Perfect location in the valley. Close to town centre and the lake with a bus stop right outside the hotel. Staff very friendly and willing to assist with stay/travel queries

I liked that the location is convenient, along the bus route, and the vicinity is quiet. Drawbacks are lack of eateries

🏨 Overall Impressions
I was incredibly impressed by this hotel. It exudes elegance and comfort, making for a memorable stay with excellent service and thoughtful accommodations.
🛏️ Rooms
The rooms are large and pleasant, providing ample space to relax. Though somewhat dated, they remain comfortable and well-maintained, with a charming decor.
♨️ Onsen Experience
The onsen was a highlight of my stay, offering indoor, jacuzzi, and outdoor options. The amenities, including hair supplies and makeup for women, were the best I've seen. A lot of care went into making this a luxurious and relaxing space.
🌳 Outdoor Facilities
The hotel’s yard is well-maintained and pleasant, even at night. The serene atmosphere is enhanced by the landscaping, though I wished the walking path was larger. Despite this, it’s a lovely place to stroll.
👩💼 Staff and Service
The staff were incredibly helpful. Although their English was not the best, they made a sincere effort to assist with any needs. Their dedication to excellent service was greatly appreciated.
🍽️ Dining
The food was a highlight. Despite many dietary restrictions, the hotel staff worked diligently to accommodate us. They created a special dinner menu and a suitable breakfast. Their efforts made our dining experience enjoyable.
👍 Conclusion
Overall, my stay was incredibly nice. The elegant comfort, exceptional service, and thoughtful amenities make it a standout choice. I highly recommend staying here.

Very nice hotel with a fantastic onsen.
Great location for exploring the area.
Plenty of restaurants although we only ate in one. The Azure Moon, Indian restaurant, it was very good.
There’s a supermarket and two 7-11’s and a Family Mart close by as well.
The Hakone Glass museum is only a few minutes walk from the Hotel and is definitely worth a visit. The buildings and grounds are worth visiting even if you don’t want see the glass exhibits.

The food and service in the restaurant were excellent. We enjoyed having good access to the Open AIr Sculpture Museum. Generally, the facility is in good shape but certain aspects need to be updated - such as the flooring, and some of the wallpaper in the common areas

The property was beautiful and spacious full of greenery. The staff were so kind and courteous respectful and accommodating. The breakfast food that we got every morning was either western or Japanese food and it was always delicious spot on. The onsen was amazing, there was an outdoor bath to melt away stress.

We stayed here with our rental car to explore and see Fuji. We could walk to a lot of cool restaurants. Drinks in the hotel bar were nice with the view of the hotel grounds and mountains.

I stayed in a room at the first floor of the main building. There was a musty smell that hits you when you open the door. It does get mitigated if you open the window but will return if you close the window. Also the room presented a very tired look and needs updating. The common area including the French restaurant looked good though. I can't recommend this hotel because of the room conditions

We had an enjoyable stay with my family. Hotel very well kept, staff fantastic, room big and well maintained, everything was great plus of course the onsen. Everything is perfect. Booking with hotel com is also a plus

Everything was good.
It's warm in the lobby and the reception is nice;
Hotel is near the bus stop, convenience store (5mins) and restaurant (10mins);
The room is neat and tidy and room size is big;
Onsen area is quiet. Breakfast is also included.
The hotel should add a washing machine and microwave.

Loved our short stay at the Highland Hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, and very well maintained property with excellent onsen. Will be back in the future.

The property has a rich legacy dating back to pre-ww2 times. It's quiet, decently maintained and the onsen is nice. If you have a car, worth considering

The staff is incredibly helpful and warm. The on-site onsen is amazing. The Hakone bus stops right out front, and it is cheap and takes you everywhere. Food at the hotel includes only one VERY expensive restaurant, but local eateries, a noodle house, Korean BBQ and Italian are within a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride.

Great hotel and beautiful grounds. Would definitely return again

Reception cannot speak English, we are sure they have onsen when book the room , but they mention no. After a long time checking, finally they mention due to typhoon, the onsen was out of order and closed. If we really need, we can drive about 45 minutes and pay about HK$300 per person to get another hotel can provide onsen service! Finally, we saw somebody was enjoying the onsen service, but they mention that is normal water! (very confusing us, as they said that there was closed, why somebody can still using it !) I was complaining why they did not send me message in advane that the onsen service was out of order, then I can change to the other hotel, they just don't know how to give me an answer. !!!
The breakfast was so boring, a big bowl of plain rice and small portion of fish and some vegetables.
afterwards we take a short walk around, just cross the road, we saw one place which can provide onsen service with a very low price!

The area is beautiful, the people wonderful, and it's very easy to take busses around.

A rather formal place with some French flair in a quite remote but beautiful location. We booked a premium room and it was enormous by Japanese standards. Despite remoteness, the Hotel is easily reached by frequent busses and is well situated visit the Hakone highlights. Only downside is that there re not many eating options nearby. The in house restaurant is excellent, but a bit pricey.

Overall very impressed! The food was massively overpriced ($100 USD for dinner) but there are some great options nearby. The onesen is glorious! One thing we struggled with was the smell of cigarettes coming into our room. Also like the rest of Japan the beds are short, small, hard and the pillows too few! The staff are very polite and considerate and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful spacious room. We picked a room with a private bath which was a treat. The staff were friendly and helpful and the dinner was delicious. The 2 day Hakone free pass is useful (especially if you plan on using the ropeway and or ferry) and includes the T bus which drops you off right in front of the hotel.

We had a lovely stay here. Nice and quiet, great staff, excellent onsen facilities (including the shower cubicles and change rooms!)
The area this hotel is in is very quiet and most restaurants close by 8pm. Lots of convenience stores around, though! Close to hiking trails if that's your thing - we walked to the trail head to climb up to Mt. Kintoki for a great view of Mt. Fuji. The hotel grounds looked amazing, although we didn't have enough time to explore. Our room even came with a pair of binoculars and a leaflet to guide you on a walk of the grounds.
Tip: It took us a while to get to the hotel coming from the Shinkansen Odawara station, but we discovered the very-convenient Odakyu Hakone Highway bus that stops right outside the hotel and takes you to Shinjuku station in Tokyo for 1900 Y.

The hotel grounds were very well maintained and provided a picturesque wallpaper visible from most of the hotel compound. Our room was a bit dated. It looked like there was another section that was more updated. The bus stop is just in front of the hotel. I enjoyed the public onsen experience here – spacious changing room, many shower stalls, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi and sauna all with views of the park. Dinner was served fine dining style in a very posh set-up. It was enjoyable even though the portions were small and some of the French-Japanese fusion a bit neither one nor there for us. There is a choice of Japanese and French options for breakfast. The hotel is next to the Venetian Glass museum (a should visit as well).

Friendly staffs, though they speak limited English. The location is a bit remote, yet the bus station is just in front of the hotel. Further, the hotel is in walking distances to the glass museum and little prince museum. The facility in the hotel is a bit aging.

Very nice hotel next door to the Venetian Glass museum. French themed hotel. Restaurant is a bit expensive, and there aren’t options in walking distance, so be prepared for that if you don’t have a car.
The spa and Onsen are really fantastic. Definitely take advantage.
The hotel staff are extremely helpful and kind, and if you’re worried they speak enough English to communicate fine.

Stayed in a standard twin bed room. The room was clean and large enough to relax. The large bath was very good. The food in the French restaurant was excellent. The only improvement could be the Japanese breakfast where the same ingredients (vegetables) were used in a few dishes (Takimono and Miso soup). Wanted a little bit more variety. Overall high value for money. Definitely will come back.
