Can't beat this location and view! The house was well-stocked, clean, quiet and beautifully landscaped, offering varying outside seating options. Bonus is having one of Maine's best lobster shacks, McLoons, 1 mile away on Spruce Head.

Stay in October was just beautiful. Listing is accurate with everything you need in a kitchen as far as pot, dishes, and tons of utensils and pans. Quite and cozy, plus million dollar views. Communication with property owners was the best we’ve ever had. Owner even reached out to us to make sure everything was okay and answer any questions we had. Nice touch! Should have booked two weeks. Tons of sights in the area, museums and shopping in quaint towns. AND did I mention the lobsters??!!

The yard at this house can’t be beat, especially if you have little ones that need to run and play! It’s huge, and the view is spectacular. Notice there is no washing machine in the listing. Also, all of the beds are incredibly soft, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. For someone with back issues, it may be a problem. The house was clean, and everything that we needed was there. Gene was responsive and helpful, and the lobster shack down the street was the best we’ve ever had in all of our trips to Maine!

Every year my wife and I do a weeklong end of summer rental with our moms. Thanks to the Goodman, this was our best trip yet! We are so grateful to have found this special home. We trusted the positive reviews when booking, however reality exceeded even our highest of expectations. This property is that quintessential Maine lobster village experience we had hoped for - it felt at times as if we were in a Norman Rockwell painting!
The Goodman’s home itself was just amazing! The huge front yard overlooks a rocky beach with a million dollar view of the evening’s sunset and were we enjoyed nights of star gazing. The interior was exceptionally clean with modern amenities, strong internet, and with all the comforts of home. It just felt authentic, like staying at a friends home that they actually use - and not repurposed as a rental.
On the property sits two beautiful apple trees where we harvested and baked a pie. My mother in law is an avid herbalist and spent any of hours wondering the property’s wild varieties of plants and herbs. There were days where we did not have a need to leave the property because there was just so much to do within its boundaries. This is easily one of the most thoughtfully landscaped homes I have rented, it gives you a sense of seclusion and being back in touch with nature.
We are so grateful to have come across this special home and the memories it has afforded us to create with our moms. We will absolutely be back next year - and many years to come!
Thank you Gene for affording us with this opportunity.

While there were sites and activities nearby, nothing could compare with the absolutely stunning views at this property. We enjoyed the beauty, quiet, both sunrises and sunsets, and a million stars at night. The house was well-appointed and cozy. The beds were comfortable.

This is our second time staying and we love it. The cool breeze at night, the wonderful views, and the gorgeous days spent in the yard just enjoying the weather and family.

Location was awesome. Property is just perfect.
Overall, the property is as described, comfortable clean, very well supplied with all you need. Host provides you with great info on area.
Our only comment would be if you plan your trip, make sure the area is open. We found going before Memorial Day that all stores and restaurants were not open every day. We will certainly look at going back AFTER Memorial Day

Fantastic views of ocean! Just what we wanted!
Plenty of room for two. Interesting walking and bicycling direct from the property. Nesting ospreys nearby, as well as eagles, cormorants, loons, sea gulls, and ducks, etc. plus numerous song birds on the property.
The only drawback was that we had to clean the inside of the refrigerator before we could put our food in it.

Lovely view on busy road
Set right on the water with a stunning ocean view, the house was very clean and the downstairs comfortable. However, the busy road into the island just a few feet from the house and at the beginning of a small bridge made it less than ideal while sitting outside The fact that the bedrooms were upstairs and bathroom downstairs was not mentioned. There was no photo indicating there were stairs. This made it less than ideal for me. Although I did not use the third bedroom and photos were not included, it was above the attached garage, making it a long trek to the one bathroom. Gene was very communicative and answered my questions in a timely manner.

Peaceful Summer Cottage
We enjoyed every minute of our stay. My kids loved bouldering and beach combing, and even mucking through low tide to the sand bar "island" right off shore. I enjoyed kayaking, and my husband adored McLoon's lobster shack, just up the road. The best part of all was the location of the property. We spent hours in the yard or living room watching the changing tides and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It was very hard to leave!
The house is very well stocked and organized. The kitchen had every tool we needed. The bedrooms were confortable and we loved the outdoor shower too. Be aware that the third bedroom is over the garage. The garage is attached to the house, so it's basically a separate wing of the house (only bathroom is in the main house). If I had young kids, I would probably not want them to stay in the third, bunk room, just because it's separate from everyone else. But my teens and youngest (8) stayed there and were happy to have their own space to spread out.
Communication with the hosts was excellent. We really couldn't have asked for a better stay. Hopefully we can return sometime soon!

Lovely Summer Cottage
The description is accurate, the cottage well supplied and the owner was very helpful! The views/location can’t be beat and the local wildlife was a joy to observe. This was a perfect getaway for our family and a great location, near so many sights and great food.

Home sweet home
The owner is very nice/friendly and helpful. The property is lovely. Between the adorable homie house, the gorgeous property, the endless view of the ocean and the lovely area it was exactly what I needed for my week off. With exception of picking up a few supplies, I honestly didnt feel a reason to leave it much. Plenty of sunshine, beautiful cooling breeze, grab my towel, chair, a drink and relax on the sandy area below the property. Definitely want to go back..

