A propos de ce maisonrental
Charming Woodenhouse

This house is perfect for someone like me who misses the way Mexico used to be. The house and gardens are quaint and charming and decorated with a rustic but beautiful attention to detail. The restaurant and beach are steps away and everyone was so kind and welcoming.

Close to town off a main road. A two minute walk to the beach if you walk really, really slow. and close to a quiet relaxing beach bar. Very clean, Sabine is great with communicating.

I stayed with two friends for a short get away. We were looking for something that was quiet at night but close to everything. It was perfect! Sabina was a lovely host and was fast on her communication. She arranged everything for the transportation from Cancun airport to the house. It was just steps away from Her restaurant Del Mar, we started there every morning then walked the beach to many of the beach clubs. We would definitely stay again! Bring bug spray and prepare for power outages on the island. But nothing that would deter me from going again.

Communication through the entire time was excellent. We loved the location and the entire home. Beach just steps away with a convenient restaurant.

This was our 2nd stay at Casa Cereza and it was as lovely as the first. The house is charming and steps from the beautiful beach. The cafe is now on the beach but that just means it is easier to get delicious food and drinks. Sabine is a wonderful and helpful host. If you are sensitive to mosquitos, I would recommend bringing bug repellant and maybe some flashlights to walk to/from town in the dark. Otherwise, just bring your swimsuits and enjoy the island!!!

Super Chill
Great location and very relaxing! The island isn't quite as quiet as it once was and the local traffic is busy, but the place was great, Sabine was great in making sure everything was taken care off, the cafe was excellent (especially for sunset) and you can walk to town or Punta Coco quite easily too. Exactly what we wanted, a super chill hammock and beach week!

Simple, quiet and relaxing.
Casa Cereza is just as advertised. We're a bit disappointed when we arrived that Cafe del Mar had moved to beach but found that the move had made the experience even better. Good for and service and a great location.

Wonderful Location , Steps from the beach
We had a wonderful 5 day stay at Casa Cereza. The apartment had all we needed and was comfortable and super clean. We loved the patio area with the hammock Perfect location, a few (barefoot) steps from the beach. Sabine made sure we had all we needed and she organized the door to door transfers to and from the airport. The food at the little cafe on the beach, Cafe del Mar , was excellent , very fresh and super tasty. It was great to be on the quieter end of the island but still just an easy walk along the beach to all the action. We hope to return.

Beautiful casa, steps from the beach
Located just outside of the downtown area but still walkable. House is very pretty and comfortable. No TV in the house and internet works well in spare bedroom but is weak elsewhere. In fairness, telecom services are very weak in Holbox. Owner is very nice and willing to help any way she can.

Fantastic
My wife and I finally took our long overdue honey moon to Casa Cereza and what a fantastic time we had. Sabine has a gorgeous house that you can tell from the first step on the property that her attention to detail was obvious. And not to mention café Del Mar beneath the place has the best food on the island.
We were also there during COVID and like anything else you might need she had a medical physician come to the property to administer our PCR or Antigen test before we could board our flight back to the states. Thank you Sabine it was a wonderful trip! And to anyone else looking at this property don’t hesitate to book as your dates will fill up fast!

Exactly what we needed as a family with small children
We visited Casa Cereza for almost 2 weeks and had a great time. It is basic but has everything you would possibly need to have a fantastic time close to the beach. We are a family of 4 that includes a 1.5y old toddler and a 4.5y old girl. The apartment is away from the main hotels area which is a plus for us. The main plus for us was having the private palapa (and there are not many of those) at the beach 30 seconds barefoot walking from our bedroom. That made a huge difference to us. The beach there is shallow water, crystal clear and white sand, ideal for small children. Sabine is super attentive and took good care of us making sure we had everything we needed. She helped us arranging transfers from and back to the airport with very professional drivers. We always felt secure there. We will happily go back. Perhaps the only downside to mention is that the road behind the house can get a bit noisy at night with traffic although this was not too much of an issue for us. All in all, very good value for money.

Great paradise to get away from all that hustle & bustle!!
Sabine was a very accommodating host and her restaurant was excellent with healthy choices. Loved relaxing on the porch with the breeze and the palm tree fronds. Perfect distance to downtown by bike or walking. Our 1st vacation to Holbox and Casa Cereza was the perfect place to stay. Thank You Sabine!

A wonderful stay
Our family of four loved our stay. Such a gorgeous apartment with a huge wraparound verandah overlooking the trees. The beach was seconds away and we spent a lot of time in the palapa allocated to the property. Sabine was a warm, friendly and very helpful host. Highly recommended.

