About this house rental
George's River House(a legal, licensed nightly rental with a current Okanogan County health permit as required by law)is, as much, a house as a work of industrial art.
The house is built around a large concrete water-way, which was originally part of the Winthrop water supply. That bunker is now the floor of an upper bedroom, as well as the walls of the living room and a second bedroom on the main floor. It is a hand-built, and handmade riverfront pleasure.
Located about 1/3 mile downstream of downtown Winthrop and its iconic old west boardwalk.... it is close, yet private. This is a "one of a kind experience" not to be passed over.
The bedrooms have queen beds, with additional sleeping on a twin/full bunk bed. The main-floor master has it's own bath, and outside entrance overlooking the river. Full kitchen, internet, unique wood stove, heated floors, patio with picnic table and small propane grill.

IMPORTANT WINTER INFORMATION :
**Should you travel to the Methow during the winter months it is important to understand that you must be prepared for winter driving(keep chains, shovel...in the car) and all the inconveniences it causes you and the community you are visiting. The weather can be extreme with large snowfalls, unexpected technical issues, frozen pipes, impassable roads/driveways). If it snows while here you will have to wait for plow service just like every other person in the valley. There are a limited number of plow companies and Methow Reservations nor the owners of the house are in control of the plow company schedules. They have many different contracts and many miles of roads, driveways...to plow. If a plow person or a snow shoveler shows up to clear any area around the house, please do not argue with them or turn them away. Move your vehicles if asked. Your cooperation and patience are required especially after any significant snow accumulation. Should you get stuck you can call Classic Towing in Twisp, WA
**Propane Fireplace--should there be tech issues or the propane fireplace upon your arrival please send a message through Airbnb. Methow Reservations and the owner will try to troubleshoot and remedy the problem. If the problem requires a part or there is an issue with the propane company that may take longer that your stay, NO REFUNDS will be given.

The house was lovely and unique, a great fit to enjoy the town of Winthrop and the surrounding outdoor pursuits. The house was well stocked for our group of 6. We would definitely stay there again!

Perfect home to stay at in the area. Close to everything but as soon as you step down the hill you are a million miles away. Thank you

Upon arrival you're confused. Did I just rent somebody's ranch outbuildings?? But walk down the gravel path and what a great surprise. Teetering above the river is a spacious, uniquely appointed in a good way, comfortable with all the amenities place to run away from it all. And it has history too--the old original power house for the town of Methow. Cool place. Private, quiet, and outdoor spaces to relax by the river with a fun beverage. George was very quick to respond to our questions too. We'd go back. Thanks for the wonderful stay.

The cabin was unique and rustic. We enjoyed the local brewery and 2 days of heli-boarding at N. Cascade heli. Comfortable beds and nice size.

We were appreciative of the comfortable and artistic space that allowed the sound of the river below into our bedrooms . We were greeted by three deer that gently walked through this property down to the lower picnic area. The outdoor space made us feel secluded and yet we loved that we could walk to the town of Winthrop. Thank you for allowing us the stay

Walked through the gate and said "WOW." Pictures dont do it justice. Unique, comfortable, cozy, bright and airy with beautiful view of the river.plenty of outside seating areas. Beds were extremely comfy. Highly recommend Highway 20 Pizza just outside house. Spent Saturday morning at Twisp farmers market and then had fabulous breakfast at Cinnamon Twisp. Spent rest of the day shopping in Winthrop. Lots of cute stores and restaurants. Wanted to go across the street from house to barn cinema but just ran out of time. It was a PERFECT trip. We will be back and would love to stay in your house again. Thank you

Unique and very cool yet cozy space. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. And the location can’t be beat- within a minute you can be standing alongside the river or ordering pizza (with gf options!). Even though this place is right next to a busy pizza spot and other cabins, the entire weekend was quiet and felt secluded. Definitely recommend.

Close to town and private. As others have mentioned, you are not sure when you first park. But the instructions are accurate and you quickly leave the parking lot behind to a quiet and comfortable setting. Upon arrival The key holder was jammed - it happens. The help was reasonably quick and the rest of the stay was great.

Loved everything about this place!!! The setting is great, right at the river and very quiet! The house has history and is very eclectic while being so warm and very comfortable! Everthing you need! Master bedroom be is really comfortable and there is a small deck with table right over the river, perfect for happy hour!!!!

Very comfortable, tucked down by the river. Absolutely no road noise-only the sound of the Methow rushing below. Uncertain about the food in the kitchen cabinets- does someone live there when the house is not rented? Toaster oven and regular oven could use a cleaning but otherwise all was good. We definitely would book the property again.

From the unique architecture and design, the comfortable mattresses, quiet location, kind and genuine hosts, and the river right out back, staying at George’s place was simply perfect. George’s place has the perfect location ride in the Methow River. It was a very relaxing stay and the house was fully stocked. Our wives even took up George’s offer to enjoy the fresh produce from his garden. His house is located very close to downtown Winthrop, and within walking distance to the local grocery store. You definitely need to eat at East 20 Pizza - it’s the best pizza and is located just outside your front door. We definitely will be back in the future.

We had a great time here, spent three nights. The place is well stocked, and we enjoyed making meals here and eating on the picnic table just outside. Don’t miss the second picnic table, down a little trail toward the river. Saw two deer just outside our window one afternoon. Great location, short trip into downtown Winthrop and good base for short trips to the many lakes, hikes, etc., in the area. We met George one day. He left us with fruits and vegetables grown himself just outside the house.
