Very friendly host! Good cozy common space and kitchen.
The room was very crammed, not space for luggage

Incredible value for money and probably the best place I stayed while in Japan. Everything at the Bohemians' Shelter is well thought out and ran. Absolute gem of a place to stay and the owner Gaspard is a big part of the great experience. Entertaining and thoughtful while also being an incredible resource for any questions about the Hakuba valley area.
Ski in ski out is always best but it would be impossible with how all the Hakuba resorts are laid out. The shuttle system at Bohemian's Shelter works great and gives you lots of flexibility and options for each day.

It was very cosy and had ample space for everyone. The hostel is not walking distance to the slopes but there is a shuttle every morning and evening anyway so that wasn’t a problem. The owner Gaspard is really friendly too! He would make sure everything is alright for everyone there. Made so many new friends here and will definitely come back in the future.

I had a beautiful one week stay snowboarding and making new friends. I felt like I stayed in a home with friends rather than a hostel. The house is the perfect place to hit the slopes all day and relax and socialise with fellow skiers and boarders in the evening. It is very clean and cozy, has beautiful views and a lovely lounge to hang out in. You can reach any snow field around town due to the well organised shuttle service. Gaspard is a kind and generous host, always friendly and welcoming. Hope to visit again one day! 😊

The owner is nice and helpful. Ask him anything about Hakuba and I'm sure he could answer you, especially about the mountains!
Guests are chill, such a happy atmosphere in the shelter, everyone is having fun :D

the place was unreal, awesome location, great people and great food
really lovely area, loads of snow monkeys around!

Gaspard was an amazing host and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay in Hakuba. The shuttle service made things so easy, and his knowledge of the area was invaluable.

The Bohemian Shelter was the perfect hostel for my solo trip to the snow. All of the staff went over and above- to create a warm and friendly environment and made it easy to hit various mountains each day. I unfortunately had to go to hospital one day (with a snowboarding injury) and Gaspard took me there himself, waiting until I was discharged. For anyone wanting an affordable, hostel style, snow trip- I would highly recommend.

it was a beautiful traditional house

The staff and especially the owner is amazing! Haven't felt more welcomed in any other hostel:)
They will pick you up from the bus station and also drive you to the town in the morning and back to the house in the afternoon.
Very convenient and easy to schedule. Very japanese like house interior and in the woods with a great view on the mountains! Dinner and breakfast together, so a nice atmosphere.
WiFi was quiet slow, so not for working recommended.
Also relatively cold if the heaters are turned off (but I prefer 30+ rather than under 20)

It's a really nice house tucked away in the woods, it would be ski in ski out if the snow hadn't all melted by the time we got there, but there's a nice view of the mountains behind the trees, and it's a 5/10 minute walk to an amazing viewpoint! The room is nice, with big cosy duvets and we had a heater to keep up warm. Great kitchen to use but we also had breakfast included, the only place we stayed in Japan that offered this! Big lounge to relax in as well. The guys working and staying there were super friendly, and it felt like a place we could have spent a lot longer if only we had more time.
The only small downside was the distance from town but the guy who owns the place (sorry I forgot his name) came to pick us up right from the bus station, and he does give lifts to and from the village, especially for skiing/snowboarding, so it's really not an issue!

Great atmosphere in the house.
The host is very helpful and I recommend the in-house meal in the evening
