Beautiful location on Hoopers Bay. Peter was a very friendly and accommodating host. He had a lot of very useful suggestions and advice. It was a nice, relaxing place to stay !

The location of this property is perfect. Steps from hoopers bay, a short walk or drive to the grocery store. Our room had everything we needed. We can’t wait to go back.
Owners are so helpful and friendly!
My absolute best vrbo experience so far.

We came to relax and to get away from busyness of life. My husband was able to work on his book, and i was able to relax, swimm, read books, take photos and get ideas to photograph and to paint. The place that Peter and Betty provide is perfect for it! On one of the walks on the beach I had an encounter with turtle and dolphin! Its one of the most relaxing places we ever stayed in. The wifi is a bit slow at times, but for me personally it wasn’t an issue.
I can truly recommend this place with all of my heart!

Relaxing Stay on Hooper’s Bay
We enjoyed our stay at Sandy Palms on Hooper’s Bay. Peter and Betty were always very kind and helpful, providing updates on COVID travel guidelines throughout our trip. They responded quickly to messages and questions. The studio apartment was as described and pictured; it’s an efficiency studio on the best beach in Exuma. It was the perfect home base for us as we like to explore, hike, swim, snorkel, kayak, and go boating while we are on island. It was so nice to start and finish each day by swimming with the turtles and relaxing by the calm waters on the beach. Peter provided a car rental for us during our stay and arranged our transportation to and from the airport which makes arrival and departing so much simpler. We typically made our own small breakfasts and snacks and ate lunch or dinner out. Our restaurant favorites: Santanna’s, Julian’s Jerk Shack, Blu, Rusty Anchor, Paul’s Fried Chicken (PFC), Mom’s Bakery, Chat n Chill, and Peace n Plenty. Be sure to check out Out Island Explorers for kayaking and sailing.
Thank you Peter and Betty for a relaxing stay!

Steps from torquise paradise
This property is in the PERFECT location on the island. Located in Hoopers bay, you walk in your "backyard" to the beach and are greeted with the best part of the island for sea turtles. We were able to hand feed turtles right in the ocean.
The property itself is about 10 minutes from downtown and within 20 minutes of all the most popular destinations on the island (north and south).
The hosts were phenomenal and incredibly accommodating.
Highly recommended.

This place was awesome!
I absolutely loved my stay at Sandy Palms. It was as shown. A cute little place perfect for just the two of us. Yes, it is the bare necessities, but who is staying inside? The outdoor seating was so relaxing. Our neighbors were awesome. It was right there on the beach, so you could come and go as you pleased. The turtles were out in the bay every day. I absolutely loved snorkeling with them. Over all Great Exuma was a wonderful place to explore and I felt very safe. I plan to come back every year or as much as I can. I also look forward to bringing my whole family and staying in the main house. It's absolutely the best vacation I've ever had.
I cannot say enough about Peter. He was so nice and helpful with out stay. He even had a car for us to explore the island, which really is a must because there is so much to see. As for walking places, you can do that but the main road is very busy.
Helpful Hints: Buying food and essentials can be expensive, so pack the necessities when you can; coffee, creamer, bug spray, baggies, snacks if you can.
The only complaint I would have is in our unit there was not a freezer large enough to store ice well. Bring big baggies to break down bags of ice to put them in the dorm size fridge.

Paradise
My daughter (14 years old) and I stayed 7 nights at Sandy Palms. From the moment we arrived I knew I made the right decision on 1) selecting Exuma 2) selecting Sandy Palms. My daughter and I travel often but this was our first International trip alone and I was a little nervous traveling alone. Let me just say I have never felt safer. The locals are extremely friendly and so eager to assist. I have traveled to many islands and one of my pet peeves is the vendors on beaches and everyone approaching to sell their crafts. This is not an issue in Exuma. Not once were we approached nor did we see vendors. The beach house was exactly as described and very clean. The beach was amazing. We especially enjoyed interacting with the sea turtles. A rental car is a necessity. We rented a small Jeep from Peter which was perfect for beach hopping. When we arrived we were greeted by Peter who explained where stores and local points are interest are located. He was more than happy to assist in any aspect.
Exuma is an amazing place. The beaches are amazing and most of the time we were the only ones on the beach or maybe one or two other families. I highly recommend checking out Forbes Hill Beach. This beach is beyond beautiful. Also, check out CocoPlum Beach for the swings and searching for sand dollars at low tide. We found many sand dollars and saw 20-30 starfish. I do recommend bringing snacks if you have room in luggage because food is extremely expensive in Exuma. Would we go again to Exuma? Absolutely! Hopefully we will make another trip soon and will certainly stay at Sandy Palms.

