About this cabin rental
Enjoy the private natural setting among boulders and native rhododendron in this favorite two bedroom two bath log cabin while still convenient to area attractions and amenities. Features hot tub, central AC, outdoor firepit and wood burning fireplace to accommodate up to six with a King master and a second queen bedroom each with their own private bath, plus room for up to two more on the sleeper sofa in the living room.
Welcome to Farallon, one our coziest Valle Crucis log cabin rentals. Surrounded by hardwoods and rhododendron and natural rock outcroppings, this cabin offers the perfect mountain hideaway. To step onto the covered side porch is to already disappear from the hectic world of deadlines and intrusions. The most pressing intrusion here is likely to be a chattering squirrel or the leaves dappling the light upon the pages of the latest best-seller.
To open the door and step inside is to be greeted by nature. The spaciousness of the floor plan is augmented by large windows flanking the magnificent wood-burning fireplace and rising all the way to the cathedral ceiling. With the clean lines of the furniture and the contemporary wrought iron light fixtures suspending from the ceiling offer unobstructed view of the forest outside every window.
The open dining area features seating for six and French doors that open onto the front deck equipped with a gas grill for preparing mountain trout freshly caught in the nearby Watauga River. Pristine modern appliances appoint the fully-equipped centrally located kitchen.
The living area features a comfortable seating area before the fireplace, a flat screen television, and a cabinet of books and games for relaxing after the day's excursions of canoeing and hiking. A telescope waits in the corner for gazing at stars light years away in the crystal clear skies. Hidden behind the kitchen are two bedrooms. The master offers a King bed and the second bedroom has a Queen bed, and each offers the rustic comfort of layers of patchwork quilts. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight for enjoying a lazy breakfast in bed.
A large covered deck stretches the entire front of the cabin, overlooking the surrounding rhododendron and large boulders. The deck is furnished with rocking chairs for after dinner snoozing and features a hot tub for soaking away the stiffness of overdoing it on the slopes while the snow falls around you or hiking up nearby Grandfather Mountain. Follow the path outside to your own fire pit for knocking off the chill after a summertime shower, roasting dogs and s'mores, and telling bear tales.
For larger groups, consider renting this cabin with nearby Black Bear Lodge or Van Beek's Peak.

Loved this place only thing would say needs to be mentioned is the driveway! Steep and tight turn!

Our family enjoyed spending the weekend in this home! Perfect for 4 people! Very clean and spacious. Nice wrap around porch with grill and hot tub!

Excellent property! Will stay here again!

This may be an older cabin but you will not find a cleaner one. Blue Ridge is awesome communicator. Weber grill on deck, classic older style jacuzzi 4 person hot tub on deck, two couches and nice fireplace. Only one neighbor about 4 acres away. Very private. Amazing sunrises and Mountain View’s from deck and living room. Loaded kitchen. Perfect for weekend. Hike from the home to the top of mountaintop- about .3 miles. Cons: no yard. Home on slope. Small driveway that required 4x4, 25 mins from any stores, one lane road to home (arrive in daylight only). Pro Tip- go to Kettle Brewery in Banner Elk - place is a dive but awesome brew. We will be back to this home.

We had a great time.

Wonderful experience! The cabin is cozy, very pretty and has everything you need. Feels very secluded in the woods, but close to Boone and lots of great hiking trails. Everything was very clean when we arrived and the hot tub was clean and ready to use. The only minor gripe is that the shower curtain was mildewed and the towels smelled like cigarettes, but everything else was immaculate. The grill was broken but kitchen well supplied. We will definitely recommend and will be back!

The cabin is absolutely wonderful. One of the nicer cabins we have ever been to (and there have been quite a few over the years). Nicely laid out and well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable.
Accessing is a bit of a challenge and it rained for our entire visit. This caused us enough concern with the not venturing out one day due to concerns about what shape the road up the mountain might be like (steep and slippery with all the rain).
The drive way is another thing that needs to be noted. Not really much room at the bottom to turn around which leads to either backing up the hill or trying to execute a muli step K turn and not running off the edge or into the large boulder on the other side of the drive.
If you're looking for a very nice place to simply go and relax this is a great option. If you're looking to get out and about to do things in the area it's a bit of a challenge coming and going.

Our trip was one for the books it was very relaxing the house was beautiful and exactly what we wanted for sure need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the drive up and the drive way

We've stayed at multiple cabins in the NC mountains that provide similar 4WD access recommendations without any trouble whatsoever, so admittedly we didn't put a lot of weight on this rather soft warming. That was a very BIG mistake; getting to this cabin requires a significant amount of focus and can be downright terrifying at night.
Otherwise the cabin indeed presents quite well: it's super-cozy, well- maintained, and really quaint. The wrap-around deck was nice, and there was effectively no traffic going past the cabin to disturb the peace.
Our only negative observation at the cabin itself was that the deck under the hot tub has settled a few degrees, so the tub is no longer level, and water runs over back when three normal-sized adults enter (while there's still plenty of empty space at the front). This was a little disconcerting at first, but we used it twice without incident.
We'd stay again, but not without driving the Jeep and certainly not in the winter.

