This apartment was perfect for our 8th annual mother-daughter weekend. The location was spot-on for the eating, shopping and walking we wanted to do. Bedrooms were comfortable and beds each had reading lamps--a must. Our Friday night restaurant choice, Bao Bao, is right across the street, and you can't do better than that.
Minor issues regarding the internet password were instantly resolved with the host who was super responsive.
Last but not least, the roof-top deck was wonderful--for morning coffee, for afternoon cocktails, for relaxation. Although it is true as other reviewers have said that there are two steep staircases to get to the unit, that is a small price to pay for what you get--being outside in a lovely private setting with views of the city. Kind of like being in an urban, luxurious tree house.

This place was excellent. As others have noted, the steps to get up to the top floor are especially steep and narrow. But it’s 1,000 percent worth it! You feel like you’re perched on top of Portland in a cozy, well-appointed nest. The accommodations were so great that it was hard to break away and go explore the city, which is right outside the door! We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great location and lovely roof top deck. Needed and extra check in code and property manager got back right away. Perfect for our days in Portland!

Not great
I was traveling with my daughter and infant granddaughter. About a month out, when I realized there was no elevator and 2 flights of narrow stairs, and we had 3 pieces of luggage and a stroller, I wanted to cancel our reservation but there is a NO REFUND POLICY on this unit. I asked the owner if we could get in before the late afternoon check-in since we landed at the airport at 11:00 a.m. and we had a baby with us. She said 2 p.m. at the earliest even though no one had rented the unit the day before, which means she could have had the unit ready for us first thing that day but just didn't want to accommodate us. Therefore, we were forced (remember the no refund policy!) to rent the unit the day before we arrived in Portland so we could go straight to the unit. When we opened the front door we were looking at a dresser and 6 bags of laundry in the tiny foyer. After getting the 3 suitcases up the first flight of stairs, we could only muster the energy to get one more suitcase up the second set of very narrow, steep stairs. So we left the other two suitcases on the 2nd floor landing. Left the stroller on the first floor next to the bags of laundry. The unit was clean, but a full length mirror had fallen (no one's fault) and shattered and there was no broom in the unit. There was a nice outdoor patio that would have been nice to use in the evening, but all 3 nights we were there, the unit below us that was to our immediate right and just about 10 feet below, had a loud gathering and music and singing (yes, singing) so we couldn't even hear each other talking so we retreated indoors. We could still hear the party from inside but at least we could hear each other. I can't blame anyone for that--its their right to do that but kinda ruined our chance to use the patio. It may be because of the pandemic but at least 50% of the shops and restaurants in this neighborhood were closed. You can walk to the shops and restaurants on the waterfront easy enough (10 to 15 minute walk) but you definitely want to leave this neighborhood to eat and drink.
If you are someone who likes the bedroom dark when you sleep, bring an eye mask. Both bedrooms have transparent bamboo-type shades, and the street lights shine thru at night.
I would suggest to anyone thinking about this unit to think twice if you have: a suitcase, or a child, or a stroller, or a bad knee, or 2 bad knees!

Lovely, cosy and very clean apartment that's a walk to downtown
This property is very comfortable, cosy and spotlessly clean and tidy. The roof terrace is an awesome addition which gives a little extra space to spread out if there are 4 of you (we are a couple with 14 year-old son so space wasn't an issue, but 2 couples would probably appreciate the extra space).
We had a couple of (very minor) issues during our stay and the host, Kathy, was amazingly responsive and communication was great. She was very pro-active and keen to ensure that we had a great stay.
The apartment has an excellent AC unit in the main room which was very efficient, but the window unit in the main bedroom was loud and not very effective. However, for 2 nights during our stay we experienced record 100f+ temps which barely dropped overnight, and were comfortable with all the internal doors open allowing the main AC unit to cool the space with a fan in the main bedroom helping airflow. During normal Maine weather, it shouldn't be a concern at all.
One other comment is that the 2 flights of stairs to the apartment are steep and narrow and would be challenging for seniors or for those with young kids. Again, not a concern for most people.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this property and it's excellent owner, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Great place and good location.
My wife and I travel to Portland once or twice a year. Of course, 2020 threw a curveball at us like everyone else. We were finally able to get ourselves up there and this was a nice little spot to relax. The unit was comfortable and the outside deck was perfect for sitting back and taking in the fresh air. Short (<0.5 mile) walks got to most of the restaurants and sites. Highly recommended!

The location was excellent and it was so much fun walking around the neighborhood and there are great restaurants within walking distance. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Home away from home
This was the perfect location for us, a family of four, while visiting Portland for a work conference/vacation. Great location and cozy space.

Wonderful location, very clean, and very accomodating
Kathy was VERY responsive to questions and a couple of non-critical items. The apartment is very clean and well kept. It has all the critical items required for a weekend stay. The stairs are a bit narrow and steep, going up to the third floor (definitely not for the weak of heart or those with physical issues). The unloading process was fairly easy, as there was 15 minute parking available across the street, then circle the block to the Holiday Inn. This place was definitely walkable to the Old Port and the parking at Holiday Inn was very convenient - we didn't move the car all weekend. Unfortunately, it rained most of the weekend so we weren't able to use the deck. We would definitely go back again and/or look for other properties that Kathy manages! Thank you Kathy!

