The staff were polite and able to speak some English. The hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable. The meals were delicious and beautifully served. The onsen was clean and comfortable.
If you want to relax, it is the place to go- nothing to dislike.

Very nice and traditional Japanese hotel on Lake Suwa. The meals were delicious and they were able to accommodate severe allergies. The Onsen is very relaxing and great addition to a trip to Japan. The shuttle from the train station is very easy.
The property's facilities are nice but feel a bit old and could use some touch-ups here and there. While the staff was very friendly, the majority would only address my boyfriend and not me. The food was good but could be difficult for picky eaters, and while they were accommodating of allergies, it is good to double-check and confirm before eating.

Decoration in the room is beautifully mixed between modern and traditional. It includes both toilet and bathroom. Lake Suwa view from the room is amazing. Dinner and Breakfast are neat and good quality. Staffs here took care of us with above average service level of Japanese Onsen hotel.
Decoration of public bath is a bit weird, it seems like renovated from something else.

the stuff was wonderfully accommodating. we first got a room without a shower (???!!!), but they politely apologized and changed to a larger room with shower.
smelly and musty tatami floor, could not sleep one minute!

everything! They are incredibly nice, speak English very well, and my mum is a vegetarian and the chef there are able to prepare it for her. She was totally in love it! If I have the chance, I'll definitely going to visit this place again!
I would prefer an open air bath onsen

This is a very decent mid-ranged ryokan that is value for money considering the facilities and the price point. Our room was large and could comfortably accommodate 5 of us in the same room, except the 5th bed was quite awkwardly placed in the room. I also liked that they gave us both yukata and pyjamas to wear in the room. Our room came with a beautiful private bath. I also liked the public bath which was large and spacious and it never felt like it got too crowded. Food was decent and well-presented. I liked that they provided an English menu showing potential food allergies for each item on the menu (but then this was only for the first day). I also liked the private dining rooms we had during mealtimes which made us feel exclusive. The hospitality of the staff was overwhelming.
When we first checked in, the hotel staff asked if we were willing to take part in a survey. We agreed thinking to be helpful but what we didn't expect was that the survey had so many questions e.g. where were we before Lake Suwa, where do we intend to go after Lake Suwa, what drew us to visit Lake Suwa etc etc. which we found rather intrusive and tiresome after a while. One or two questions is fine but it felt like we were asked 10 questions in total.
Also we didn't realise that the hotel had free shuttle service to Kamisuwa station and to the nearby shrines. We only realised this after we checked out and noticed the shuttle bus outside the hotel, then enquired at the front desk and that was when we learnt about the free shuttle service. It would have been nice if the hotel staff had informed us of this service when we first checked in, instead of bombarding us with the long survey...

Upscale, luxurious modern hotel-ryokan right next to Lake Suwa with large common onsen, very good Japanese cuisine, highly attentive staff, very health conscious
Room was very well appointed Japanese style room with 3/4 tatami floor & 1/4 std room - but no shower and limited space to move around once 2 futon are laid out. Stated as 3-person but that's impossible to imagine.

The food was delicious, staff was incredibly helpful and kind! They even had a little yukata for our 1 year old. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for him.
By the description on booking.com we thought we were going to have a private onsen in our room, but we did not which was disappointing especially since we were limited in what we could do at night once we put our kiddo to sleep.

Great room with lake view
Superb meals (breakfast and dinner)
Onsen (m and f)
Free shuttle to /from station
Free tour of four shrines included
Onsen lake view not as clear as would have liked, but this is not really a dislike.
Possible use of western style beds could be an option, although futon were extremely comfortable and were made up for us by the staff.

Nagano prefecture is probably my favorite place in Japan. On this trip we visited Kamisuwa Onsen in Lake Suwa and it did not disappoint.
+ Hotel shuttle picked us up from JR Kami-Suwa Station, just contact them beforehand
+ Super friendly and helpful staff
+ Awesome lake view!
+ Japanese suite room very large
+ Excellent dinner and breakfast
+ In-room onsen
Some of the rooms are showing it's age and would do well with a fresh coat of paint and new windows. Comparing to other similarly priced onsen we have stayed in the past, this beautiful place can potentially be improved.
