The Ryokan exceeded our expectations. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and the Ryokan itself was absolutely beautiful. The entire space felt serene and calming, with thoughtful attention to detail in every aspect. The tea ceremony, bath and traditional Japanese breakfast were the highlights of our stay, making it a truly unforgettable experience in Kyoto.
One thing to note but was not a big deal to us, is that the Ryokan requests returning by 11 PM in the evenings. It wasn’t a hard set rule but more of an ask. We obliged and didn’t think it was a big deal, but for other travelers who are maybe looking to enjoy their night out, it’s something to consider.

Personnel incroyable. L’établissement est typique.

Everything, host, rooms and common areas
Maybe a little far from the “ city center “ but not too bad
Also close to some important landmarks like kinkaku~ji so it isn’t a big problem

Our hosts were exepctional, went above and beyond our expectations. I lost my wallet on a day trip to Nara, when coming back to the Ryokan. Our hosts then went and got in contact with the local shrine, Nara temple and then even going to the local police, through their efforts we ended up retrieving it from the police station the following day! I never would have found if it wasnt for their help! :)
We really enjoyed the tranquilty of the tradtional Ryokan, and the bath was such a bonus as when arriving back each day, the first question we were asked was if we wanted a bath run for us, which adds a lovely homely touch, especially after a day full of sightseeing.
We also attended the tea ceramony the host provided, which was as traditional as it could get, and you really get to appreciate craft and skill involved in making the tea . The breakfasts in the morning were exceptional giving you a full authentic taste of a traditional Japanese breakfast, with the added touch of our hostess walking through each component on the plate and even giving insight as to what compliments each best.
Finally, our hosts also gave us some lovely reccomendations of places to eat which we tried out and were outstanding.
Faultless.

Staying here was a wonderful blend of a traditional experience with some modern flare in the accommodations. The hosts go above and beyond and I would have loved to stay longer.
What is there not to like? Nothing but good things here, just look at all the other reviews.

The lady running this ryokan went absolutely above and beyond, we felt incredibly well-cared for the whole time. The tea ceremony alone was a transporting and magical experience, but then add to that the traditional breakfast, cozy comfortable rooms, a private bath, and the super kind host… This was by far our favourite place to stay in the three weeks we have spent in Japan.

Cozy, beautiful and lovely hosts. Even when we were late for checking it, they were always attentive to the messages, waited for us for the tea ceremony and offer us the private Onsen to rest after your trip. We only stayed one night, but would have love staying longer. They advised us about nice places to eat out and sightseeing, and the breakfast was beautiful and delicious. While in the tea ceremony we learn about the history of green tea and samurai’s, and we felt very welcomed. The place is lovely, the decoration and the style inverse you into the traditional Japan. We highly recommend this place.

Todo el alojamiento es excepcional, pero sobre todo el trato y la hospitalidad de Satako.
Una gran experiencia.

The facilities were clean and the service was really nice. The staffs were lovely and very welcoming. Also, the value for money is very high.
You have to come back to the ryokan until 23:00, which is kind of early, especially if you want to enjoy the night Kyoto.
Also, the service is made for tourists, it is a very stereotypical ryokan, which was weirdly "too authentic". Yes, you get the typical tatami, futon, onsen experience with the most "typical Japanese breakfast" and the "typical Japanese tea ceremony experience". Don't get me wrong, nothing is wrong with this, but it's clearly targeted towards foreigners. As a Japanese person who knows about Japanese culture and ryokans, it was like doing a tutorial of a game you know by heart. The tutorial was nice and all, but it was just not for me.
If you want a foreigner friendly beginner guide to a Japanese ryokan, this is the best place to do it, but if you want to go to a ryokan where locals go, you might want to consider elsewhere.

Building and cultural demonstrations by the host were top-notch. Atmosphere was super peaceful and the host was very accomodating and friendly.
Only complaint was that the bedding provided was mattresses on the ground as opposed to traditional ryokan beds. Probably more comfortable, though slightly less authentic.

A little difficult to find.

The owner was very warm and thoughtful. Every effort was taken to make me feel comfortable. The tea ceremony and the lovely bathroom were bonuses. The place was very clean and tastefully arranged to delight the senses including one's sense of smell via the use of incense.

This was a wonderful find. It is a beautiful property for those who love Japanese culture, and Satoko-san, the owner, was graciousness personified, and took great care of us -- from her tea ceremony demonstration to preparing the ofuro, not to mention a delicious breakfast. Part of me wants to keep Ryokan Tori a secret to be shared only with family and friends, and another part of me wants to let everyone know that this is an unmissable Kyoto experience.
Nothing. It was a perfect experience (and I am a difficult person to please having lived in Japan for 25 years, 2 of which in Japan.)

Beautiful ryokan with the most caring owners. We had such a unique experience and would repeat it every time we return to Kyoto! Breakfast was amazing and we had a tea ceremony which was beautiful and very cultural!

Our host was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We stayed to celebrate our anniversary and the host included many minor touches that made our stay delightful.
Pricey, but good value compared to similar Ryokan's, especially when considering that tea ceremony is included.

took you back in time with authenticity and charm truly beautiful ryokan - the people the team that run it were wonderful
the noise of the street - it seemed to be the same noisy traffic late at night

Clean and beautifully designed space. One of the best Japanese breakfasts I’ve had in Kyoto. It was great to have Japanese style bath facilities. The added bonus of having the tea ceremony was wonderful. It was a really special part of my stay.

Beautiful building, renovated old home in Kyoto city. Traditional Ryokan experience. Wonderful atmosphere. Host was extremely helpful and welcoming. Fantastic hospitality. We participated in a traditional tea ceremony within the ryokan. Delicious breakfast - traditional Japanese cuisine. Futons were extremely warm. Bike rental was convenient. Close to bus stops.
Charming building, not a negative for us but note that there is a steep windy staircase to the rooms and low doorways for those 175cm over.

Authentic atmosphere, comfortable room, and great bath. Incl. breakfast was good. The tea ceremony was a pleasant bonus. The rental bicycle option is convenient.
Nothing particular really. Perhaps a bit crowded relative to the facility size, but it is a inner city ryokan after all. It's a bit far away from central Kyoto, with no public transportation in the evening and limited evening dining options.