The cabin was exactly what we wanted! I had a hard time finding a cabin that would accommodate our husky, family with kids, and a hot tub. This one checked all the boxes and did not disappoint. Yes, the road is a doozie to get up to the cabin but honestly that was one of our favorite parts. The ducks, deer, turkeys, chickens, were always out to greet our car as we traveled to the cabin and the kids loved it. The house was clean, kitchen was well stocked (could use a few more dinner plates) beds were cozy, view was amazing in the morning and evening. We even saw flurries in March! Also want to note this house SMELLED CLEAN. I have been in rentals that had an odor or felt musty. This one DID NOT. We traveled from the NC beach to the mountains and will travel back to this same house again. Thank you for the get away! Outings we took and I recommend: Alpine Coaster, Linville Caverns & Otter Falls

Beautiful views and layout of cabin. Bathrooms and main living area clean and in good shape.
Cabin is in need of a deep clean, very dusty everywhere that isn't easy to swipe with a quick cloth. Advertised a gas grill, but it ran out in the middle of cooking the pricey thick steak birthday meal. Had to finish them in the oven that started smoking as it is filthy. There were only 2 dinner plates, so we had to fill in with the few salad plates there, and paper plates for our sides. Accent light bulbs burned out, window blinds need mending and so on. Certainly not the ideal birthday meal and celebration we had envisioned based on the home's advertising.
Not sure who is overseeing the stocking and cleaning of BRMR properties, but someone, management staff and owners need to periodically take an inventory, of such things that most certainly will get used in a remote cabin such as this. Its upsetting to be already in the middle of cooking meals only to discover you don't have what you need and it's a good 25 minutes into town.
In the middle of the narrow path to the firepit, there was a rod sticking up a good 3 inches that should have been addressed and covered as it easily tripped us. I covered it with rocks so we could identify and walk around it. Again, lacking attention to detail.
I made Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals aware of these items and tho they did respond, no adjustment was offered nor voucher towards a future stay which I believe is warranted given the high cost of renting a home such as this. When paying over $200 a person per night, we expected more.

Definitely recommend renting.

This was our first stay at Farallon and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! It’s a bit of a challenge to get to…but a fun one! It was private and the views were beautiful! The cabin itself was just perfect for our family of 4. It was clean, well stocked with everything we needed and so comfy cozy! We would definitely love to stay there again! On a side note…we went to The Gamekeepers restaurant for dinner while there and it was on of the best restaurants we love ever been too! It’s a must from now on for sure!

Enjoyed our stay at Farallon for our 5 year wedding anniversary. Glad we read all the reviews to understand the remote location and the driveway situation. You definitely need a 4WD vehicle to access the property no matter what time of year. It snowed while we were there and it was absolutely beautiful! Saw lots of deer. We went out touring during the day, but made sure we were back before dark so we could see the driveway/cliff. Enjoyed our evenings cooking dinner, the fireplace and hot tub on the deck. The property is nice, but definitely dated.

The house was beautiful and had an amazing view but it is definitely tucked into the side of a mountain. A truck was tough to get into the driveway.
4.5
Once we arrived, our stay was perfect. Beautiful cabin with breathtaking views. However, you will definitely need chains / 4WD if there is snow or ice. Nettles Ridge is treacherous without proper equipment and the driveway is equally sketchy and no way to turn a car around except at the first landing.
NOTE to Owner: 2nd Bedroom fan is very noisy and should be replaced.
Other than that, again, the cabin is beautiful. Would rent again in a second! Bravo!

My husband and I went for Xmas vacation and were called at 230 on the Friday we were leaving to go to our original cabin to be told we can't get in there due to weather. They rebooted us into another cabin however there was a bad storm that had come in which in turn created many issues. When we arrived on12/23 our code did not work and we had to call emergency line for them to reset. They took 5 times to answer. Wegot in and no water pressure on main. Floor, heater was working until about 330p 12/24 then quit working, there was a leak downstairs, toilets wouldn't flush and there was no hot water. Rental agency stated they would be out to look at the heat and never called us back and did not show up. We were told they would be there by 11pm 12/24 no show... their solution was to give us space heaters if they couldn't fix the heat. No call no show. We left 12/25 in the morning due to no heat and negative temps outside. The house went from 70 degrees on 12/24 @3pm to 43 degrees 12/25 it was very unsafe. I understand the rental agency had many issues over the weekend but it took them all day to reach out on 12/26 and we were told we would have a resolution by Friday. All of this was unsafe and unacceptable.

