About this house rental
Feel your troubles melt away as you drive down the quarter mile lane to your secluded water-front farm house. The house is perched on a private knoll overlooking approximately 100 yards of waterfront on Sturgeon Creek in Deltaville. BYOB—bring your own boats-- to tie to your private dock, with depth at low tide of approximately 3’. Canoe, kayaks, bicycles, and fishing tackle/crab pots are available for loan. Savor sunset cocktails on your large water-front screened porch, or down on the waterfront.
The space
Back in the early 1920s, a fishing captain named Stuart Daniels had a banner year fishing the Chesapeake Bay. His catch that year was so bountiful that he was able to purchase a 15 acre property on Sturgeon Creek in Deltaville, where he built a handsome 3 story American Foursquare house for his wife and children. The Daniels family kept this property until 1958, when the property was purchased by our father who was a football coach by profession. He opened a Summer Camp on the property, known as Camp Rappahannock, in 1960.
By 1965, this coach had married, and had three children. The camp became more than this young family could manage. With that, Camp Rappahannock became our private family summer retreat where we returned every summer to unwind. The property still remains in our family today, and we are happy to share this private waterfront vacation destination with you and your family.
If you enjoy the salt life, but prefer to escape the crowds at the beach, this is the place for you! Catch dinner-- fish and crab off the end of your own pier. There are an abundance of fish and crabs accessible right from the dock. Many different fish species can be caught here. Spot, Croaker, Flounder, Speckled Trout, Stiff-back Perch, Bluefish, Red Drum and Striped Bass are all available at different times throughout the year. We have found that seafood tastes even better when you catch and cook it yourself!
Guest access
Kitchen, Dining Room, Laundry Room, Living Room, Front and Back Porches, 5 bedrooms and 2 baths.
Other things to note
This is a rustic, country house, so there are a few things to note before your stay: the house has two full bathrooms, so we recommend spacing out showers throughout the day. To reduce stress on the septic system, we ask that guests limit the length of their showers to 10 minutes. We do have a Ranai tankless water heater so there is always hot water available. We do ask that guests avoid showering when the dishwasher and/or washing machine are in use. Like most houses in rural Virginia, all water in the house comes from a well. Although perfectly adequate for cooking and brushing teeth, well water has a distinctive flavor. We recommend bringing a few jugs of water for drinking.

Our group loves staying at Camp Rappahannock! It's our third year and it's a wonderful stay every time.

Our third time staying here, We love the house space for all 11 of us. Paddleboards, kayaks, canoe, fishing off dock, wonderful yard for baseball football. Fire pit tops off the evenings.

Beautiful house with a fantastic view. Everything you can think of needing for a weeks stay, the property provides.
This was our second time renting Camp Rappahannock and we already planning to come back next year!

This is our third stay at Camp Rappahannock and I can't wait to get back for a fourth. It is so comfortable and welcoming and has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful summer visit.

This property is absolutely wonderful. The house is located on a large lot that is very private. The house has large rooms that are all beautifully decorated. We all really enjoyed the screened back porch. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our second stay at camp Rappahannock. We bring our boat spend part of the day on the Rappahannock River or the sandbar at Jackson Creek. There are plenty of restaurants that you can take the boat to. Deltaville is a very quiet town do you like water sun sitting on the back porch and relaxation this is the place for you. The family are awesome hosts.

Very spacious, beds are comfortable. We enjoyed morning coffee on back porch watching all of the wildlife. We explored the inlet on the kayaks. The stove was awesome. We would love to come back.
Only suggestion is for future renters, there is a book by the front door with the history of the house. Wish we found earler, lots of interesting history.

Thoughtful Home, Relaxing Trip
This is a beautiful old house. But please remember in your stay that it is old and reflects its age in some cases - squeaky doors that are sometimes difficult to open, limited bathrooms, no built-in air circulation on the third floor. However! The entire house is extremely well appointed. Fans in every room, a portable AC unit on the third floor, so so so much in the kitchen (we always bring a few key items from home because you never know in a rental and didn't need one of them), high chair, toys for kids, kid-friend dishes and silverware, enough bath towels that you will never run out, soap and TP and paper towels provided, so many books for every age range, games, DVDs. Something that the house can't help is the internet service. The entire area is basically a dead zone for internet and cell service, so keep that in mind if you need to take a work call while you're there, you'll need to find a spot somewhere else to connect and take the call. The property was beautiful with kayaks and a canoe and life jackets and corn hole and crocket and crab apple trees and wild blackberry bushes and a deer family and a very fat groundhog. The dock was functional, though a railing spanning the entire deck wouldn't go awry. The water there is sort of river meets ocean. The little beach was great for my kids to play in and so much fishing (though limited catching) of fish and crabs was had. The worst part was the influx of sea nettle jellyfish. They were always there, sometimes in oppressive numbers, so we didn't feel comfortable swimming and limited our paddle boating. That was a real bummer, but no fault of the house. My only true complaint was the living room couch. It's musty and very old and could use replacement. But that was the tiniest blip in an otherwise lovely week away from home. And the STOVE! If you have someone who loves to cook, book this house so they can use the stove. It was so cool and I couldn't peel my husband away from it. Overall, a great trip and we'd be really happy to visit again.

Camp Rappahannock
Third time we have stayed here and we love it.

Our family including our children and three grandsons (7, 9 and 13) stayed at Camp Rappahannock over Thanksgiving and it was everything we wanted it to be and more. The farmhouse was amazing, the location on the water was beautiful and it was reminiscent of a simpler time. We enjoyed outside time, board games and making wonderful memories. The old camp stove was so fun to cook on. We will enjoy returning in the warm months.

We loved this home so much! First, my sister-in-law and I thought the stove was cool. The bedrooms were all lovely. Comfortable beds. There is a large bedroom with a study area on the 3rd floor that our 14-year-old loved. It was adorable. We enjoyed the paddle boards, TV was fun to watch a football game one night. And the porch was the best! Perfect location for our niece's weekend wedding! Manager was awesome and told us about a fun place for lunch about 20 minutes away! Wish we had more time to fish. Thanks for a wonderful long weekend!

Love this place
Property owners provide most everything you can imagine. Check out was easier than being at a beach house.
Lovely house and liked the front and back porches. We also loved the original camp stove. Would highly recommend this place any time of the year. You will love reading the history of the property.
We will come back,.

The home was really spacious and the little beach was very nice to have with little ones! The creek is beautiful and we loved how it was shallow (good for swimming). Bringing the boat in the creek was challenging (pretty shallow). The home could use some updates (range oven, add smoke detectors for safety). I wondered a bit about mold and stuff with a home this old, but the history of it was neat! The beds were very comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay!