Very clean and Peter, the owner was very nice and accommodating!
We had a beautiful ground floor view of Hoopers Bay! It was a bit small for us, but we made it work. We could hear other our neighbors at times but it wasn’t anything to really complain about. We were very happy with our stay on Hoopers Bay. We were just steps away from visiting the turtles! They were very active around 9am. We had a great trip! Thank you Peter for making sure we always had clean towels! ;)

Very clean and everything we expected from the reviews we read.
We loved our stay at Sandy Palms. The central location was perfect, one day we explored north to Coco Plum beach and the next day south to Topic of Cancer beach. We loved Hooper Bay, it was beautiful and the green turtles were fun to swim with. Peter was a wonderful host, always made himself available for any questions you had and made you feel very comfortable. We would not hesitate to come back in the future.

Exuma Paradise found on Hoopers Bay!
The property delivers exactly as VRBO describes. It’s small and economical for 2 people, equipped with bedroom, bath and kitchenette. I must add that the studio is well maintained and extremely clean. The highlight of the rental is its location on a “private access only” beautiful secluded sandy beach. Exuma paradise found! The owner, Peter, is extremely welcoming and helpful with island information and made us feel right at home and comfortable. Definitely take advantage of your car rental through him as well. Will definitely return and probably rent one of his larger properties.

Beautiful Vacation
We had a wonderful time at Peter's+ Betty's property at Sandy Palms. It was our first trip to Bahamas, and we absolutely loved it! The Sandy Palms studio is in perfect location right on Hoopers Bay. We had the beach to ourselves on most days. We walked out of the studio right onto the beach with white sand+ turquoise water. We said hello to the turtles that are residents of Hoopers Bay every morning! We used the cayaks (come with the property) to further explore the bay. Peter was very helpful with arranging the pick up/ drop off from the airport+ showing us around+ answering our many questions about the Islands. The butcher, grocery store, and the liquor store are walking distance (about 10 min). We also rented the car from Peter for 3 days and did some exploring on our own (Tropics of Cancer Beach). We also took 1 day trip to see the swimming pigs (Robert's Island Adventure). We had such a wonderful time+ miss it already! THANK YOU Peter+ Betty, it was pure magic!

A little slice of heaven
My husband and I had an amazing week at Peter and Betty's place. We chose Exuma for some much needed rest and relaxation and that's exactly what we got. I really can't say enough about Peter. The morning after our arrival Peter came by to give us info about the island. He wanted to find out what was most important to us while we were there so he could steer us in the right direction. He and Betty were quick to respond to any questions and even lent us their personal snorkeling gear after forgetting ours at home.
The studio was clean and although small had everything we needed. Be sure to pack some snacks and condiments from home if you plan to eat in as these can be expensive on the island. Smitty's is a short walk away and has most things you might need.
Walk outside your door and the beach is just a few steps away with the most beautiful crystal clear water I've ever seen. Don't miss swimming with the turtles! They swim between the 2 docks all day but we found they are most active between 830 and 930 am. The are quite friendly and curious. The kayaks were a nice thing to have when the water was calm. Not much to the left but if you paddle to the right coast you will find some little secluded beaches to stop at and swim. Just around the bend the water gets a little choppy but nothing we couldn't handle and the view was beautiful.
We mostly stayed close to home but ventured out to Stocking Island for a day trip. The Chat and Chill had yummy food and drinks and we had the opportunity to swim with some of the resident sting rays. It got a bit crowded later in the day which was fun for a short time but we preferred the seclusion of our beach at Hoopers Bay.
The best local food we had was at Eddie's Edgewater. I had the crack conch and it was huge and delicious. Just remember, your on island time so service reflects that, plan to stay a while. This is not a fancy place so if that's your thing, skip it. However, if you like hanging with the locals, friendly staff and great food, this is the place! We had some drinks at Island Boy Cafe and relaxed on the outdoor deck which was very relaxing. Our other favorite place was the Fish fry. We ate at Shirley's twice and loved it. If your looking for a fun night out check out the fish fry on Friday nights. Music, food and locals, such a good time! There were also some other places that had music on certain nights but we didn't plan ahead and missed out on those.
Thanks again Peter and Betty!!!

