat for getting out of the shower.

First off, my daughter was sold when she found out the name of the house, and was even more excited when we arrived and she was able to go on a treasure hunt for all the mermaid paraphernalia inside. It was so pleasant walking it to this home - extremely clean, well kept & decorated, inviting. We felt comfortable soon upon arrival, such a great way to start our stay.Location, location, location! The half block walk to the short beach trail was ideal for my kids (ages 5 & 2), it made it so easy to take multiple trips to the beach each day. We were easily able to walk in to town & enjoyed a couple trips to the park as well.We were about halfway in to our stay when my daughter asked if this could become an annual tradition. I foresee us returning to the mermaid house again. Thank you so much for sharing your home!

I've visited Manzanita a few times and stayed in a few places, but this was the best location – just a few blocks' walk to Laneda Ave., and literally half a block to a path that goes to the beach. The cottage isn't large but it's comfortable and pleasant. I'd be happy to return.

A basic, comfortable spot in a great location--easy, short walk to beach & village main street. The one bathroom is cramped, but adequate. Back yard isn't sheltered from street or neighbors next & catches the wind, but there's a table & chairs. Altogether, rather expensive for what it is, but we were glad to be staying in our favorite N. Coast town.
