We enjoyed the laid back quiet atmosphere. It was also nice to have a restaurant on site. The food was very good and the staff was friendly and made us feel at home.
Didn't like the noisy neighbors, especially when they were burning leaves right nest to our room.

It was very close to the beach and a beautiful property. The staff was amazing
The only downside was very little water pressure (water pressure was better in the early morning) and no hot water, but this was an eco lodge so this might be normal. We didn’t complain, this was just a small inconvenience that didn’t bother us much, but people might want to be aware if this is important for them.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Read the other negative reviews and this will give you a good idea of what the property is like.
IT IS NOT A 5 MINUTE WALK TO AVELLANAS! It is a 30 minute walk.
There are no amenities at the hotel with the exception of the restaurant that is only open a few hours every morning. The ONLY good thing about this property is that the staff at the restaurant are very nice.
THIS PROPERTY IS NOT LOCATED IN AVELLANAS AS ADVERTISED. IT IS ACTUALLY LOCATED IN PAYA LAGARTILLO!
This property misrepresents itself by saying it is a 5 minute walk to AVELLANAS. It is also a run down motel in the middle of nowhere. 2 STAR AT BEST!
When we realized how far we were from Avellanas we tried to check out early but were refused. THere was no responsibility taken by the hotel.
We were literally the only ones staying there. Loud construction every morning. The water went off. Front staff was un-accomodating.
Again READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS and do yourself a favor.

It's a very relaxing place with a nice pool. Staff is pleasant. Parking was plentiful. The bed was very comfortable. The property was nice and breakfast was good. The area is rural as one would expect. The road the property was a bit narrow by American standards, especially for a 2 way road. It was fine for my Jimny
Not the largest room I've stayed it, but it had a nice kitchenette, bed, shelving, etc.

good location for weekend surf trip to avellanas/playa negra , super comfortable bed, quiet and chill place to relax. not many people and nice garden area , good size room (queen bed) with little kitchen area
when we arrived no one was available to check us in even after messaging on WhatsApp and through booking, we ended up having to search the property for someone to help us , there was no coffee maker in the room we had to ask for that also, no one came to clean the room during our 2 night stay , the door to the bathroom could have offered more privacy

It was the off-season when I stayed at the resort, and I only stayed for one night. There was only one other couple staying at the resort the night I was there. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool was nice, but none of the facilities were open due to the off season. The beach is within walking distance from the resort.
I do not think that it said in the description that the restaurant and bar would be closed for the season. It was not a big deal but it would have been nice to have the information in advance. I could have picked some food up before arriving.

That the place has potential if taken care of properly.
My stay at Blue Zone Resort left me profoundly disappointed and dissatisfied. I confidently booked 8 nights. However, I have never encountered such an uncomfortable experience.
Upon arrival, the lack of advertised amenities and basic cleanliness was evident: Empty Coke bottles around the pool for days, open gates overnight, ash dirt between my pillows, very mouldy fridges, and closed bar+eatery were deeply disheartening.
The only little positive of my stay was being offered a "casita" upon arrival to accommodate my cooking needs, but it turned negative soon with the above-mentioned issues. The so-called "Resort" used this as an excuse to deny ANY refunds for the many serious issues encountered. Even if they hadn’t given me a place with a stove, I couldn’t have gotten food because their restaurant + bar were closed(opposite the adverting).
Their response to my concerns was disappointing. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff consistently attempted to shift blame onto external factors.
Persistent wet cigarette smell and mould affected my health, causing several allergic reactions, so I had to leave after the 3rd night. Despite requesting a refund for the nights I couldn't stay due to health hazards, the resort refused ANY compensation.
As a loyal customer of Booking.com, I expected better. The platform prides itself on providing seamless, enjoyable travel experiences but has failed to meet that. Their response was dismissive, offering an insulting $27 compensation of a $900 stay. The platform I trusted to advocate on my behalf did not take an active role in resolving any issues. I sincerely hope that my feedback serves as a catalyst for improvement and that future guests don't have to face a similar experience.
It is unacceptable to face health hazards and receive dismissive support and zero compensation after facing several issues.
I urge Booking.