Not Really...OK, Really.
The title reflects our reluctance to expose this beautiful island.
There are none of the usual trappings associated with the typical tropical destination. We did not have cell phone coverage but had Wi-Fi in the room. We found it amusing when the Starbucks app would alert us to a double star day given the complete absence of any such commercial business.
If you like nightlife, shopping, walking around, bike riding then you will be disappointed. The island has very few of these activities. The roads are terrible, full of pot holes, with no real place to ride a bike.
If however you like pristine beaches, sailing, fishing and meeting the local population you will love this island. My wife and I could not have been happier with the beach experience.
Peter is an excellent host and will go out of his way to educate you on what to see. He will show you one of two local stores, the town center and how to drive on the wrong side of the road. If you need something just ask and he will be quick to offer an option.
We stayed in the one bedroom studio which was well mintained but certainly small. If the weather is bad you will find it a bit confining. My wife and I ventured out in the car the one day it rained to pass the time. The one bedroom unit has the advantage of windows that open to the water so you can listen to island sounds, feel the cool breeze and listen to the surf. You will have the necessities but if you are looking for a 5-star suite this is not it. Despite the size you cannot beat the location. You are steps from the water and beautiful beach at Hoopers Bay. The position of the bay helps reduce the ocean winds which were quite strong on other beaches.
I'm running out of words for this review so let me end by saying we will absolutely be back. The water is crystal clear, beaches beautiful, people open and welcoming and Peter is an excellent host. The only thing we'd do differently is stay a little longer.
Thank you Peter for being wonderful host and offering such helpful advice. You certainly know the island and offer your guests first rate service.

