Lovely location and obviously on a very good golf course. Rooms were lovely and had all the facilities you would expect. Staff were brilliant and breakfast was superb. Eveything available to you including fruit, pastries, cooked full english, sweet, savioury. All as a buffet but no food left out for long periods of time so it was all fresh.
The only thing was that the pool and steam rooms etc were a long way away from our room. Nothing wrong with that, but at the end of a long journey to get there, it was just a hassle to take all our stuff across the large expanse of the resort to get to the pool. It was us being lazy I accept, but you did ask!!

The golf courses are great. Challenging and really enjoyed.
Food, which was average, and alcoholic drink prices are extortionate. £19 for basic pizza..£19 for average fish and chips ...£7.50 per pint. Cheapest bottle of average wine is £28. In view of this there's not much to commend the bar services.

Looks very grand as you drive up to the hotel .. Grounds are lovely ..
Rooms are dated which is fine for the type of property. I did not like the lack of ventilation in the rooms.. Hot and stuffy. Window was restricted. Thank goodness for the small fan in the room.

The leisure centre and swimming pool
Buffet breakfast. Some cooked to order items would be nice. E.g eggs benedict

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was good. The was clean and spacious and serviced every day.
The hotel was to far from the main road to go and catch a bus if you need to.The leisure facilities was also to far from your room.

Nothing, from the moment we entered the hotel it was downhill all the way.
Room lacked ventilation and smelled of dampness, only means of ventilation was patio doors, not handy when raining. After a shower nothing dried and dampness permeated wardrobe and clothes. Curtains were badly needing changed and carpets were stained. Outdated, overpriced and badly in need of refurbishment.

We thought it would be quiet, as we stayed here before…
We couldn’t use the restaurant as it was fully booked,as there was a wedding.. so had to eat the bar food … but struggled to get a table ,and when we finally did get one .. we couldn’t enjoy our food as it was so noisy with a couple of large groups of people…. 14 people bagged a load of chairs and all sat around the table next to us and the same again behind us….. disappointed.

The spa and leisure facilities are good, perhaps a little tired (poolside showers need tweaking and the rail to the jacuzzi is wobbly) but clean and a good selection of facilities. Nice old building if you like architecture.
Very uncomfortable bed. Our room (deluxe double) had an adjoining room which meant that we could hear every word that our neighbours were saying, and every time they opened their door, the adjoining door would slam really loud. Not the place to go to relax, considering the price which is probably double what I'd expect to spend. Food and cocktails ridiculously expensive - £12 for a bowl of nachos which I would expect to be a sharing plate but was really tiny and not good quality - the sauces were clearly from a bottle. Cocktails £15 each, we didn't try them because they quality of everything else didn't warrant this price, the same price you would pay at a high end cocktail bar in Cardiff where it's properly hand made. This place is a beautiful old building but unfortunately it's misguided style over substance. Far too expensive for what you get. And it's really confusing finding your way around. The spa was impossible to find as the signs are pointless and you have to walk through a second 'secret' closed restaurant to get there. Spa treatments very expensive. Fruited water in the reception remained empty for hours one day.

Very nice golf course right at the hotel. The breakfast was good with an omelette bar on the weekend.
The room was disappointing and did not match our expectations. It was very small and dark.

Fantastic location and a stunning location perfect for the races or caldicot castle
Excellent facilities
Check-in was chaotic with many waiting for their rooms to be ready.. The hotel unfortunately lost my booking so we had to wait over an hour to find out if we indeed had our room .. even though this was pre-paid .. the receptionist was dismissive and told us the hotel was fully booked .. I would suggest a different tone of total indifference and annoyance from the receptionist would have been more suitable. Possibly don’t worry we will sort this out for you.. I contacted booking.com and when I got through to customer services, they contacted the hotel and finally nearly 2 hours later we got to our room .. such a shame as the hotel and grounds were perfect for our needs

