Traditional Japanese Inn
Our room (and bathroom in particular) were very dated and worn, for the price I was expecting a better standard. Facilities listed on the website did not exist and there was no apology.

Accoglienza e location super! CONSIGLIATISSIMO!

The beautiful view of the lake and Mt Fuji from the room
Location was quite away from everything else
4.3
The best part is the view through their huge window. The hot spring was beautiful, it’s a long walk from your room. The food was a bit disappointing. We were always hungry after dinner even though we upgraded to a better meal plan. Some of the welcome staff don’t speak Japanese or English. We were guided to our room by a staff, but she didn’t say a word. But the Japanese staff at the front was wonderful. Their coffee machine is great especially their green tea latte.
Food was disappointing. Too many tofu and fish. Natto and eggs for breakfast would have been nice.

The excellent staff, the view, the open air onsen, thoughtfulness of the dinner chefs, hours of the onsen, free circular bus and shuttle
Hard to get around without shuttle or circular bus.
4.3
View on lake and Fuji-san from room, very spacious rooms, Japanese-style room, breakfast and dinner in Japanese, it was a lot and a great variety of food, the (indoor and outdoor) onsen incl. sauna were great!
Majority of instructions in the facilities were in Japanese, but I guess the important ones were translated. The TV had no English-speaking or international channels, or no access to Netflix etc.
4.3
Navette gratuite depuis Odawara.

4.3

Beautiful view, onsens were amazing, and the staff were incredibly helpful.
The bed mats weren’t very comfortable but we are used to western style beds and this may be just be typical and we’re not accustomed to it.

The staff were eager to please and the included breakfast and dinner were delicious!
No AC! It states so on the website and it was true in the hall, but not in the room. The staff brought me a fan, but all it did was run the hot air around.
4.3
The view from the room as well as from the Onsen over Lake Ashi and Fuji was great. As European guests it was nice to attend the Kaiseki wearing the Yukata.
Especially for the breakfast an alternative food option for international visitors would have been preferable.
4.3
Beautifully located ryokan with very friendly service. If you're lucky, you can see Fujisan.
The kaiseki style food served at breakfast and dinner was excellent and the views from the several available onsens astonishing, be it the view of Ashinoko in the main building (for day guests) or the japanese garden in the annex building (for overnight guests).
Even though there were many guests in the ryokan, we had the onsen to ourselves most of the time.
We reserved the shuttle bus from Odawara station, but we didn't know what the bus looked like and where it stops, so we missed it. FYI, it stops near the statue beside the line buses and carries the logo of the Prince Hotel chain.
The building itself is a bit rustical, but well maintained and clean, so for me personally it gave it more flair to the ryokan experience. Not so many power outlets available in the room.
Public transport (bus) to/from Togendai/Motohakone didn't come so often as we hoped for, but if you are fit enough, you can even walk these distances. Parts of the road pass directly along the lake.

I loved the location! So close to a cute shopping area and to the ferry! It was also close to a ropeway that happened to be closed for the summer.
I loved wearing the yukata to the meals! We also wore them to fireworks to celebrate the Dragon festival! There were lots of yukatas to choose from in many colors and designs!
We loved the meals! We stayed two nights so we had two breakfasts and two dinners and we had some of the best food of our entire trip at our meals! We had fresh sushi at our second dinner! It also came with excellent meat that we cooked at our own personal mini grills at the table! There was one breakfast I didn’t care for, but I loved all three other meals greatly!
The serving staff at dinners were very nice!
We had a nice view of Mount Fuji, it’s over to the right over a hill, and sometimes it is covered in clouds, but it is beautiful and we loved it.
Our room was nice and big and very comfortable.
Sometimes there was a weird vibe at the front desk.
They never cleaned the room while we were gone. With four people in the room it would’ve been nice to have clean glasses and towels each day. We did ask for clean glasses at the front desk and they did bring them on a tray.
The onsen was very nice but oh how I wish there was a third option aside from public and private baths where we could wear bathing suits! Of course no onsen allows this, but I sure would love it!
Our room was in the annex section of the hotel.

