About this house rental
Enjoying delightful views over fields and woodland, and with its own large garden and within walking distance of a children’s playground, football pitch, tennis court, cricket net, two pubs and numerous public footpaths and bridleways, this house is an ideal place to relax. In a quiet village surrounded by open countryside in the South Downs National Park, this detached house is a perfect holiday home for an extended family (or two families holidaying together).
This family home has recently been completely renovated and decorated to a high standard. It has wifi throughout the house. The ground floor is mostly laid with stone slabs, cool under foot in the summer and cosy with underfloor heating in the winter, while the two livings rooms have wooden floors, also with underfloor heating. The large kitchen-diner has bi-fold doors and windows looking out over the garden. The dining table can comfortably sit 12 people. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric range, induction hob, combi microwave oven, warming drawer, two dishwashers and an American style fridge-freezer plus a large overflow fridge.
The dining area opens onto the larger living room through sliding doors allowing both privacy or connection to the kitchen as you desire. The living room has four large sofas and two armchairs, a wood-burning stove, a smart TV with Ethernet connection and bi-fold doors onto the garden. The other living room has a corner sofa, a games table for 6, armchair, smart TV with Ethernet connection and DVD player and a piano. It also opens onto the garden through sliding doors.
Also downstairs is a shower room (perfect for off-road cyclists or kids straight back from the beach); a utility room with washing machine and dryer and plenty of space for coats and wellies; and a downstairs cloakroom.
Upstairs, there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom is large and has an en-suite bathroom with a bath/shower and a smart TV. There is another double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and a further small double bedroom. The large twin room has two single beds which can be zipped together to form a super-king sized bed. The fifth bedroom has two bunk beds and a single bed. The family bathroom has a bath/shower. All the bedrooms look out over the garden and fields beyond apart from the small double room. There is also a travel cot available should you request one.
The south-facing terrace along the back of the house has plenty of comfortable garden furniture to allow you to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and lazy BBQs on a summer’s day. For those wanting more activity, there is a ping-pong table next to the house and a trampoline at the far end of the garden. The large lawn just beyond the terrace is perfect for badminton, croquet or to kick a football around.
There is off-street parking for several cars.
There is much to see and do in this scenic area of Sussex. The property has access to an extensive network of footpaths and cycle routes in this area of the South Downs National Park which is rich in animals, birds and plant life.
The secluded village of West Marden has a pub (2 minutes’ walk away) which serves good pub food and has recently reopened under new owners The nearby village of Compton (around 1 mile or twenty minutes’ walk along a footpath) has another good pub, a village shop and tea room, a children’s playground, and a village recreation ground with a tennis court (guest booking fees apply – currently £5 per hour) football pitch and cricket ground with cricket net. For golfers there is a pitch and play course at Petersfield (c. 25 mins by car) and golf clubs at Petersfield, Rowland’s Castle and Goodwood. Motor racing and horse racing are nearby at Goodwood and international polo at Cowdray Park. The stunning long sandy beach at West Wittering (Blue Flag status) is half an hour away as is the Cathedral city of Chichester with its ancient cathedral, theatre festival, Roman ruins and shopping. West Dean gardens, the Weald and Downland Museum, Butser Ancient Farm, Uppark National Trust house and Fishbourne Roman palace are all within easy reach. Portsmouth with its naval dockyard housing Nelson’s Victory, the Mary Rose and many activities for busy children is an easy drive away.
The house typically takes less than 90 minutes to reach from SW London and under two hours from central London by car. There is an hourly direct train to London Waterloo from Rowland’s Castle train station, which is 15 minutes’ drive from the house. There are also more frequent, and faster, services to London from Petersfield train station (c. 30 minutes’ drive from the house).

We had a wonderful long weekend with our family of 11 (6 adults and 5 children) to celebrate my husband’s big birthday.
The house was lovely and had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and lots of seating in the living room for when we cheered on GBR during the Paris Olympics.
We were lucky with the weather so had a day at West Wittering Beach, Sunday lunch at the Victoria Inn, a trip to Stansted Housr and farm shop and lots of games of rounders in the garden and table tennis too.
A magical time all under the same roof. Treasured memories forever.
Thanks to our host for being so communicative whenever we had a question, and for going out of her way to track down a wayward package that was delivered elsewhere.

We had a lovely stay at this property. The house has a modern interior, clean, plenty of beds and parking. Also, the pub within walking distance was lovely and had great food. Would absolutely stay here again!

3 generations of family together for a birthday celebration and the house was fantastic. Lots of open space, great decor - immaculate - everything you could need and lovely spacious garden all set in a great village location with pub a few steps down the road. The host was immediately responsive to a few minor queries/queries. What's not to love and can thoroughly recommend a celebration dinner at Potager Restaurant 25 mins away and lunch at the Victoria Inn was great too. Fantastic!

clearly a second or third home, not a property held for rental. excellent furniture/furnishings/decor, many fine paintings and prints, hundreds of paperbacks in bookcases throughout. highly recommend

We had a really lovely stay at the house and it was perfect for our 3.5 day stay over Xmas. The communication with the owner was very quick and efficient. The house catered for all our needs and everyone had a very enjoyable stay with plenty of room for everyone to be together or find their own space. It is in a perfectly quiet location, good for long walks and family get togethers.
The only issue we had were a large number of flies in the main bathroom, which we dealt with but more did keep appearing. It only affected this one room in the house. We understand the owner is dealing with this.