Clean, well kept pleasant stay
Great location and really enjoyed the amenities. Sharing the bathroom was tough because it's a jack and Jill and you can hear everything but you can't beat the price.

Amazing!
The owner, Kathryn was very accommodating. The property was well kept and she made us feel very welcome. It's a great spot to stay and explore Portland! Super cozy for staying in and cooking the local fare too!

Nice apartment, good location
The location is nice and some of the little things were a nice surprise. It's well-stocked for dishes, glasses, mugs, utensils, etc. It has a full-size refrigerator/freezer, a nice range and oven, and a microwave. A Keurig made coffee time convenient. The shower is excellent. Washer and dryer are tiny but a great convenience. The patio/deck provides even more space for hanging out.
The walk up to this third-floor unit is definitely awkward when carrying luggage; the steps are steep and narrow.
The bedrooms are very sparsely furnished. I prefer a hard mattress so I liked the bed I was in, but if you don't like a very firm mattress consider bringing a memory foam topper with you.
Security was fine - integrated electronic locks with key codes on both the outside door and the door to the unit.
The bathroom is shared between two bedrooms. We had to remember to latch/unlatch the door to the other bedroom when using it. Not a big deal - just something to keep in mind.
Noise - from the downstairs guests, from early-morning traffic, from seagulls, and from late-night revelers in the neighborhood - was more than expected. The old building was definitely not built with sound-dampening in mind.
Reliable parking is two blocks away, in a parking garage on the far side of the Holiday Inn. That parking costs $12/day. The closest supermarkets (Whole Foods and Hannaford) are nearly a mile away, with no other options (e.g. convenience stores, bodegas) to speak of nearby.
Kathryn was very helpful with suggestions for dining and other activities, and she was super responsive by email and text.
Overall - a cute and slightly quirky rental with Old Port charm and some modern updates. Very convenient to restaurants, museums, coffee shops.

Nice apartment, excellent location
I agree with all of the affirmative recent reviews. The location was great for my wife, son and me as we were visiting our other son who lives 4 blocks away. The owner was communicative and her hospitality was excellent. The beds and rooms were comfortable and clean. Very good price to value. Last time in Portland I stayed at the Westin, I enjoyed this much better. It is in the city, so expect street noise. We were able to find on street parking each evening near the orthodox church on the next block, Pleasant Street. We will definitely stay here again.

Charming apartment with difficult stairs
This apartment was in exactly the same clean and neat condition that the photos show. It was comfortable and cozy. We had a little trouble with the TV, but the owner came over to fix it for us while we were out and about. The bedrooms were nice and the beds were very comfortable, but the bedroom closer to the stairs could use a floor lamp. The small lamp by the bed didn't provide enough light in the evening. The bathroom had clearly been renovated -- very nice shower, but could definitely use more counter space by the sink.
The neighborhood was very cute and eclectic, but there was quite a bit of street noise. If you're a light sleeper, this wouldn't be a good place for you. There were several really quality restaurants within a 4-block walking radius, which was very nice. We were able to find a spot to park on the street within a few blocks each night.
The apartment is on the third floor, which wouldn't be a big deal except that the stairs are VERY narrow and steep. It was difficult to get luggage up, and even harder to get it down.
The owner was very responsive and easy to deal with throughout the process of reservation all the way through the end of our stay. Portland and the coast of Maine was a great place to visit.

What a perfect place!
This apartment has so much charm and has been tastefully and newly decorated, keeping in mind the historical neighborhood. It was impeccably clean, well-maintained and had just the right amount of amenities in the kitchen and bath. Even though it's a good size for 2 couples or a girl's weekend or a small family with the 2 queen beds, my husband and I decided on this one just for ourselves. It was the perfect size! We were here for 4 nights and there is so much you can do and see within walking distance of this apartment. The outside deck serves as the premier part of this comfy place for happy hour, coffee in the morning or just taking a break and reading a good book outside. Kathryn was so available to us at all times, giving us some good ideas on places to eat nearby (if you are a "foodie", Kathryn is too and has some GREAT dining suggestions, almost all within walking distance!!) and also nearby grocery stores. Thank you so much for your hospitality! We will be sure to let our family and friends know of this little gem!

Beautiful!
Lovely place, well decorated and comfy. Within walking distance of great restaurants and shops around wharf in Portland. Perfect little porch for relaxing.
No assigned parking so finding close spot not always easy. There's a pay lot a block or so away beside Holiday Inn. $12/day.

Nice apartment in downtown Portland
Apartment was very clean, host was gracious. AC in the main room was a godsend, we were there for the hottest weekend of the year. Patio is nice to sit out and enjoy. 3rd floor walkup.
