About this apartment rental
Updated 2 bedroom town house or condo just moments away from Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leelanau Wine Trail, Bike Trails and so much more! Located at Sugar Loaf in central Leelanau County near Cedar, MI. Enjoy the National Lakeshore or Sleeping Bear Dunes from our location. Depending on summer traffic Sugar Loaf is 15 minutes from Glen Arbor, 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Traverse City & 10 minutes south of Leland!
We have been visiting and vacationing in Leelanau County and the region for many, many years. Close friends purchased an unit (E#5) which is VRBO #859336 at Sugar Loaf 9 years ago.
We so loved the location that we purchased our town house in December 2017. Since then we have completed extensive renovations and updates. As with any "home" there is always more to do.
Our kitchen remodel includes new cabinetry, quartz countertop, and all new Frigidaire Gallery appliances: dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and convection stove with a smooth cook top. We have tried to make our unit welcoming, fresh and give you a feel for the Leelanau "life". The flooring through-out the first level for ease of upkeep is a barn wood style vinyl laminate. Above the gas fireplace is a 50" Samsung flat screen television. Not that you will have much time for tv. The first level also includes a half-bath, a counter height round table with seating for 4, plus we have 4 stools at the counter for additional seating.
We offer WIFI & two Smart televisions.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a king bed (master) and one with a queen bed. There also is the option of an Aerobed queen size mattress. It is easy to inflate & deflate. Each bedroom has private bathroom. There also is a Samsung television and cable box in the master bedroom.
We have freshened up the two bedrooms with new comforters, bedding, towels, etc. each also has a hair/blow dryer. There is an iron and ironing board in the master bedroom closet.
Outside the sliding glass doors we have a small patio area with a KitchenAid gas grill, side table, small table with umbrella, 6 chairs and a view of the pool. Grilling accessories are available in the storage closet.
FYI: There is a no charcoal grills and no fire pits policy at Sugar Loaf. This is specified in the Sugar Loaf Association's By-Laws.
We also are fortunate to have the patio flanked by two beautiful shade trees. The pool is open seasonally and guests are provided an access code. There are multiple beaches nearby including Good Harbor Beach when you would like to get some sand between your toes.
Sugar Loaf has a near by golf course, & hiking.
The Leelanau area is a biking paradise and this year there are racks to store your bikes near the units.
Pets: As much as we love pets, we are declining all requests to bring pets. Additionally,
the Sugar Loaf Association's By-Laws, don't allow.
Smoking: This is a no smoking unit and that includes the space outside the unit. This includes e-cigarettes, etc.
Washer - Dryer: As of March 2019, we have a full-size stackable Samsung washer & gas dryer in the downstairs closet. Laundry pods and dryer sheets provided, as feasible.
Parking: There is a large parking lot so if you are traveling with a boat, pontoon, camper or trailer there is available parking.
More Details:
Assorted kitchen spices, herbs, cooking supplies are in the cupboards. The fridge contains basic condiments too. It seemed easier to provide Costco size ketchup, relish, mustard versus every guest bringing their own. Fresh herbs are available (as they survive) in small pots on our patio.
Small Appliance's Available: Keurig (pods are not provided), Cuisinart Insulated Coffee Maker (coffee on your own), Oster Blender, Cuisinart Hand Mixer, Cuisinart Mini Food Chopper, toaster and electric griddle.
Beach and Pool Update: The pool will is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend.
As of this time we have several beach towels and a beach mat. However, no beach chairs or sand toys available.
Questions, please don't hesitate to connect via email, text or phone. We can provide lots of information, guidance and years of visiting the area experience. We also have several close friends who live year round in the region and are a wealth of information.
Visit and enjoy the Leelanau region from our centrally located town house.
Warmly,
John and Sheila Urban Smith

Our family had a great stay. The condo was clean, comfy and well stocked. It’s also very close to the pool. The owner was great about communicating. We were less than 30 minutes from the dunes, Fish Town, Traverse City and Lake Michigan. Would definitely return!

We loved the unit - clean, comfortable, everything we needed. Big bedrooms, comfy beds. We’d love to stay again.
The location was the true gem - close to Glen Arbor, Suttons and Leland and just a stones throw from everything else. We loved sandwiches at the Chees Shanty in Leland, fish tacos at The Cove, breakfast at the Hive in Suttons, and pizza at Millie’s in Glen Arbor. We love this special area!
Great communication from the hosts - they went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable.

This was the perfect location for our summer getaway. The townhouse is clean and comfortable, with all the amenities you could need or want. It was quite hot while we were there and the air conditioning was a blessing. The pool was gorgeous and refreshing. The hosts asked several times if we needed anything additional and made sure all was well throughout our trip. Can't recommend more highly. A wonderful place to stay.

We had a great time on the peninsula enjoying the sites and visiting wineries. The condo at Sugar Loaf was perfect for the four of us.
The condo was well stocked, clean and Sheila was very good at answering any questions and proving recommendations for the area.
The location worked well as everything is easy to get to and Fishtown is less than 10 minutes away.
We would definitely stay here again when we come up North.