Clean, big enough for our team and ideal location

This house is just the best. Clever mixture of high tech and country comfort with the added benefit for book lovers that there are hundreds of books to suit all tastes throughout the house. Also a lovely garden for the kids to play in. And a nice pub two minutes walk down the hill. All in all, it suited our extended family perfectly and we all had a great time.

We were three generations, 5 adults and 5 children aged 7 to 12 staying at Tythe House. It was difficult finding a property that had enough single beds for the children, until we found this one. The house and garden were extremely spacious, with every facility you could possibly wish for. A great deal of thought has gone into providing everything a family could need. We visited Chichester Museum and Cathedral. West Wittering Beach was lovely, we recommend this if the weather is good.
Our grateful thanks to Alicia the owner.

The house was wonderful just like a home not a hotel. It is very light with comfort everywhere. Everything you could possibly want in the kitchen. The bed were extremely comfortable with a very high quality cotton sheets a joy to get into every evening. The pub in the village was wonderful and Catherine the owner was very welcoming. We had a lovely stay with our family to celebrate my husbands 80th birthday. Thank you Alicia. 😃

The pictures do not do this property justice. The house and yard were completely charming. It was clean, well appointed, and beautifully decorated. The host was very responsive with communication, and we had no issues. We would definitely love to stay here again. And we would also recommend the pub down the street (The Victoria Inn) where we had two fabulous meals and fantastic service.

Large house on a large plot both at the front and even more so in the enclosed rear garden. Plenty of room for all the family and lots of hiding seek spots in the garden for the children as well as a large lawn for outdoor games.
We were blessed with very sunny weather and spent every day out and about during our weeks stay. We particularly enjoyed West Wittering beach, about 30mins drive away, and its excellent huge sandy beach. One tip is to pre-book parking with the West Wittering Estate, particularly at weekends and school holidays.
The house is equipped with everything you need for a whole weeks catering or more and plenty of storage space for both larder and refrigerated or frozen items.
Overall an excellent holiday home.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week family break at this very comfortable, very well equipped family home. Plenty of room for us all and very relaxing area to visit. Some great walks and plenty of good days out. Pub at the end of the road serving good, home cooked food. Would recommend.

Holiday let
The house is situated in a little village it is very quiet and secluded thyhe house is amazing the photo's don't do it justice the garden is very large ideal for a large group the house is deceptive from the outside you go in and all said wow the dawn chorus in the morning if you like nature is something to behold if not just keep the windows closed the property is well insulated from the outside noise you get a very good sleep we stayed there for the festival of speed it was a exceptional place for this being about 8 miles away from the racetrack

Lovely house in a lovely area. Table tennis, cricket and football in the garden. Beautiful beach at West Wittering, interesting outing to Weald and Downland Living Museum, lovely walk on Harting Down and great kids’ cycling on Hayling Island. House exceptionally well-equipped and spotlessly clean.

I booked the house for a weekend away with a group of friends and we couldn’t have hoped for a better place to chill out together for the weekend.
Communication with the host was good, both before the stay and on the day of arrival after I had to text with a query and got a prompt response.
The house was beautifully done up with a really well equipped kitchen (2 fridges & 2 dishwashers!!) and an amazing garden. The table tennis table was a great addition and got lots of action over the weekend! There was a BBQ at the house and our hostess even provided charcoal for us after our online food order arrived minus the charcoal we had ordered.
The lounge was a great size and accommodated us all comfortably but it was handy also having a smaller lounge if anyone wanted a bit of piece and quiet, plus great to have a cupboard full of games.
The beds were all really comfy and the standard of cleanliness was very high.
I can’t fault anything about the house. I only wish we could have stayed for a week.
Many thanks Alicia. Hope to return at some point.

Celebrating a family birthday
We had a family get together to celebrate my Dad's birthday. The booking was straightforward and I received directions in good time. The house is beautiful and the photos don't do it justice. The trampoline and ping pong table kept the teenagers entertained. We did have a problem with the hot water on the Saturday morning but Alicia replied to my texts quickly and the problem was solved. The South Downs is beautiful and that's part of the reason we chose this property. All in all we had a lovely weekend celebrating a special birthday.

As a multi generational family group, we loved the house, garden and location. We have more things on our “to do” list than we managed in the fortnight. Highlights included the Victoria Inn in easy walking distance, West Wittering beach and the open air lido in Petersfield. The children alsoloved the Alicorn nest (trampoline) in the garden . The house is beautifully fitted out throughout. Superb laundry/boot room and the ground floor shower was in regular use on return from the beach. Alicia was very friendly and helpful.

The whole experience was great. Booking was easy, Alicia the owner was accessible and communicated well and sent lots of details on how we could enjoy the property and local areas. The local pub was close by and really welcoming and we felt right at home there and the food was outstanding. Overall a wonderful experience in a beautiful house, with a great layout of bedrooms and bathrooms so plenty of space for all 8 of us. The garden is large and great and safe for our young kids aswell as relaxing for the adults.
