Perfect for 2 days in centre of York but expect to climb those stairs!

Great breakfast bit slow but cooked to order. Fantastic location.

Being at the very top of the narrow house up lots and lots of stairs. We did get the last room so had no choice. Spotless, chic non fussy and very friendly.

Great location, lovely staff - accommodation only ok

Staff were lovely

Such a small and narrow bathroom, it was near impossible to dry yourself afterwards. I wish I had known this before and would have chosen to book a larger room if available.

Location is great, breakfast is good. Hotel is noisy from street, very hot rooms, paper thin walls. Restaurant can smell in hotel and bed is not comfortable, can not open windows

as per previous message. Bathroom and smell, windows. Noise from street and drunken people on the street by the window. Rude check in service.

Original and quirky hotel in central York

Galtres Lodge is ideally located in central York. It is old and quirky and full of charm. The staff were friendly, helpful and very accommodating . The breakfasts enjoyed by myself, my partner and my son were great. Would definitely go back.

Nice hotel but noisy location

Friendly staff, clean room and nice breakfast

Very noisy location as our bedroom faced the main street. We just didn't envisage so much shouting and loud talking late into the night through to the early hours of the morning!

I would highly recommend this place to stay cannot fault anything about it

The hotel was in a fabulous location, the accommodation was beautiful and the breakfast and afternoon tea was lovely. The staff were amazing especially Nita . Will definitely go back highly recommended.

First class, couldn’t really wish for more.

The location was perfect, we had a view of the minster from our room , the (included) breakfast was excellent and the staff were great.

There were a lot of steep and narrow stairs, can’t be helped, it’s an old building!

Rooms are exactly as described, Comfortable room size, quality bedding, excellent city location. Great breakfast, delicious evening meals reasonable prices for a city Center.

No parking on site, needed to park in local car park. All rooms up stairs, no lift. That’s it, every thing else was good.

The hotel itself was lovely just a little rough around the edges. The bonus for us was the restaurant just downstairs which we did have a great meal in and breakfast (although was cold) the next morning. The location was nice although don't stay here if you don't want to be woken by bin men at 4am luckily I wear earplugs. It was my partners birthday and there was a nice little surprise in the room for him which we did appreciate.

Our bathroom really needed updating . The tap on the basin wobbled, the shower door around the seals was actually quite dirty and the floor tiles were coming unstuck. The windows in our actual room wouldn't stay open (I know they were sash) but I think they are quite dangerous as one slam down and one of the window frames was completely rotten so that would of smashed completely. Just needed a little tlc

This small period hotel is ideally situated for exploring York with friendly staff.

Staff in hotel and attached resturant were very friendly and whenever anything was amiss (eg shower detached from support) it was immediately fixed. Hotel is ideally located for the Minster and other areas of interest eg (the Shambles). Breakfast was provided in the adjoining restuarant and was enjoyable although the choice was a bit limiting.

The room was on the small side but as we spent little time other than to sleep it was not an issue.

Fantastic location. Friendly staff. in pedestrian area so very close to York Minster and restaurants.

Windows need replacing. Secondary glazing can’t be opened. No air con so room could become in hot weather. Very steep stairs.

To be honest everything, staff are wonderful, hotel is cosy nice decor and a breakfast that is hard to beat. Lovely food, full Yorkshire English breakfast. Room rate Inc breakfast and location , the most central hotel in york is fabulous. Big thank you to all the staff.

Excellent location, really helpful staff, would recommend

Breakfast & evening meals were superb with accompanying level of service.

Our room overlooked the hotel entrance (forgot room number). The heating was off on arrival but the room soon warmed up. The bathroom, which still needs updating to a similar level as the rest of the room /hotel, had no heating at all and remained cold. This would not deter us from returning.

Room was really atmospheric (albeit slightly dated) in loft/roof with old beams. Also you need to be fit enough to climb 4 flights of stairs to get too.

The hotel had a nice relaxed feeling to it, the staff were excellent and it's a great location.

My wife and I loved the place.Some of the features we're a little tired, however they are making improvements and it doesn't detract from the hotel, its staff and its location

Location is fabulous. Hotel is small but the rooms are roomy, there is a handy restaurant attached with the best pancakes in the am. Staff was nice and helpful.

There are stairs but who needs an elevator when you are just around the corner from the Minster?

The location of the hotel was fantastic The breakfast was absolutely amazing The room was comfortable, nice comfortable bed and decor The restaurant and outside space was really nice Staff were all very friendly and helpful, excellent service from everyone

The TV in our room didnt work The bathroom was tiny.. a large person or tall person would have really struggled with the space the wardrobe was very small, not suitable for hanging long trousers
