The staff and place are great, the beds are very cheap so you won't have a great sleep. The hot breakfast could be better, but some of it is just not good.
The breakfast omelets and ham was very bad, the biscuits and gravy tasted old.

Friendly front desk staff and mgr
You can hear people walking g and running above your room. Rooms are not sound proof and I had terrible people playing g around in the 2nd floor through 1am.
I talked to the mgr and he immediately took care of the problem .

Loved the jacuzzi tub in our room! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My husband says he could tell the breakfast was made with love. Nice selection of bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, hot eggs, biscuits and gravy (delicious), yogurt, orange juice, cranberry juice, milk, and a 24 hour coffee bar. Pool was nice, just small. We ended up spending more time in the room jacuzzi. Room was fairly large and bed was comfortable. We had plenty of towels available.
Bathroom was a little tight quarters, room was a bit dated but could see that it had been partly updated. Curtains had a rip, and wall decor was old. Don't feel that paying extra for a balcony was worth it unless you stay on top floor because ac unit from room balcony above drips water on you while you're sitting in the chairs.

Didn't replace food when it ran out.
Our room wasn't ready and we weren't allow to use the pool while we waited.

Location was perfect. We wanted something in walking distance to Galena. 15 minute walk. Friendly staff!
Breakfast was just ok. Not bad though. We had to ask for more TP. Ours was almost empty and there was not an extra roll in our room. They brought it up right away.

Staff at the front-desk are very friendly, respectful, and professional. The location was great. Although not in the heart of downtown Galena, IL (i.e. Main Street), it was basically near Ulysses S. Grant's former home and 5min drive to the heart of downtown Galena. It's also by a gas station so that's a plus. If it wasn't for these qualities I think I would have rated this place a 1. Front-desk person tried to make amends for the inconveniences mentioned below but unfortunately water bottles and Hershey chocolate bars doesn't make up for it. Nice try though!
This place did not have an elevator so it is not handicap accessible. If you have heavy luggage it might be challenging to get up to the second floor if your room is on that floor. When we walked into our room it smelled a bit musty. Then I saw some shaved hair within the bathroom sink, smudges on the mirrors and fridge, and the room was dusty. This pointed to the fact that the room was not thoroughly cleaned. I am aware that Best Western is not an upscale hotel but at least strive to nail the basics of having a nice clean room. Finally, I was willing to overlook the aforementioned but what really disappointed me was the fact that on the third night I called front-desk and they entered my request to get the room made the next day since I thought that they would have automatically offered to get the room tidy-up on the 3rd day (please...COVID is no longer an excuse let's be honest here). The following morning I even called the front-desk and gave them a friendly reminder that we would be leaving the room for the rest of the day and that it would be free to get serviced by housekeeping. When we returned late that night, to our surprise, only the garbage was thrown out and the towels replenished. The room did not get vacuumed, wiped, nor did we get our bed linen changed in the entirety of our 5-night stay! We also had to go back to the front-desk that night because for the second time our two key-cards got demagnetized. This was probably not just a small case of bad luck since the very first day we checked-in as we entered our room, we saw two individuals trying to key into their room and one of them said "okay, if this doesn't work this time, I'm suing". This is indicative that your card programming machine is not fully functional. I know this might sound trivial but this adds to the pile of upsets. They tried to get us a new room but we were just so tired to move all of our stuff to our new room and we were checking out the next morning...

Location was amazing and the balcony was fantastic. Staff was extremely friendly (gentlemen in his late 20s or early 30s maybe a little younger) and was super helpful.
Pillows and blankets in the room were not amazing. Both were a little thin and a little small.
