We loved our stay at Pension Tomato. The host was really kind and picked us up from the train station in Hakuba. Along with this, when dropping us off after our stay, he stopped at the Yamato centre so we could send ski bags to the next accomodation, a huge help.
We stayed in the 6 bunk lodge, fantastic. The amenities were very, very clean and comfortable. The shower was excellent. Spacious enough, with a nice area to relax in and kitchen bench to make easy meals. We also utilised the in-house onsens - a great choice as they were incredibly relaxing and peaceful after a ski, really clean and nice tranquil forest views. There are multiple, bookable for mixed or non-mixed onsens. The breakfast which you book the day before is great too.
A few minutes walk from the main echoland strip and rental place for ski/snow gear. That’s where shuttles for Happo-One and Hakuba 47 stop too, so convenient to get to the mountains in the morning.

Pension tomato might be the most relaxing place you could use as a ski-base in Hakuba for the price. It has its own legitimate pair of onsen that opens up to the woods behind the house. There was no better way to start and finish the ski day than soaking in these peaceful baths. The hosts were extremely gracious, helpful, and understanding. They picked us up from the bus station and we're always happy to help arrange taxis or food reservations in town. The house is located just around the block from the main strip of Echoland. You'll have plenty to do for a week here and the slightly larger Happo Village and Hakuba are a short and cheap cab ride away, if needed. The house also has free coffee and tea, a dry room for your wet gear, washer/drier for your soaked gear, and is on a quiet block but close to the main food/nightlife area of Echoland.
Not specific to the house, but the Echoland area in general doesn't have the most immediate access to skiing, if that's your interest. The shuttles are decent enough, but take some work to figure out and don't run as often as some might be used to in other western ski areas. We utilized taxis very easily, even to Cortina, the price is very fair, especially with a group.

excellent location for access to all ski slopes and Echoland.Owners were very helpful and friendly and were more than helpful.Stayed in the premier apartment that was warm , comfortable and more than adequate for a weeks ski trip.on site Onsens were wonderful after a hard days skiing.
Nothing........but a daily in house service to take guests to slopes would be a great option........saves the walk to Base Camp carrying ski gear.

The owners were exceptional in their hospitality- the breakfast was amazing and we enjoyed having an onsen the end of each ski day.
They went above and beyond when we had left a passport behind and without them we would have had a lot more trouble getting home. Thank you for everything!

First time stay in Hakuba and found this place for a relativly good price. Was somewhat skeptical but was blown away by the place. The beds were very comforable and clean, self cleaning bath in the spotless bathroom whichi was a massive bonus, Private Onsen's (2) are avaialble which are scenic, hot and very well maintained. Location was also fantastic, would stay here again!

We had a fantastic stay at pension tomato! Tsune happily got us to and from the Happo bus terminal , he and Motoko (I hope I got her name right!) were such gracious hosts and greeted us with a warm welcome and sake! Miss it already. The two on-site onsens are beautiful and easy to reserve! Had no issues, and look forward to making it back one day! We even went home with some home made apple jam that Tsune’s mom made! Pension tomato forever!
