We really enjoyed staying at Hotel Wellies. Chris, the owner of the hotel and his team were very helpful, especially Chris who picked us up from and drove us to JR station. Also, he gave us a ride to the tourist spots at Karuizawa. We were very impressed with the breakfast and tasted pure British breakfast in Japan

The room is huge and very comfy cottage style. They have a cozy restaurant. We only had breakfast there, and their homemade ham was awesome. We should have had booked dinner there also. The hotel has a list of nice restaurants around the area, and the staffs were very helpful in booking the restaurants.

The staff at Hotel Wellies really made it lovely. Judy was so warm and friendly, we loved chatting with her. The staff in the kitchen and dining room were also very nice and accomodating, squeezing us in for dinner one night even though we did not make advanced reservations. Dinner was delicious, from our cocktails to desert. I would definitely recommend eating in their dining room for dinner!

Not only the breakfast, but also the hospitality of the owner was fantastic.

It would be good if we could order some a la carte menu for the dinner not only the set menu.

The size of the room was ideal for my solo retreat, I loved how there was a separate sitting and sleeping area and the view was fantastic. I had one breakfast and two dinners and they were excellent value for money. They know how to do a proper cup of tea.

Had a great stay at hotel Wellies ! The family room was comfortable and spacious, room temperature was under our control, bath was clean, and rooms were attended to daily. The hotel is full of spirit and has its own character, which makes it different from chain or bigger hotels. The kids were able to take games to the room or play records in the dining area, which made them very happy as well as kept them busy... Chris was a great host, attentive to learn our needs and recommending places to go. The english breakfast was new for us and it was tasty. Being able to change the kind of egg, or having an alternative breakfast option the next day, was a great thing that allowed us to enjoy it to the fullest. We also took the english dinner once, which was tasty and fulfilling. Having it in the hotel after a day of snowboarding was a relieve. Thanks for the hospitality, the girls and us had a great time.

Only point to improve would be having more closet space. The family room has a shelf all around that we used to arrange our clothes on (4 people...) but its not optimal.

Decor is very unique in all its details

my reservation were included breakfast originally but we changed our mind “no breakfast”. The owner only refunded yen1300 per person which should be yen2000. many excuses and dishonest. shower room have chemical smells which cause us irritated nose and throat very uncomfortable while taking showers. it was continuous two nights. both my husband and me have the same symptoms. no clothes hook and closet in the rooms. it’s very inconvenient for visitors. it’s not worth for the price.

Chris is a very helpful host with a good sense of humor, and has great recommendations for local sightseeing and food in his tip book, one of the best hospitality you can expect !

A little reminder of the UK in beautiful Karuizawa. Dinner and breakfast were super authentic and yummy. The owner and his staff are so friendly and welcoming (Chris even took my five year old to collect eggs from the chickens).

Even though the portions were big, I could have eaten three breakfasts ;)

Homey and comfortable. Chris and staff were hard working, generous and personable. Rental bikes available, in very good working order. Location walkable to park, village and coffee shops as well as the charming restaurant/retail area of Harunire Terrace.

Great room! Great owner! Quaint location! Nice breakfast! Felt like we were being personally taken care of by the owner of the property.

Excellent location to be able to experience all the beauty that the Karuizawa area offers. Very comfortable rooms and peaceful grounds, loved the wild birds. Staff was super friendly and added to the great experience. Management/Chris was very welcoming and made us feel at home. Definitely take the opportunity to have dinner and or breakfast in Albert’s British Dining.

I was welcomed by Chris and friendly staffs and enjoyed the stay. (Not too friendly which I liked) They offered me a simple dinner as well, and he was also generous enough to drop me off at the destination the next day!

Great experience as British style meals and stay in Karuizawa. Staff hospitality and service was also great.

We loved how welcoming the Wellies team was! We could see that Wellies team authentically enjoys accommodating the guests, and that made our stay memorable.

We really enjoyed our experience at Hotel Wellies! Chris and the team were super fun and provided a great bed & breakfast experience. The location was great for our trip; we were here to bird at the Karuizawa Bird Sanctuary and hang out in the Hanrunire Terrace area. We rented eBikes from Hotel Wellies and it was perfect for getting around. The breakfast was AWESOME. We also did dinner one night and can definitely recommend that as well.

All the staff members were so kind both of us felt extremely relaxed.

Friendly host, quiet area, modern facilities, good amenities, warm room (minus seven degrees outside). Can't really say much more as we were there so briefly, just needing a place to sleep on a drive to Tokyo.

Disappointed that breakfast didn't start until 8:45. Our schedule meant we had to leave early, so missed out on it.