Gorgeous building with a good range of facilities. Pool was a decent size, and it was good to have a jacuzzi and steam room and sauna all available with poolside showers. The gym had plenty of machines and the changing rooms were spacious and well equipped. The relax room at the spa was lovely and I had a good massage & pedicure. There was plenty of parking. There was a mini-fridge in the room which was very useful. I ate in the restaurant and had room service, and the food was delicious. They pay attention to sustainability which I liked (the bin had sections for recycling and other rubbish, and the room service food came in recycled packaging). Bed was incredibly comfortable. Generally a calm and peaceful environment. Shower was decent and there was plenty of storage in the room.
It doesn’t quite live up to the luxury country club vibe. My room door didn’t have soft-close, so it always slammed heavily. There was no AC, only a slightly noisy fan. My room hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly enough: there was a lotion bottle on the floor behind one of the bedside tables, the kettle still had water in it, there was previous guests’ rubbish in a cupboard, & there was visible dust on the bedside lamps. There was no spare socket beside the bed for charging phones etc. The table had a large chip in the surface, the tv unit doors were not hung level, and the metal tissue cover in the bathroom was hanging off the wall. The tv guide never worked. I had asked for my room to be serviced every 3 days; it was done the day before I checked out, but then on the morning I was checking out the housekeeping staff knocked and wanted to do the room again - I would have expected them to know who was checking out that day and not disturb guests while they’re getting ready to leave. When they did do my room, they left dirty cutlery behind. The service in the restaurant was so slow and it took me so long to catch anyone’s eye that I had to get up and ask for the bill. At one point the staff on reception were having an audible conversation about staff turnover, which I could hear from clear across the room. When I used the pool, there was a dad with two young children who were screaming, running, and jumping; although staff did speak to him about the pool rules, the kids kept being noisy and splashing to the point where I could hear them from inside the steam room and nothing further was done about it. The mini-fridge was fairly loud so it was a choice of struggling to sleep or not having use of the fridge. At the spa, I was given one thin towel to cover myself instead of a nice blanket. The spa waiting area is just off the gym, so very noisy and not at all relaxing.

Very approachable staff . Relaxed atmosphere. While a country club/golf club- that did not impinge on our stay. Very good selection, variety and quality breakfast. Evening meal- we had the burgers , lacked something - nothing wrong but taste wise - could have done with a bit of wow, along with the squid, very neutral in taste.
Room service availability- we arrived back at the hotel at 11.00pm - and while did not expect a food offering - something than than crisps and nuts would be a bonus in the future

The breakfast was excellent. The staff worked very hard clearing tables and ensuring that all breakfast items were replenished.
The dining room needs a better bread knife as it was almost impossible to cut a piece off the loaf with the blunt knife supplied, although the bread itself was excellent!... I wasn't the only person having difficulty with the knife.

Beds and room fine. Location great. Bathroom clean and nice.
TV was hard to work even for my 17yr daughter. It's too slow. WiFi not activated and we had to ring front desk. No porcine cups and not enough milk. Breakfast was like Mcdonalds and just not 4* standard. Yet again, plastic cups and wooden cutlery!! Didn't have that at my last 3* hotel. What's going on. Also, rubbish piled up on entrance to carpark and a clear heath risk and no doubt rat city!!

Breakfast was divine, staff couldn’t do enough for you- so polite and professional, especially the young lady who checked us in! Rooms were lovely as was the spa facilities. As it was our anniversary we arrived to a card, rose petals and little swan towels- little lovely touches that made our whole stay fabulous! 12pm check out is great too! The food in the restaurant on the evening was beautiful and it was just a really nice, warm atmosphere. Will defo return!
More scallops on my starter please….they are so moreish and cooked so well!!!

The property and grounds are both stunning.

The pool was good. Reception was interesting and not very clear about checking in so I ended up logging my bags around most of the site only to return to the same place to check in!
We had a room on the lower floor that had a view of a bank that had brambles growing on it. The room was like a budget hotel room - it was nice enough but we saw no evidence of why it had been rated 4 starts, it is definitely not a 4-star hotel. The bar staff were really good.
3.8
Very peaceful & beautiful scenery from the window. Grounds immaculately kept. Bathroom very clean & bed very comfortable (and large!)
No milk left in the room for tea or coffee. Window was dirty but overlooked lake so maybe that was why. Drops of paint on window glass where last painted & not wiped off at the time, same with external door plate - more care when redecorating.
3.8
A good breakfast, location and golf course setting with historic stone built architecture.
Reception staff a little patronising when we asked for room directions more than once.
Used glass ware left outside a near by room for 2 whole days - not what we have come to expect from Marriott.

I liked how it was clean and the refurb was definitely needed, it looks 100% better.

It all went well, the use of the pool in the morning, the Easter Egg Hunt [my Grandaughter was particularly ruthless in her search]. The room was fine, breakfast was very good.
The fact it was in the middle of a golf course which meant that what could have been a very pleasant walk was ruined. {with apologies to Mark Twain]

Like the relaxed place .
Love the place. But drinks and food was way to expensive so we drove out and had a meal and drinks outside the Marriott . drink and food was cheaperwould have stayed there all night

Location and facilities were great. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
In general food was really good but we ordered a Steak which was very overpriced and only came with one small tomato. Waiter did say they were aware of this and looking into changing menus. I don’t normally complain as everyone’s expectations are different but this was too poor to ignore.

the TV remote was very dusty, the toiletries were near empty but that didn't spoil my stay.