staff very helpful
Nice location and very nice lake view
Booked 2rooms and assigned to ground floor but 2nd/3rd floor obviously had vacant rooms. Not sure why they said NO to us.
Facilities are getting old, not vintage.
Good dinner breakfast experience.
No communication between booking.com and hotel, we have a few children but the hotel didn't know about it.
4.3
A traditional ryokan with a traditional onsen.
The cushions were noticeably worn out, likely due to excessive use. Although we had booked half board, we were served extremely traditional Japanese food, which would have been fine if alternative options were not available. However, during dinner and breakfast, others enjoyed a more Western-style cuisine. It would have been helpful to be informed about these choices beforehand. We inquired about breakfast options during dinner and were assured that alternatives were available. However, we ended up receiving another round of the super traditional Japanese food, which did not suit our preferences.
Clearly, the hotel should have either informed us about the possibility of a more Western-style breakfast or asked for our food preferences during the booking process.
The staff was super friendly. The area is beautiful but nature not very accessible. We were unluckily case the lift near by was closed for inspection. The small tourist village near by was too touristy.
All in all - nice experience with the hotel but Hakone unfortunately turned into an outdated tourist trap that needs to be updated on many levels.
4.3
Very relaxing onset. Great rooms with fabulous views. Very traditional Japanese food
We were supposed to be picked up by the hotel shuttle bus but we weren’t told where to meet the bus at Odawara station. As a result we missed it and had to make our own way there.
4.3
fabulous location very tranquil even got to see Mount Fuji (briefly) near cable car great service picked up from station and back again room beautiful very immersive experience
4.3
The view of the lake is beautiful, room was very big and beds were OK, we got to wear a yukata and food was very well prepared, staff was very professional. The whole vibe is calm and quiet, which is a good change from our stay in Shinjuku.
There's a bakery near by that I very much recommend you go to. We got to see a very big cherry blossom tree that was beautiful.
Personally I don't eat fish very much, and the included food couldn't be changed, good thing they had fried chicken and fries for those of us that are not very good eaters.
We only stayed one day and it was a windy cloudy one, I guess that was just bad luck.
4.3
It’s very clean although the hotel has long history.
Hot spring with Fuji view is amazing 👍
Restaurant is fantastic!!!
The hotel also offer pick up service from Odawara station
Hot spring in main building closed a little bit early
4.3
This is a really nice place for a relaxing get-away to explore Japanese onsen, beautiful views over the lake and mount Fuji and good, traditional Japanese food. The staff is super polite and friendly.
From the first contact until we left with the included shuttle we have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about this place.
4.3
Super friendly staff, breaktaking views of the lake and Fuji mountain from the room. Onsen very comfy.
I wish the breakfast time can have earlier options. Like 7am.
4.3
Outdoor onsen and room with spectacular view, very clean and friendly staffs.
We visited during winter time and room is very cold at night. Heating system could be improved.
4.3
Room is clean with a very good view of Mount Fuji. Onsen is not as big but there aren’t many guests. There is no snow on the roads during our visit on the 6 Dec. So driving is possible in Hakone but we used the Hakone free pass.
The hotel has a strange policy of no free shuttle pickup service between 3-4 pm when the check in time is 4 pm. We visited the famous Torii gate and it was impossible to walk to the hotel from there, so a taxi was necessary.
The dinner was disappointing; the sashimi was cut in advance and stored in the refrigerator, so it’s cold and dry. The other dishes have also forgettable, overall the dinner is poor in value. Luckily the breakfast is better.
The ladies onsen is located in an isolated part of the attached building should have a lady staff manning it to encourage single ladies from going onsen in the quiet hours.
4.3
Roomy Japanese-style room, the exclusive onsen, the food (dinner set), nice lake and mountain view
4.3
room and hot spa
everything fine
4.3
The friendliness of staff and overall atmosphere of relaxation. Views from the room were fantastic.
Not much to say here.
4.3
It was my friend's and my son's first time to stay in a ryokan so we chose the property that has a nice view, good food (kaiseki dinner), an open-air bath, and to get a more traditional feel. I really appreciate the clean public baths and dining area and free drinking water in the onsen. Ryuguden did not disappoint that we actually want to stay there again!
The location is not ideal for active travelers and holders of Hakone Free Pass. Taxi from Hakone-Yumoto area to the ryokan will cost almost 7000 yen. But for those who want to move away from the city center, this can be the best place to stay. It's really quiet and I think a stroll outside can be nice.
For those who are picky with cleanliness (squeaky clean walls etc.), this may not be a place for you because the property is quite old.