The room was very spacious and everyone working at the property were very friendly. The pool and bar area looked nice as well, although we didn't make use of them while we were there. Walking distance to the beach down a couple of dirt roads is nice to have!
The property is a little difficult to get to. It is accessed through a very narrow and steep dirt road off of a larger dirt road. There are no signs on the larger dirt road indicating that the hotel is up the smaller dirt road which made it difficult to find. We tried calling a few times to confirm if we should be going up the narrow dirt road to find the property but there was no answer.
We told them ahead of time that we would be arriving around 8 or 9 pm. We got there at about 9pm and everything was closed down. The reception was closed and the property was completely dark except for a few lit pathways. Tried calling again, still no answer. I aimlessly wandered around the property for 15 minutes before I encountered the owner doing laundry in a building at the far end of the property. She was very nice and checked us in without any further issues.
We went during a holiday week, so the room was about $200 per night. While the room was spacious and generally well put together, I wouldn't call it a great value at that price.
We had breakfast there one morning, which was a very mediocre typical Costa Rican breakfast at about triple the price you'd pay elsewhere for the quality of food served. I've eaten thousands of these breakfasts in the 17 years I've been living in CR at all types of places, so I have a pretty good understanding of what the quality and price of these meals typically looks like. We didn't eat any other meals at the restaurant after that.
Finally, the parking lot is small for the number of guests that were there during my stay. It was a harrowing experience getting the car into and out of a parking spot when one was available, and several cars had to park outside on the street.

Beautiful room with fridge and AC
I really liked the pool and the free towels for the pool/beach
The hotel is a few minutes with the car from other restaurants and cafes and the roads are not very good (lots of potholes)

The staff were very lovely and helpful.
Unfortunately many of the services listed were unavailable. While the pool had what I would imagine could be a lovely pool bar, it was fully vacant while the other bar was very poorly stocked. This meant that enjoying a cocktail or smoothie by or in the pool wasn't possible and part of the reason we chose this more expensive option over cheaper nearby properties with slightly better location. The place has the potential but ultimately we wished we had booked a neighbouring property. Some food options came quite different to listed, like honey mustard dip being swapped for ketchup. Breakfast was offered at 10 dollars but there were extras when paying the bill. I assume new ownership in last couple of years may be related.

we came before the high season started and all the amenities on the website were really not available.

pool was nice
staff was missing. no full bar as promised, cleaners did not clean the rooms and then when we asked they Dias it was because we had to give them the key which they never had mentioned, restaurant had old food and barely anything that was on the menu. All very strange and a bit dystopian. Manager shows up and does. or care that we had no services and they were not up front about that. I do not recommend! stay anywhere else in Avellanas. Las Cabinas de Olas looked very nice and together!

Overaly our stay was very pleasant. The staff there, especially Tatiana was really helpful. First they cancelled one night for us, as I did the wrong booking, gave us a kettle when needed. Than she took over the bday cake for my boyfriend, let us stay after official check out hours. The surroundings are beautiful, the pool is refreshing and clean and the yoga space is really nice for movement. The beach was really close.
Overaly the accomodation needs some lift up. The water stopped once so no flushing etc. Once the toilet water was leaking. But to be honest, you are in more secluded part in Costa Rica so it is expected. During night the neighborhood dogs were barking a lot. The road to this accommodation is not for every car and should be repaired soon. The surfboards on site were pricey, considering you need to drag them on the beach, we rented boards at the Avellanas Surf School.

all green very cute little “village”
missing cleaning material in the villa, would have liked more towels etc. as well as we were 4 people and we only had 2 forks and knifes.

Beautiful outside area with pool and deck chairs. Room was very comfortable with small table, chairs and fridge. Nice staff. Available additional towels for pool and beach.
Relatively high prices in the bar.

We loved Blue Zone so much that we ended up extending our stay twice for a total of 18 days! The staff was very friendly. Maria (the manager) was awesome! The place was clean, well laid out, super relaxing, quiet. The king-size bed was amazingly comfortable. The pool was beautiful and perfect for our little one. Lovely landscaping. The resort was built fairly recently, and very well maintained. The loose-leaf tea & coffee station was a nice touch. Can't wait to come back again soon!
Would love to see yoga classes offered at the beautiful yoga shala, whether complimentary or for a fee. Yoga would have made our stay even more perfect. The yoga shala at the hotel is beautiful, and it would be a shame if it goes unused.

This is a really cool hotel, it's got a nice relaxing vibe. I travelled alone and felt very safe all the experience, and noticed other solo travelers being comfortable. However, I also saw families even with kids. The hotel is pretty cool. Would definitely return.
The hotel didn't have breakfast, the beach close by is not nice, you need to go to Avellanas (make sure you rent a car, or drive) and they double charged me (however, with an amazing turn around time they payed it back to my account, this was impressive).

The location is beautifully designed and very relaxing and peaceful. Staff was very helpful and responded to every need.
The food was SPECTACULAR! The kitchen staff was quick, responsive to special tweaks and the dishes were delicious.
A little bit of a walk to the beach. 5 minutes across the road. Great when you got there.

The spicy margarita was AMAZING! The breakfast was also really really good. I didn't care for the fish tacos (the fish was not great, but the rest of the meal was good). While the pool is small, it was everything we needed since there aren't a ton of people staying at once. The property manager and her dog were so nice :)
I didn't care for the fish tacos (the fish was not great, but the rest of the meal was good). The rooms were clean and the AC worked well in each room, but the wind was whipping so much all night that we barely slept. Maybe an issue with the windows and noise cancellation.