Amazingly Perfect
This place is a gem!! If you are looking for a quiet, safe, beach vacation, this is it! Peter was amazing and was incredibly helpful, even down to arranging our rides to and from the airport. He place is clean and well maintained. The shower is small as stated in other reviews, but it's not a negative by any means.
Peter left maps and went over anything we had questions about. We took the full day tour on 4C adventures. It was nice, and the people were friendly.
We rented the car for the week from Peter and he gave us a little tour of the area so we knew where the markets were and some local dinner spots and a few beaches nearby. The market in Georgetown had more of a variety but its further of a drive than Smittys or Prime meats.
He is spot on with his information of the area. We ate at Shirleys a few times and Peter told us to get there before 6 and he was correct. They got busy almost immediately after we arrived. Another fun spot called the Hangout, it had a nice view and cool atmosphere. We went to several beaches but our favorite was right out the front door. We kayaked all around! Calm, clear and the most beautiful water I have ever seen. We really also loved the Tropic of cancer beach but there is no shade there... so be prepared. The little sand flies ate us up, so use your bug spray and stay where there is a breeze. With that being said, we slept every night with the windows open and had NO problems with them inside the unit.
We also went to Stocking island to Chat and Chill. Pretty social place but mostly people partying and I found a lot of trash in the area. Everyone was friendly though. It was a short water taxi ride over to the island.
We are actually planning on coming back and staying in another one of Peters unit, but this time, we want to bring the kids.
We travel a lot and this is one of my favorite places. If you are looking for luxury this isn't the place for you. But if you want a great beach, steps from your door, and a comfortable clean place to stay with a helpful "local"(Peter has lived there for many years!!) to help you plan your holiday, then this is the place for you!!
Thank you Peter for our amazing anniversary trip! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Hopper's Bay!
I am giving this a 5 Star. The location of this property makes it worth it 100%. You walk 100 feet to a great beach and beautiful blue water. Smitty's is 10 minute walk and a butcher shop is close to the same. We learned that the wind makes alot of difference in Exuma. We loved the beach 100%. We stayed 2 weeks and another property which was very windy, so pay attention to the winds when staying in Exuma. This property is calm which calls for great swimming and turtle watching. Peter is a great GEM also, he helped us with car rental and all the sights in Exuma, a total plus! The studio is pretty much what you would expect. Shower is a little small, it needs more cooking utensils but those things will not hamper your stay in any way. There are other properties in Sandy Plams so you have other options. The owners service to their guests is off the charts! If you rent this property and plan to cook in alot, bring an extra large pan. Its a little expensive in Exuma, so we cooked alot. Peter also has vehicles for rent, you need to rent a vehicle a few days and explore. We loved Elizabeth Harbor, Tropic of Cancer beach, Santana's restaurant, and end of the road beach where we seen string rays, star fish, and other wild life. Hopper's bay has turtles so that was also great. We spent multiple days at the beach all day. Lastly, you need to rent a boat and explore stocking island and the area, it was awesome. Bring bug spray, suntan lotion, and plenty of cash. Patricia was a great chauffeur, and Montel from Sugarland tours was AWESOME! Montel caught us some fresh lobster! I would rent this property 100 percent again and have a great vacation, we have been to some great islands and beaches but Exuma is a hidden gem, it willnot disappoint! I promise... Oh ya and did I mention that everyone we came across was super nice and Exuma has almost ZERO crime, we slept with the doors open all week. In my opinion LOCATION is number ONE and this location is AWESOME! Thanks Peter!

Hidden Gem
All previous reviews seemed too good to be true but they are all 100% accurate! The photographs are very accurate, one of the most beautiful beaches on the whole island really is on your doorstep and it is relatively deserted most days. Peter and Betty are fantastic hosts as others have said, always there if you need anything but also give you your own space. One thing other reviews didn't mention was that (In July/august) the sun rises on the patio pretty late in the afternoon. This was particularly great for us as we aren't early risers and were still able to enjoy a nice late breakfast outside in the shade.
You'll find lots of amazing things in the water if you love to snorkel, overall we saw many different types of tropical fish, crabs, starfish, barracudas, turtles and even a giant, mamma turtle all in the bay. We didn't even have to look very hard, so many amazing sea creatures on your doorstep.
The apartment is essentials only but you won't need anything else - you'll be amazed at the recipes you can cook with just a stove top, get creative! The shops are pretty close however 5-10minutes can feel like an eternity in the hot sun - a car definitely helps in these situations. It was very easy to rent the car for a couple of days from Peter and Betty, stock up the apartment fridge, see others parts of the island and then spend the rest of the trip on your beach sans car.
Some of the best food we ate was at Santana's and Catch A Fire, both a short car journey. We also did attempt to make the 20 minutes walk to the nearest restaurant at night which was quite safe to do (in fact we were offered lifts by locals both times) but be aware you'll need a torch as there are no street lights and little pathway - just be safe!
Overall, we were extremely pleased with our trip, if you're looking to experience real island life in a rural paradise, you'll love it!

Very Nice place.
Little studio in a villa. The villa is on the beach. The studio was furnished with air conditioning. You feel like the last people on the earth, as I wanted. The beach is wonderful with turtles. I really recommend for quiet vacation.

Wonderful time!
What a wonderful location! Hooper's Bay is most beautiful, the beach clean, soft white sand, a calm bay and you can see turtles swimming in the bay! The house and the studio we had are well maintained. We cooked almost every night and the kitchen was well equipped for that. There are sunbeds on the beach and picknic tables in the garden, so we enjoyed our breakfast and sundowner there almost every day. Betty and Peter are very helpful and offered good recommendation, thanks again to them for everything! We had a wonderful time and would definitely choose the house again!

