We arrived in York earlier than planned and the hotel staff allowed us to check in a couple of hours early which was really helpful! The staff were very warm and welcoming throughout our stay!
We stayed in a Deluxe room which felt so luxurious and spacious when we walked in. I was in awe of the wallpaper and enormous stand-alone bath. The bed felt like a giant squidgy cuddly marshmallow which made a good night's sleep a breeze. Breakfast was delightful. We both ordered the full English which was perfectly cooked and the perfect portion. The breakfast buffet was also perfect as there was good variety and presented so prettily. The dining room, bar and lounge area were very cosy and clean. They have an impressive wine list. I had their alsace reisling was lovely and chilled perfectly. We would 100% stay here again!
A great thing about this hotel is that whilst it is only a short walk (took us just over 15 minutes) into the city centre, it is on a much quieter road which is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle after a day of exploring York.
There was nothing we did not like!

Very friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely scent through the hotel and in rooms
The website shows example of rooms and lists what they contain, the only difference between Classic and Deluxe being the size, with the latter at 300sqft. It highlights the beautiful grade 2 building .
We booked a Deluxe as one of few hotels with really big rooms. But was quite cramped, dark and noisy from traffic. It was in a modern building annex next to the main, grade 2 building.
The main problem with this is the lack of transparency with what you're booking in terms of the size and being a separate building, you don't feel part of the hotel as enter annex from outside via it's own door, so wouldn't naturally visit the bar, lounge, chat with staff etc.Why not say this when choosing rooms as some other hotels do, and ideally show photos of the specific rooms so can choose.
I mentioned we weren't happy with the room after the first night and they were happy to move us to another room in the main building. Much bigger, lighter and quieter - just highlighting the difference, hence my point.
Gave a 6 but if all rooms similar to second, and in main building would have given an 8

Its in the name - the Hotel du Vin group has hotels with a focus on good food and wine - dinner bed and breakfast deal with an evening meal to match any good French bistro style restaurant you'll fine in England
Can't think of anything we didn't like - you'd have to be very picky to find fault with the Hotel du Vin in York

Comfortable rooms, lovely public areas and great food in the restaurant.
Wildly expensive parking at £15 per night. Some confusion among staff about charging for our dog and over vouchers for foregoing room cleaning

Our room was in the 'new' block/annexe. We were so impressed with it. Really comfy bed with delicious duvet cover and soft pillows. Glasses (not plastic) on the tray and the bathroom, with complimentary water every day. The bathroom gel, shampoo etc smelled delicious. Sweet cleaning lady, we left her a tip as we were so pleased. Had two excellent breakfasts and two dinners - all very good with very nice staff. Several different areas to sit and have a drink or just relax. Good bar, the House Red is excellent. Free parking at the back. A lovely stay.
Ashtrays outside the main doors/side exit would be a very good idea, and would avoid people leaving cigarette butts on the paving or in the flower beds. There is a designated hut for smokers but as it was raining all the time we were there, I suppose people didn't want to walk to it....

The location and the staff were professional
They tried to charge me for parking £15.00, quoting that it is in their T and C's. The receptionist made an exception to not charge me, which is a credit to the staff member, however I dont like the policy of charging and hiding the clause somewhere in their terms and conditions

Very comfortable bed and nice bedroom. Lovely breakfast and excellent staff
Bathroom a little dated, although it was a nice surprise to have a bath. There were some loose tiles on the bathroom floor and the bathroom fittings could do with an upgrade

The guy behind the bar was nice.
I thought having to pay for parking when we were staying there was not good. Room incredibly hot. Drinks v expensive.

Location was good, room was very nice, staff were all very pleasant
Every time someone run the water in the room below the noise that came from this was very loud. Noise continued for around 15 minutes made this part of the night very uncomfortable.

Great location, easy parking on site, speedy checkin
Starting to look a little dated

Good location within walking distance of train station.
Overpriced. It’s fine, comfortable and clean. But nothing special. Staff not particularly friendly at check in or in lounge area. Better deals to be had elsewhere. Would not stay again.

The location is perfect surrounded by plenty of pubs and restaurants. Close to the train station and only a short walk to the city.
The breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from.

Pretty much everything

lovely room
I would not say it was worth £500 for 2 nights
We were also offered an upgrade prior to arrival which I accepted, to be told it was not available due to a wedding being on the same day. Very disappointing

Lovely room, just like the pictures. Staff were very friendly. Easy to check in & out. Great location! Nice drinks (but very expensive.) Hotel clean & well presented throughout. Plenty of parking (£10 charge).
Only 1 towel in room for 2 of us (we only realised in the morning as we were about to get showers so couldn't ask for another as no time). Room was boiling, a/c available but was noisy. Lots of noise outside room in morning from other guests and cleaners, doors slamming etc!

This was our second one night stay within a very short time and once again could not be faulted. Everything was very straight forward from check-in to check-out. Ample free car parking, a large comfortable room and an excellent breakfast. Couldn't ask for more.
Everything fine. Nothing to dislike !

Appreciate old building but noise between rooms / floor boards not great.
Toilet seat loose

excellent location and friendly staff.
it would be nice if it was easier to contact the hotel directly on the phone. Because the bathroom radiators are switched off the bathrooms are often chilly even with fan heaters being used. This was our sixth visit to the Hotel it would be nice if there was a loyalty program of some sort.

Bedroom spacious for a classic room
Bar area very small, wedding on during our stay
9.0 / 10.0
A lovely hotel with attentive staff and excellent food.
It's a minor point, but the bathroom sink was worn and cracked, and some some lights didn't work.
9.0 / 10.0
Great location walking distance to the centre of York, comfortable room, parking facilities, friendly staff.
Small point. On this visit we chose a better room. The was great, but the 'double bed' was two singles put next to each other, normally this wouldn't be a problem, except that my beds mattress was not very comfortable. I suspect its been well used and needs replacing. Also the pillows were too soft.. this was not an issue the other times we have stayed at the hotel