The place to stay on Holbox Island
Casa Cereza is the ideal Holbox Island residence, less than a 100 yards from the ocean, set in a tranquil garden with its own Cafe del Mar. Perfect is a strong word but this is the perfect place to relax and have easy access to the center of town, restaurants and open air markets. You have the entire 2nd floor, bedrooms, open kitchen and an expansive deck so you can swing in the hammock and let the breezes calm you. The care and concern of the owner Sabine is exceptional. This is a wonderful experience and I strongly encourage you to partake in its excellence.

Christmas at Casa Cereza
Really enjoyed our stay at Casa Cereza. Kitchens are a rare find in Holbox and with 2 small kids we appreciated making breakfasts and lunches. Cafe del Mar serves awesome food including homemade bread. The white sand beach w shallow water a stone’s throw away is lovely.

Not Recommended - Very Poor Experience
Sadly our visit here was very very poor. There is an unmarked camouflage cement step right in the entrance to a bedroom where by husband broke his foot on the first day. And due to extreme flooding from heavy rains and he could not get around the island, the golf carts wouldn't even come to the house because it was too flooded. He was in too much pain to trudge through the high waters so we had to leave with our 2 year old daughter after only a few days to get to a doctor in Cancun. After asking Sabine to be understanding to our very unfortunate situation and please refund the 5 nights we didn't stay...she refused. Honestly, it was quite shocking to know she couldn't be more sympathetic to this accident and forgo the cancelation policy this one time and just be a compassionate person. Returning our money would have been the right thing to do. The ledge is randomly placed right in an entrance and incredibly easy to miss, it literally blends in with the floor. Overall a very upsetting experience.
The property is very pretty and the property manager was very sweet but the price of the apartment was too high especially for being in Mexico and for what you get compared to the other options on the island.
-- Some things to note that were not in Sabine's control but are important to know before booking. We captured a scorpion in the kitchen...we had our two year old daughter with us, scorpion can be lethal to small children. The beaches were completely covered in stinky seaweed making them totally unswimmable. The mosquitoes were also incredibly vicious at sunset...everyone would scream and run for cover the moment the sun went down. You would be covered in mosquitos every night.

Tranquil oasis
We stayed at Casa Cereza for three days, the house is beautiful and well maintained. The kitchen contains all necessary essentials and the bedrooms are comfortable. Holbox has certainly become busier over the years but Casa Cereza remains tranquil and enjoyable. The palapa on the beach steps from the house is definitely a great asset. Overall Casa Cereza is a great place for those looking for calm, the house is rustic on par with the best private accomodations availabe in Latin America. Sabine is an attentive host and took good care of us. We would definitely come back to Casa Cereza on our next trip to Holbox.

Amazing experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Cereza! The home was rustic but beautiful and had everything my family needed for our time on the island. We visited in August, so it was hot, but there are ceiling and standing fans in every room. The house is only 1 house away from the ocean, and you have your own private palapa on the beach - we truly felt we were in paradise! Sabina was a lovely host and it was nice to have an option to eat breakfast or lunch on the property, although it is only a10 min walk (slowly) on the beach to town. I can’t say enough good things about our experience and we hope to do it again in the future!!

Perfect vacation
I cant emphasize enough how amazing Sabine and César's home was. It's perfectly located just 1 minute from perhaps the most beautiful beach on the inhabited portion of the island and a very short walk to the center of town. The house itself is so comfortable and well appointed. We were 4 adults and had plenty of room. Our amazing hosts were so friendly and accommodating. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Ideal Location
Exactly as pictured, this property is classic Mexican Island beach house. The little breakfast Cafe del Mar downstairs has wonderful, clean, healthy food and Sabine even let us guests sneak some of their fantastic coffee free for ourselves before the cafe opened.
The guest quarters did not have AC but even with highs of 86 F the windows and fans kept it very comfortable. As a very light sleeper, the unfortunate side effect of no AC meant no way to close the windows and block out the sound of a nearby house party that created a lot of noise one night in particular. Next time I stay here I'll bring ear plugs just in case that happens again.
Walk maybe 50 yards on the sand road to your private section of glorious, soft, white sand heaven. Shallow, clear water and endless beaches await.
We took a golf cart taxi to the Casa Cereza property from the ferry but we were on foot our entire stay and never needed a ride anywhere. Everything you need from downtown is easily within walking distance!

