Staff (Kata, Joey and Sam) were friendly and helpful. Owners Bernd and Naoko were also very friendly and went out of their way to make sure all guests enjoyed their stay. They all made us feel like family or good friends. The hotel was in a perfect position for ski in ski out, and we had lovely meals at the restaurant. Our room was very comfortable and warm with great views of the mountains.

Bernd and Naoko were incredible hosts and went out of their way to make our entire family feel very special. Its clear to me that they love being in hospitality. The way they care for their guests, lead their staff team and run the hotel is very rare.
This trip was the first one for our family where Cathy did not ski. Bernd was very helpful with recommending activities for her to undertake while the rest of us were skiing.
I would not hesitate to recommend their hotel to any of my friends and family and I look forward to returning for another stay in the future.
David, Cathy,
Update of TVs to Smart TVs would be nice but to be honest I didn't have time to watch it anyway 😉

Superb hospitality from Bernd and Naoko! The staff are welcoming just like the bosses. We love the beddings. Extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast is one of the best served in hotels.
Would like at least 2 chairs and a table in the room for a drink etc.

Beautiful location and convenient location. Good sized rooms. Beautiful breakfast included in room rate. Lovely restaurant means available and friendly owners and staff.

This is the hotel to stay at if you want to maximise your time on the mountain. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast with a great view of the ski slope, then strap on your gear, walk out the door, and ski down to the chairlift. No messing about with buses and transfers to the mountain each morning - you are already on it! The hotel itself was very clean and thoughtfully decorated. The owners and staff were lovely, and they will arrange a shuttle bus to and from the happo bus terminal should you need this. You can use the onsen at The Happo hotel for free, but there isn't one in the Marillen building. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I come to Hakuba.

amazing can’t wait for my second trip

The hotel is right at the base of Happo One....ski in and ski out. Incredible location. Everyone was more than friendly. You'll find the atmosphere in the restaurant/bar is incredible.....we were treated like family and nothing was too much for anyone to do for us.
Bathrooms are on the small side.

Our whole experience staying at the Marillen Hotel was nothing short of outstanding. The location is perfect - right at the base of Happo One mountain for true ski in, ski out. Nearest lift is about 50 metres away.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable compared to comparable hotels and the restaurant served great German food and beer!
But the best thing about the hotel was the service. From owners Bernd and Naoko all the way down to each staff member, we experienced just truly exceptional service during our whole stay. From getting tips on where the best snow would be the following day, to Bernd driving me to a different resort one day when I missed the bus, to Naoko sitting down with my brother who has food issues and discussing with him and the chef what he could eat and what they could prepare, nothing was too much for them. I have never experienced such genuinely friendly service as this.
To Bernd and Naoko I can’t thank you enough for making my brothers birthday trip such a great and memorable experience. You should be proud of the fine business you run.
To anyone else thinking of staying here, we booked our whole trip around when this hotel would be available based on a lot to research and reading all the reviews. You will not be disappointed staying here.

Everything! Extremely clean, super comfy beds and the most friendly, helpful staff I have ever had the pleasure of coming across at a hotel. Not to mention you can literally ski/snowboard to the front door. By the end of our 8 night stay, we were so sad to leave - it felt like we were saying goodbye to family when we checked out. We will definitely be back!
I honestly couldn’t fault our stay.

The room was fabulous, great location and lovely to be able to ski in, ski out. Very comfortable bed. Fabulous staff, friendly and work hard to ensure your stay is perfect. Excellent customer service and very customer focused. Everyone was very helpful. The breakfast is superb and just what you need to set you up for a day of skiing. Great drying room for ski gear. Loved the secure lockers. Awesome music at the outdoor bar nearby and good mulled wine! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful family stays, with a fantastic welcome. The owner couple is so charming and so available to make our stay pleasant and easy. And the food experience is really great and authentic. The place is quiet, and very well situated, just on the ski slopes.
4.6
Great location in front of the lifts, very close to nearby restaurants as well.
Shuttle bus was nicely organized to go to evergreen ski school which was so convenient.
We also benefited from the sister-hotel onsen which was brand new. This on top of great breakfast and dinning room made our stay memorable
Not much, really.

Summary - The staff, location, food, and facilities were excellent for a five-day getaway with my wife. Parking was free and nearby, and the chair lift to go up the mountain (Happo) for skiing/boarding is just a couple of steps away. Rentals were easy to do and the staff arranged all of the transportation and reservations for us. It was great having a hearty breakfast every morning, which was included in our stay. Plus, the overall lodge theme and decor were warm and inviting.
Decor and Facilities - There are big windows with a great view of the mountains and nearby lift. Whenever our ski wear and equipment got wet, we would leave our gloves/helmet/boots, etc. in the dry room (with free lockers) and it was warm and ready to go for us in the morning. There was a free self-service washer/dryer with complimentary detergent as well which made our five-day stay a breeze.
Restaurant - For breakfast and dinner, the hotel restaurant is AWESOME. We at there three nights and ordered the venison, chef salad, fondue, and pork knuckle. Everything was delicious. Breakfast was included and there was a pretty good selection of different western-style dishes (fresh toast, pancakes, English Breakfast, cereals, etc). They are generous with the portions and we always looked forward to the hot Gluhwein (hot spiced wine) right after we finished skiing.
Staff - The staff is extremely friendly, but not overly so. They are there when you need them and can arrange rentals, reservations, and transportation for you.
Location - It really doesn't get any better than being right next to the mountains. Many restaurants were within walking distance and others were just a 5-10 minute shuttle/car ride away.
Rooms - The rooms were spacious and well decorated with good views no matter where you were. The bed was extremely comfortable after a long day of skiing.
There were only two very, very minor things. Bathrooms need an upgrade. They don't match the decor of the room and feel cramped. Also, humidifiers would be welcome as they tended to get pretty dry in the evenings. Again, these things were barely an inconvenience.

Very good stay in a family establishment. The owners, Bernd and Naoko, and all the staff, are really lovely and take great care of their customers. The location at the foot of the slopes is ideal, the breakfast is delicious. The station is really very nice, we recommend!

the room was beautiful. good facilities to store the skis.
the bathroom was very small and dated
they advertise live music but did not tell us there wasn’t any.
we got moved out of the hotel to a chalet but didn’t get any compensation or real apology for the big inconvenience. ‘we had to ask to get breakfast sorted as we had already paid for it.