The check in/lockbox process was easy and we were pleased when we arrived and saw how clean and beautiful the home was. We throughly enjoyed the hot tub and the porch with view for morning coffee. We loved the fireplace too; it made it so cozy. Our only issue was that we had added firewood to our contract and there was no firewood. We had bought some long burn logs on the way up to add but ended up using only them for the first two nights before the wood was able to be delivered. I did email the property manager and got a swift reply. In the future I would just pick up a couple bundles at the nearby gas station to make sure you have it so you can enjoy the fireplace as much as possible. We loved our trip and too soon it was time to go home! Looking forward to another stay at Farallon soon!

House was very well kept and clean. The views were beautiful and the hot tub was a great feature. The road to get to the house was a bit scary, but that was well advertised. Would definitely stay again, good centrally located for activities in Boone and Banner Elk

The cabin was very cozy. We loved using the fireplace. Everything is well stocked and very clean. Driveway was a little tricky. Would definitely want to come back.
We bought our Christmas tress from Sugar Ridge farm! Great selection and great prices!!

Pros:
-BEAUTIFUL views (in winter we had no leaves blocking)
-hot tub
-deck and rocking chairs were really nice to have
-quiet
-cozy
-nice tv and fireplace (wood burning)
-kitchen had pretty much everything we needed.
-bed was comfy and showers were nice.
-town at the bottom of the mountain had great restaurants and everything you would need.
-property management was very very responsive and helpful with recommendations :)
Cons:
DRIVEWAY. it is very concerning at night in the dark. We saw other reviews about the driveway but the description does not. You absolutely need 4WD and there is no space turn around at all. It is very narrow with a drop off ledge. It felt really unsafe and even for my pet. There is also no flat safe area for your dog really except for the drive areas.
FYI- driving up to the house in the dark is a little sketchy and has an abandoned van with a dead end sign makes you think you’re not going the right way but if you keep driving past you will get to the house 15 minutes up the mountains.
Overall we had a very relaxing and awesome time! Thank you

The cabin has everything, amazing fireplace and hot tube jacuzzi, comfortable double suites.

good. hot tub was excellent perk

A little bit tricky o the driveway but enjoyed the adventure to get there. everything you would expect in a mountain home
4.5
Perfect size for 2 people and dog
Driveway was difficult but you can back down it by the hairpin turn
Needed a bit more greenspace for the dog
4.5
The property feels very isolated and is quite the experience up the mountain to reach it. But overall the cabin had everything my family of 4 needed for a last minute weekend away. We enjoyed the views, the quiet and the hot tub.

Go High for a Great Week
Lovely time spent at the cabin. It gave us a chance to get away and get as much hiking in as we could. The cabin is just as described, has everything you need, and is a hideaway spot. Like another reviewer stated, It does take 15 minutes from the main road to get up the mountain to the actual cabin. We alternated between parking further up the drive and backing all the way down. Loved sitting on the porch! Suggestion would be to please, please thin the trees so there is a view. Right now, there’s a small window of mountain viewing. Very much appreciate that the dog was allowed to go. She had lots and lots of walks. Definitely recommend getting firewood. It just adds to experience. Enjoy!

Perfect for a peaceful retreat in the mountains.
My wife and I decided kind of last minute to take a weekend getaway in the mountains with some friends, and this cabin was perfect for what we wanted. It's very secluded (no neighbors in site), clean, cozy, and very well stocked. It takes approximately 15 minutes to get up the mountain, but it is a lovely drive and we did not mind it at all. Easy to find if you just follow google maps. There are some attractions and stores relatively near by (20ish minutes) and about 30 minutes from countless beautiful hikes with waterfalls, amazing views, wildlife, etc. We would 100% stay here again.

We had a wonderful time at this home. It was clean as a whistle and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen was very well equipped, which we took full advantage of. Quiet and secluded, which was particularly welcome when using the hot tub!

Check in was nice, simply an access code, very convenient.
Overall, it was an enjoyable stay, the hot-tub was nice, the house was clean & comfortable. Just some small things: A lot of cigarette butts in the driveway, centipedes that got into the house and had to be cleaned up off the floor, no yard--as in NONE.
Annoying, but overall, those things didn't make a huge impact on us. The driveway leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, it is on the side of the mountain, but another foot of clearance would be HUGE !

Quiet and beautiful
We had an amazing weekend away from the rush of the city. The hot tub was lovely with the beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. We honestly spent a large portion of our trip just lying in bed watching TV. I slept like a baby here. The driveway is a little scary and steep but other than that everything was perfect.

If your staying here be prepared to make a 15 min drive just to get up the mountain! Very nice cabin and well maintained. Shower heads need to be replaced, they're absolutely awful.