Paradise
We absolutely loved our stay in Holbox. The property was in pristine condition and I’m dreaming of returning soon. The accommodations were very comfortable. Loved the wrap around porch and the private patio off the master. The cafe below was not only convenient but delicious! Sabine is a wonderful host. Her homemade breakfasts were divine. We loved the quail eggs, lentils with fresh baked bread and the homemade marmalade was a favorite! Would highly recommend. ◡̈

Casa Cereza
We loved staying at Sabine’s place- totally charming, the best location, the most divine beach. And her breakfasts at the cafe downstairs are heavenly. I will pack a headlamp on my next trip- great for reading in bed or hammock and helpful for nighttime bike riding on the wild roads of Holbox. We hated to leave such a wonderful spot

Beautiful Setting
Sabine’s home is in a beautiful setting - over looking her peaceful garden cafe, just a few steps from the beach, sleep to the sound of breezes rustling the palm trees. The fruit market and amenities of town are a short walk from the house, but far enough to be removed from the bustle. The private beach palapa on a quiet section of the beach is the perfect respite from the hot sun. The noise from the golf carts and scooters on the road can be a bit loud at night, but other than that the setting is idyllic.

Rustic charm
The property is beautifully rustic and very clean. The owner is helpful, but not intrusive and the cafe breakfast downstairs is not only convenient, but good.
Two small comments. The house is not directly on the beach but very close (one house back) and does have a private shade palapa on the beach.
The bathroom situation may make this house a little uncomfortable for two couples unless they know each other well.

Just the Paradise we were looking for.
Casa Cereza provided my partner and our two boys (aged 11 and 14) with exactly what we needed, rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. It was yards away from a very nice and quiet area of the beach but yet just a little walk to the hustle and bustle of the center of Holbox. Sabine was a perfect hostess. Her help arranging transportation getting us to the island was seamless - it was so helpful. She was always there when you had a question and her advice when my son got ill made me feel very secure and supported. The apartment had plenty of room for us and we got so much more than if we had rented from one of the boutique hotels. We absolutely loved our time at Casa Cereza!! We will cherish the memories forever.

Relaxing
We enjoyed our stay immensely! Sabi is a wonderful, warm host. We were very sad to say goodbye.
The house is just far enough out of the village. You can easily walk anywhere from the house. You have your own beach with one one the calmest waters on the island and a lovely kitchen to cook in. If you are not interested in cooking Sabine’s cafe on the first floor can’t be beat. We ordered breakfast a few times and also sandwiches to go for our exploration day.

wonderfil host, wonderful vacation
Enjoyed our stay so much! Sabine is the perfect host and such a wonderful hideaway - perfect distance to town. The private beach hut was such a luxury and we often had the whole beach to ourselves. Café breakfast was great and such a relaxing way to start the day. Loved Holbox and wished we could have brought home one of those unconditionally happy dogs. A few more luxurious places to stay on the island - but wouldn't' t have wanted to stay anywhere else. Great relaxing stay!! Thanks so much Sabine

We just returned from a most perfect and truly "dreamy" visit at Sabina's house and Isla Holbox. Like others, I am reluctant to say anything since we want to keep this gem all to ourselves. The home was roomy, breezy and spacious and having a kitchen and a fridge was a huge bonus. Sabina's downstairs cafe is a marvelous spot for breakfast and lunch - healthy and tasty.
Near everything in town (but not too close) and the gorgeous beach just 50 meters away...
We are already going to book for next year.
Gracias por todo!

great experience. the beach is just beautiful, great for kids. the apartment is perfect and very clean. we were able to eat at night indoors. to go to town you have a nice walk on beach. Sabine also has a café downstairs which is very good, and fresh. We defiantly encourage families to go there. Sabine was nice to organize the taxis to come from Cancun back to Valladolid.

Come to holbox for the beach and the charming village town. Stay because case cereza and Sabina make your vacation memorable. Love the fresh juices and quail eggs for breakfast, the fresh baked bread and jam, the lovely garden surrounding the house and the beach is footsteps away. The house is well equipped, spacious and has great breezes and fresh air to keep you cool. The four of us (two teenagers) had a great stay over Christmas and enjoyed renting bikes, a boat tour to the islands and dinners in town. Sabina took great care of us!