Great ocean views!
This property had the perfect location for us. It is literally right on the water and we could launch our kayak from the beach in front of the property. The views were spectacular, house is private and quiet. Very comfortable furnishings. We spent the whole time outside enjoying the view or when it got chilly enjoying the view from the living room. We plan on returning!

Beautiful Maine coastal home
The home was extremely clean. The kitchen the best stocked of any home we have rented and the view from the property simply amazing. Kayaking in the bay was great. Gene is very easy to work with and very responsive to questions. A great place to stay and enjoy the Maine coast.

The Perfect Escape
This was the perfect getaway for an extended period of time. We stayed for 3 weeks and truly felt at peace the whole time. So many cute wild critters roaming around! The home is absolutely lovely and full of all the things someone might need while staying away. Rented the kayaks from the owners too and was so nice to go launch right off the property after work. We took advantage of being so close to McLoons too and spent a lot of time exploring the nearby towns and cities. Contacting Gene whenever we had questions was super easy and he and his wife were so lovely in giving the best recommendations of what to do, see and eat. Highly recommend this listing and without a doubt will be coming back!

Spruce Head
The dishwasher did not work, the yard was full of dog waste and the third bedroom above the garage had no heat...... the coffee pot was extremely dirty and the shower could use an upgrade. No hot water pressure in the kitchen sink.

Perfect Location
The location of the house was stunning. 180 degree views. As a landscape painter, I never had to leave the property for beautiful scenes to paint. The owner was super responsive to our needs. Plan to return!

Comfortable home with great ocean views and beautiful yard.
Comfortable home with great ocean views and a beautiful yard right on the water. Home was clean and well equipped. Excellent access for kayaking around the bay with several nice islands to explore. Although in a quiet location it is a short drive to Rockland and Camden as well as a few lighthouses and several great beaches. Quiet when you want and close to plenty to do when you want to get out.

Wonderful vacation at the Goodman House
Susan and Gene Goodman provided many personal touches and answered every question we had before our arrival. Gene also provided us with maps and information on available attractions, beaches, restaurants..Etc.
With a gorgeous view of Penobscot Bay at our fingertips this waterfront cottage offered a totally relaxing vacation. The cottage was comfortable, clean and had every amenity you could ask for. We enjoyed our two week stay immensely and would recommend their place to anyone.
Sincerely,
Jay and Cynthia Ryan

Not what we expected as far as cleanliness and interior
Carpets were dirty, linens didn’t smell clean, couch and chair were suspect on when cleaned. Interior was old and well used. Occasionally smelled heating fuel in house. Leaning back on outside plastic chair the back snapped..I ended up on ground with scraps on my back from jagged edges of chair. Not seriously hurt. Tide was low most of the time (guess my bad not checking on tide schedule). I expected more than what I got. Would not stay there again.

Perfect waterside getaway in Spruce Head
We flat out love Spruce Head and have rented several different houses there over the past few years. The Goodman house is a mere 50' from the water's edge and you can relax in the living room-dining area and watch the tide come in and out with a dozen or so lobster boats in the distance.
The main house has two similar bedrooms upstairs with the aforesaid LR-DR and a very nice kitchen and bathroom below. Those that make trip(s) to the bathroom nightly should note that this involves carpeted stairs. Not a problem but worth noting for older renters.
The garage has a 4-bed "dorm room" but no bathroom and Jean and I didn't need it so we can't comment on it other than to say it would accommodate 4 children well, assuming the lack of a bathroom wasn't an issue.
For those who know Spruce Head well, this house is located just past the Lobster Lane Bookstore and across from the lobster pound and before the causeway bridge to the main part of Spruce Head Island. It is a short drive to McLoon's Lobster restaurant...one of our favorite "lobster-in-the-rough" dining spots.
The grounds are nicely landscaped with native flowering plants but really...what more do you need than the beautiful views of Maine waterfront at its finest.

We had a great time visiting the area and enjoying all the great sea food, and lobster rolls.

Picturesque
This is a sweet little cottage, so well built and cozy. Two bedrooms in the main house and a bunk room out in the garage. The property is clean and well equipped. The owner was quick to respond to our questions and the caretakers were by to mow and walk there dog, but not bothersome at all. We walked across the street near the lobster shack to watch the sunrise. Absolutely beautiful!!

A beautiful cottage with wonderful ocean view
The house is very clean and lovingly decorated. The location is great, being close to several towns, Thomaston, Camden, Rockland, etc. We loved the ocean view and the rocky beach access right from the lawn. It feels very private with only the nature around you. I loves how bright the kitchen was and that it had a gas stove! I loved the reclaimed wood doors with several layers of paints shown through. It is just beautifully decorated inside and outside with a beautiful garden.
I already recommended the cottage to others and will likely to rent it again in the future. Here are potential negatives for some people that should help decide whether this lovely cottage is for you:
- cell phone reception for AT&T wasn't great where my text to a friend down the street took many hours (but the cottage has a land line phone)
- wifi worked well early in the morning but was very slow during the day
- there is just basic cable so don't expect to watch Red Sox on NESN
- very nicely maintained and clean, but don't expect modern bath
- obviously no AC being on the coast of Maine and it can get humid at times
- bring bug sprays for mosquitoes
I loved staying at the cottage and it reminded me of those cottages on the coast of Ireland.