Very much enjoyed our stay. Condo was well maintained and clean. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed to make a couple full meals. Neighborhood quiet and nice location to head in many directions (Leland, Sleeping Bear, Traverse City, etc). Host was very accommodating and happy to share local restaurant recommendations and things to do. Very responsive to questions. It was obvious the owners took pride in their property and being a gracious host. We would definitely recommend and/or stay at this property when we return to Traverse City area.

We had an amazing stay and really appreciated how well equipped the property was! Everything we needed during our stay was provided.
The location was ideal for exploring the Leelenau Penninsula and the owners provided a binder full of information about the area and activities.
The communication with the owners was great and they were super helpful before and during the stay.
Highly recommend!

The four of us were in the area for the wedding of our niece at French Valley Vineyard. The location was perfect. We enjoyed the Heritage Bike Trail at Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Leelanau Bike Trail from Suttons Bay to TC.
We have stayed in many VRBOs and this one was head and shoulders above the others. Highly recommend.

Sheila is a true hostess and provides more than just a place to stay; offering suggestions for activities and even a bottle of wine upon arrival. You can tell she loves the area and wants guests to enjoy their time in northern MI.

Lovely condo, all top amenities, immaculate. Love the location. Close to everything yet off the beaten path. Peaceful surroundings. Grandson loved the pool! It has become our home away from home. Thank you Sheila and John for sharing your condo. Will be back next year!

The townhouse was perfect for our trip to go boating in the area. There was plenty of parking, including extra large spaces for the boat trailer. Everything was clean and comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool for afternoon and evening swimming. Sheila was very helpful and gave us plenty of area recommendations for restaurants and places to visit.

So many positives that I don’t know where to begin!
First of all, the overall feel of the condo was very welcoming and felt like home. The tasteful decor and the beautiful artwork and decorations representing the Michigan/Leelanau area made for a cozy stay. My daughter loved the candle selection and lit a different one each evening.
Second, the place was very clean and spacious for my family of 4. We had plenty of room in the bedrooms even after inflating the provided air bed in the 2nd bedroom. There was ample closet space and plenty of hangars. The bed linens and towels were high-quality.
Third, many travel necessities were provided. The kitchen was fully equipped with dishes, pots, pans, cookie sheets, kitchen gadgets, spices, etc. which allowed us to prepare breakfast/brunch before we headed out the door for the day. Plus, my kids could prepare late-night snacks! The bathrooms had soaps, shampoos, and conditioners all stocked for your use. Beach towels, extra pillows, and blankets were provided. It was great having a full-size washer/dryer with Tide pods and dryer sheets ready for our use.
Fourth, there were travel guides and pamphlets of the area to look through. One that was especially helpful was a guide that had sticky-notes on it with comments of likes/dislikes. Plus, there were books about Michigan and the area that my husband found interesting to read. The jigsaw puzzles were fun to tackle. We did them as a family at night. Be sure to try the wooden one with the intricate pieces!
Lastly, communication with Sheila was top-notch. She provided recommendations and responded in a timely manner. She is very friendly and truly cares that you enjoy your stay!
Overall, we would stay there again if we are in the area. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Home away from home!
My family gets together in the area every year, so we've stayed at a number of properties nearby. Staying at Sheila & John's condo was a delight! It felt like home. Everything from the big (cleanliness, looking as advertised) to the small (well-appointed kitchen with spices, nice dishes, and cooking utensils in great condition) was wonderful.
I highly recommend anyone considering staying here to do so.
Thank you Sheila & John for helping make our stay a great one.

Fun Family Vacation
Shelia and John have an amazing place. The location is great, about halfway between Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes. The condo was well equipped and Sheila was great with communicating ahead of time and offering suggestions. There was a pool onsite which was great for a couple of hot days. This has been one of our most favorite vacation rentals and we would come back in a heartbeat!

This property was beautifully updated and in a perfect location between Traverse City and several adorable little towns like Glen Arbor. The townhouse is less than 100 steps to a pool on the property and has all of the amenities and cooking items for us to make dinner several nights.

We truly enjoyed our recent stay at John & Sheila's townhouse at Sugarloaf. Their patio probably has the best location of all the condos and it is especially close to the pool. We had so much fun communicating with John & Sheila (texting) learning about their tastes, decorating choices, and recommended attractions in the area. The location is a bit remote, but right in the middle of many great attractions...Good Harbor beach (for sunrise and sunsets), Glenn Arbor (Cherry Republic &river tubing), Leland (Fish town & Verterra Winery), Lake Leelanau, wine trail, Suttons Bay and more. Do not miss dining at Little Travis Inn and Nittolo's. Buy bread at 9 Bean Row, best smoked hot dogs and sausages are at Bunting's Cedar Market and Gabe's Country Store., and play golf at a half dozen locations in Leelanau County, including Sugarloaf Old Course. The nearby ski resort facility is abandoned and an eye sore, but it is being demolitioned this fall so the view north and west should improve. Sugarloaf Town Houses are not effected by the demolition project; however, the area should only improve in the future. The townhouse was very quiet and comfortable. We'll stay their again in the future!

It started with great communication with the owners. Then we got to the condo and it was clean and had everything you could ever need. Another plus was the location. We had lakes, trails, beaches, shopping, and great restaurants near us. Needless to say, this was a wonderful vacation.