My husband, daughter (2 years old) and I needed a much needed break after a lot of grief in our family. This place was perfect! Our airline lost our luggage and Sabine was so gracious to get on the phone to get it to us. After a few days it arrived with her help. She helped set up all our transportation which was great since we were traveling with a 2 year old. Casa Cereza is on the quiet end of town and there is a place that is right on the beach for you to take all your cares away. We loved staying here. It was clean, calm and beautifully built. And you have a healthy restaurant to eat at down stairs with fresh eggs from Sabine's quails (which are delicious). When we come back, this is our place to go! I would recommend it 100%!!

My wife, two daughters (14 and 16) and I loved Isla Holbox and Casa Cereza. The Isla has a relaxed atmosphere also as limited cars (only for construction work) are allowed. We relaxed, swum and rented a golf car and bicycles to explore the Isle. To be honest: the golf car was more appreciated by our daughters!
The Case itself is very authentic, clean and space full. It is located a quite part of a quite Isla (we also visited Isla Mujeres and Akumal, which are much more touristic). We very much liked the breakfasts, lunches and especially the smoothies prepared by Sabine helped by her Austrian friend.
Staying at a place like Sabine’s is totally different from staying at a hotel/apartment because you get personal attention, insider tips and help in arranging practicalities like bicycles, transportation. We felt at home but also very much on a holiday.
If you look for the above described: we definitely recommend Sabine's place.

I hesitate to promote Casa Cereza and Isla Holbox as much of the charm of this place lies in its hidden exposure. However, I cannot help but let others know that are looking for a few days or weeks in a quiet paradise that this is one of those places. Casa Cereza has all of the necessary amenities, but without the corporate polish of a 5-star accommodation. The homespun hospitality and construction add to its charm. The rooms are spacious and the large deck is perfect for reading, sitting, working online or just listening to the breeze in the palms, the birds singing, or the quiet. We will return when we again have the need to unwind.

My husband and two children and I had a great time at Casa Cereza. Sabine is so nice and willing to help in any situation. She made all our arrangements, including transport to and from Cancun, had our golf cart waiting, lined up individual boat trips for us with people she knows and got us the best prices. Her cafe is wonderful and she packed delicious picnics for us on home-made bread. I highly recommend the quail egg omelet, from Sabine's backyard quails. There is horseback riding just a couple of properties down the beach, and Alejandro and Dora (horse owners) are super nice. We really enjoyed a boat trip with a friend of Sabine's; first we fished and then he made ceviche with the fish we had caught - the most delicious meal ever!

This upstairs apartment is a charming 2 BR + full kitchen that was built in the style of traditional palapa architecture. If you need A/C, this is not your place. If you are looking for an experience in a very clean, traditional-style place, though, THIS IS your place. The table on the nice wrap around deck has an ocean view, the master bedroom has its own private balcony and the fantastic, full-shade lounger/hammock beach area is 18 steps away. After hunting the length of the island, her beach was the best on the island -- way better than the opposite-end, high-volume area offers where the Gulf Stream forces flotsom and trash up to cover the sandy areas. While this area is quiet and secluded it was an easy 5-7 minute stroll to town, to beach bars in the marina area or to the wide variety of restaurants available in town. If you want a taxi back, they were cheap (40 pesos) and normally easy to find. Of course for a leisurely breakfast or happy hour drinks, Sabine's on-site Cafe del Mar was pretty nice as well.
As a 5 or 6 time VRBO user, I was a bit skeptical about having an on-site owner...boy was I wrong. She was wonderful hostess who never steered us wrong. Whether recommending shopping places or restaurants, having local advice was awesome. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the lovely Isla Holbox.
I also recommend 100% DEET insect repellent if you plan on being out after dark when the breeze slows down. I do not think I can blame the mosquito bites on the property, and Sabine warned us early about them. They are not as bad as some place like Bonaire, but they are certainly as bad as Florida/Louisiana/Texas Gulf Coast areas. Happily, every opening in the house has a tight screen in place to keep the critters out.

Our stay on Isla Holbox was only made better by staying at Casa Cereza. Sabine our host was so sweet and acomadating. We could ask her anything and if she herself didn't have the answer she knew someone that did. We truly made a friend in Sabine and hope to go and see her again. The house is just as you see it. The beach is only steps away beautiful and quite. A great place to go and listen to the ocean and look for sea shells. My favorite spot was the hammock on the veranda outside our room. I will miss that hammock. I will be telling all my friends if they go to Holbox to stay here. There are several places to eat for breakfast or dinner but don't miss out on eating at Casa del Mar Sabines own restaurant for breakfast right down the stairs from your room.