Quiet beautiful beach, amazing sunsets, lovely owners
Our stay at Betty and Peter Oxley’s Sandy Palms apartment was exceptional. By far the best part of the vacation was the beach on Hooper’s Bay in front of the property. We spent days relaxing on the beach, kayaking and paddle boarding on the crystal clear waters, and snorkeling with the fish and turtles near the shoreline. It’s a perfect beach for ending the day with sunset walks and reclining under the brilliant stars.
It’s a fairly short walk to the local grocery store for food and beer supplies, which helped keep our dining costs down. The restaurants are also a bit further away and would require a car or taxi service, as there are no bicycle rentals available. Peter was very accommodating with transportation. He gave us an informative tour just after our arrival to familiarize us with the local stores and restaurants. Shirley’s was a good one; the mixed seafood was delicious. He later brought us a car to rent for a day of exploring the island and also arranged for transportation to a full day’s tour out to Thunderball Grotto. We were able to visit many of the places that had been recommended, including Santana’s for lobster and grouper, and Chat & Chill for delicious conch salad, fresh from the sea. We got to pet some sting rays and hand feed them our left-overs.
Peter also helped arrange a great snorkeling trip for us to a small island, Fowl Cay. It served as our private beach for the morning, to relax on between snorkeling forays. Both the beach and the undersea life were gorgeous - highly recommended!
With all of the great things to see and do, though, we would have to advise any visitors to do what we did for the last few days we were there- simply stay “home” at Hooper’s Bay and enjoy the beautiful scenery on display right in the back yard. Pick up some snacks and beer at the store, and enjoy long relaxing days on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

when dreams come true.
My husband a good friend and I have just returned from our trip to Exuma, a beautiful island from the most beautiful beach I've ever seen.
We spent eight nights at "On the Beach" Studio at Sandy Palms, just a few meters from the sea. Everything was fantastic ..... Sandy Palm overlooks a beautiful, quiet bay in which live giant tortoises that can gently swim with you. The studio is well equipped with everything you can need. But first of all Peter was fantastic: he received us warmly , for a few mornings he met with us to give all the information that could need to find the best beaches, the best restaurants, and small tips on how to get around an island you do not know.
Exuma is an island that must be seen and Peter and Betty are the perfect owners of a place where to stay.
We returned in Rome since few days and we already miss the quiet, the beauty of the sea, the white beaches and much more.
Thanks to Betty and Peter for making our holiday extra special. Francesca, Franco and Attilio.

Beautiful beach...perfect location!
Just returned home a few days ago and we can't stop thinking about how wonderful our 9 nights at Sandy Palms was! We stayed in one of the studio units and it was exactly as it was pictured and described online...everything was there that we needed to prepare our light meals and it was very clean. Peter and Betty were excellent to work with from the start of our decision process to the end as we waved good bye. The beach was gorgeous with white soft sand and clear turquoise water that we just couldn't get enough of! The location was perfect also, a short 10 minute walk to Smitty's for groceries with a liquor store next door. We took advantage of renting a car from Peter and very much appreciated his suggestions for touring beautiful Exuma, Little Exuma and Stocking Island.
We hope to return soon and would definitely book again with Peter and Betty.
Thank you again...we had an amazing vacation and the quiet/uncrowded Hoopers Bay was just what we needed!

Beautiful beach, central location, helpful owners
The beach is one of the most beautiful on Exuma. It was lovely to hear the sound of the waves from the apartment. The apartment is cozy but has everything one could need. The only critism is the shower is very tiny. Sandy Palms is a great location - fantastic beach, nearby groceries, nearby restaurants, and close to George Town. The owner, Peter Oxley, went above and beyond to help us locate luggage lost by the airline. We are truly grateful for all his efforts. The people in Exuma are super friendly and the happiness quotient on the island is off the charts. Overall we had a wonderful stay in Exuma and would recommend Sandy Palms as a place to stay.
