I had been looking forward to staying in the Hyatt as it looks a special hotel from the outside. The main lobby is impressive and the finishes in the room are high-end but older in style.
Unfortunately, the service at reception was rather cold and the room I had was noisy; I could hear doors slamming and people ascending a stairway in the adjacent service corridor as well as loud music from one of the function rooms until late at night. The tv also turned itself off three times and needed to be fully reset to function. I also found the power point locations inconvenient and the lack of cutlery in the room disappointing.
Although I didn’t have it, the breakfast buffet did look fantastic.
All in all I was bit underwhelmed and won’t be rushing back.

Apart from the lack of an effective exhaust fan in the bathroom everything else was excellent

Check-in was fine Room. Very tired, cobwebs on all the windows, television broke down. Could not be repaired. Bed was comfortable. Room was although dated very comfortable bathroom and shower were great. Amenities minimal and not to $300 plus per night standard which is double the average roommate anywhere else in Canberra?.

Overall a comfortable stay. My only whinges were that we were initially put in a room where the lifts were not working. They moved us to another room without any problem and told us someone would be down to move us. But we were left stranded in the room for 30 minutes. We had had a long drive and we were anxious to freshen up. In the end I walked down to reception to find out what was going on. The chairs in the bedrooms could do with refurbishing as they are quite saggy. Also the TV is in the wrong place. It should be opposite the bed not at the side. Tiny little coffee cups are provided for tea instead of mugs. The service was a bit haphazard. They came to do our room and forgot to make the bed and leave milk in the fridge. The positives are that the rooms are large. Huge bathroom! Breakfast is amazing and the bed is very comfortable.

By any measure this is one of Australia’s great hotels. The management rightly celebrates the building’s history as the first accommodation to be built for politicians & senior public servants in the early days of Canberra. But in addition to that (and the elegant renovation) the service was superb, and the food excellent. It’s also close to the National Gallery, the National Library etc.

We spent one night at Hyatt Canberra and it was perfect. Simple check in - we were actually allowed to check in early which was great as my Wife and I were very tired and needed a nap before dinner. Nice bathroom, a comfortable bed, we made a little use of the TV. Really enjoyed our stay and we look forward to returning soon

Lovely stylish hotel, warm welcome & very comfortable surroundings. A great place to stay.

Hotel is in a good central position for many Canberra attractions. Lovely old world feel around the hotel BUT sadly our room was right underneath some improvement work taking place and drilling began at 7am on weekdays. We left our room at 9am on Sunday and came back just before 2pm and room had not been cleaned as well as a Room Service tray was left in the open the entire weekend without being collected.
Overall a great hotel, but some of the finer details need a little more attention.

Iconic hotel with a charm, great hotel with a old charm, while the foyer and room was great the the pool facilities definitely could do with an uplift.

Always a favourite place to catch up with friends for a drink, this time we got to stay.

We had two sleepless nights due to the room temperature, I believe, the doona was too warm and without it was too cold. We had a package which apparently relegated us to a remote room,119, our previous room 202 ?? was more comfortable and convenient.

Staff were great, we had to move rooms and the staff were more than helpful

This is such a beautiful hotel and apart from the excellent service and rooms anyone who appreciates a lost era in design will love this property. Built in the Federation architectural style there are echos of Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel, sadly demolished, in Tokyo. Highly recommended and can't wait to stay there again.

Overall a nice experience. A couple of observations though: the room sevice breakfast was cold and you needed to call and ask for butter for your toast. For a 5 star establiahment, it should be a given and provided with your breakfast including a selection of jams, jellies or spreads .
Another criticism is that different staff constantly asked if everythjng was okay every few minutes while i was having dinner in the tea rooms. This became very annoying. Also, 2 different wait staff asked for my order at dinner and i did not receive what i ordered for desert Also, coffee which was requested and on the bill was not provided so there are a few issues with staff. There should be one staff member attending to a tables needs, not multiple, and dont interupt every few minutes. Some discretion is needed and a query at the end of the meal is sufficint. This showed a rather disrespectful and juvenile approach. Other than that, everything else was okay, though i had to aak for water several times in the room. I would have thought that this should be provided. One 400ml bottle was rather skimpy. Other establishments i have stayed at have not charged for additional water.
My only other criticism would be that there was no one to show you to your room and the hotel is rather a rabbit warren. The gym and pool facilities are also a distance from the hotel acroas a road which i found strange. For one of the top hotels in Canberra, there is definately room for improvment

This is a beautiful grand hotel in a great location.
We had a buffet dinner - good but the food choices were limited. We enjoyed the breakfast and variety of options. All the wait staff were very accommodating.
The king bed was comfortable but maybe a bit old as when my husband rolled, I felt every movement - maybe the matresses need changing? And the bathroom needs a more thorough cleaning - signs of mould low down and around the grout.
The hotel is expensive so we felt that $30 for overnight parking was a bit excessive.
We would stay at this hotel again but these issues need to be sorted.

We cannot imagine a better place to stay in Canberra! It is easy walking distance along the lake and through leafy parks from practically all the great places of interest there. Also handy for the airport. The catering is outstanding and the staff are most helpful. We stayed in a couple of different rooms and they were both of very high standard. Not "cheap" but excellent value for money.

Great location near the lake, bus stop and walking/bike tracks. Lovely outdoor sitting area at the Hyatt. Rooms are large enough and the room service/housekeeping very efficient. Cycle Canberra deliver bikes straight to hotel if you plan to bike around. Buffet breakfast fantastic and great staff. Only suggestion is to work on better access to cater for prams and wheelchairs. Loved this stay!

I decided to try this Hyatt because I wanted a 5 star weekend. Unfortunately this did not eventuate. The in-house dining facility (Promenade Cafe) was extremely forgettable (inattentive staff, limited and uninteresting food) while it took over 24 hours and 3 calls to eventually obtain a non-slip mat for the shower. The facilities, though very clean, were rather tired (no mixer taps in shower, so either freezing or boiling). Next time I am in Canberra I will go elsewhere.

It definitely seems that this is a hotel in 2 halves. The newer section is showing is age. My room seemed to be in a section of the hotel that I would call 2nd class. The rooms were lovely but.....in the lobby areas outside, there were tiles missing around the skirting, furniture just plonked to fill up otherwise empty spaces, poor paint finishes, large laundry trolleys with overflowing towels (clean and dirty) just left opposite the lift. Also, on the beverage list it shows champagne but there was none in the room - I had to point this out to make sure I wasn't charged for it. The outside garden bar area was lovely with very efficient staff. Didn't make up for my disappointment overall though.

It was a beautiful heritage hotel that has been enhanced beautifully in the Art Deco style. The dining and bar facilities all set among lovely lawned areas and gardens are sublime.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Excellent conditions throughout even though some areas were undergoing repair work due to previous flood damage. Food was to a very high standard. The newly introduced Sunday soiree with live music in the hotel garden was a special and relaxing experience.

You really felt like you were staying in oppulent style. The only let down was the quality of the food, and the wait staff. The gym and spa closed a little early - I would like it to be 24 hour - Other than that, the room was fabulous, the bath enormous, and the hotel was a 5 star facility, right across from the National Library of Australia. We will be going back for sure.

Very classical hotel with charm and character rarely found with other contemporary offerings. Will definitely stay there again.
