We loved the location and the feeling of the grandeur from the past. You get a feel for the city by staying here. Of course the showers have been added later, so has the airconditioner. You just go out for your coffee and meals. The price is pretty good too.

The Gran Hotel is perfectly located to walk to so many wonderful eateries and places of interest. With that comes a bit of noise, as I was in a room that faced the square. The hotel exudes old world charm. There are many interesting features, such as the wonderful marble stairs and large wood doors. My bed was a bit firm but I liked that. As the building is old there were many evident repairs but the room was clean, no dust, just a few mosquitos in the sink. The AC worked perfectly and there was great water pressure in the shower (just not warm enough for me.). The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and everyone I met in the hotel was friendly. There are several comfortable sofas and chairs grouped along the large open landings outside the rooms, to sit and talk. If, like me, you love the beauty of old world opulence then this hotel is for you.

One thing that’s important to know is the hotel doors are closed from 12am - 6am for guest to come and go. You feel like you are trapped there and were not notified about this. This is the only hotel I’ve ever stayed at that does this. Other than this, the people are nice and service is good

Start with parking, contact hotel before arriving to get address, it’s close but tricky, they have a deal with local parking lot. Hotel, beautiful beautiful beautiful, it’s not posh and contemporary, it’s historic and comfortable. No elevators. Close to main square, heart of city. Service, friendly, helpful and kind. Absolutely would stay again. We felt it was a good price.

The hotel is a historic 1905 building. It has a lot of charm but also needs a lot of updating. Also not to mention that the room was on the 3rd floor and no elevator. It should probably be mentioned in the description of the hotel.

Nice City and people.

I enjoyed my week long stay. Staff was very nice and especially the bell man who is an older gentleman (I didn’t get his name). The hotel was dated, but in a charming and antique-ish way. It fit my idea of what a grand hotel would have looked like in the past.
My room and the hotel itself was very clean. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping. My mattress was not soft (I slept well). But the bedding was attractive. My room had an air conditioner and a ceiling fan. They kept the room nice and cool. Shower water ran warm enough to shower comfortably. It would have been nice if there was an elevator. Otherwise I don’t have any complaint.

I love that it was built in 1901 and how ornate it is. They provide a bellboy to bring your luggage to your room. It looks so historical. The service is very niceThey need to install an elevator.

Have been staying here for years, we visit Merida often and our experience is always positive. The gentlemen at the front desk, have been there for years and we often chat about an old St. Bernard's dog that was at the from drsk. The dog eas so frendly that, she was a fixture at The Gran Hotel. Unfortunately I believe she has passed. As long as I keep coming to Merida, thi will be our stay.

This an older hotel with a classic colonial style built in 1901. It feels like you are in a bygone era. Not for everyone but memorable for us as we spent our honeymoon there 36 years ago and this was a return trip. Staff were always helpful even though their english was spotty. A starbucks and icecream shop downstairs were great.

The staff was outstanding and even though it was a 123 year old hotel, the place was great! The A/C for the rooms was wonderful.

Past its faded glory. Still has character but the whole facility is very shabby and worn. We asked for a quiet room and were given the choice of two. Picked one, turns out there is a night club next door which blared extremely loud music until late.

A lovely old grand hotel full of antiquities, slightly shabby chic. Very walkable area with plenty to see and do . Eat , shop, attend a concert or walk through beautiful cathedrals. Note that there is construction in that area for road and pedestrian walkways so it is important to watch where you are walking. Still worth the minor inconvenience.

Room requires major renovation. Excellent location. 3 star rating is about correct. This is a gem that needs to be polished.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Gran Hotel. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is charming with its antiques and original decor. It is in the historic centre so perfectly located.
We did notice our room was one of the very smallest available which may have been because we booked via Expedia rather than directly but it met our needs.

Very comfortable classic hotel in great location. Staff very helpful. It's dated but charming. Have stayed there many times. Could be a movie set.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and it was really cool to stay in such a historic hotel. The entrance and common areas felt like living a fantasy of another time. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the historic district. The square out front is lovely. Lots of restaurants and shopping surrounding the hotel. It was Merida fest, so the city was vibrant and fun, with many things happening every night. There are markets and street vendors everywhere.
The only problem were the rooms. They haven’t been updated at all. The cleaners cleaned well, but it’s just too old and dirty in the rooms to do much. The shower doesn’t drain and fills up, so taking a shower is not refreshing. Our room we later discovered had ghost ants coming through the cracks in the wall. We had 2 choices of room, the first was tiny and had a king bed, but ants coming out of the bathroom light fixture and the shower was worse, so we had to take the bigger room with 2 double beds on our honeymoon. The WiFi and the aircon did work though.
Overall not the worst, but would not stay here again. There are historical tours visiting the hotel, so I think visiting the hotel as a historical landmark is better than staying, unless they update the rooms.

Stay somewhere else in Mérida. We moved to a different hotel eventually. The staff here are rude, unhelpful and dismissive. The hotel is beautiful inside but it has none of the amenities listed available. The rooms are old and need updating - bathroom smells and also needed refreshing. Our toilet broke on our last day staying here. This could be an amazing place to stay in Merida close to all attractions and easy to walk to nearby restaurants and parks. But the staff and lack of any real hotel amenities really ruined the trip for us. You will find many nicer places to stay in Merida - choose somewhere else!

We have stayed here several times. Located in Centro and a walk to most activities and attractions. No restaurant in hotel but PLENTY of options within 200 feet! Romantic and secluded in a small square, this is a great hotel for couples.

Beautiful 1901 luxury hotel, renovated several times, still plenty of charm, marble staircases, elegant woodwork. Great staff and perfect location. Stucco etc. crumbling in a few places, but not bad considering age and climate. A bit noisy in outside rooms until midnight. Would stay again!

Location for sightseeing is fine. In the night music is playing in front of the Hotel, that is sometimes noisy.

This is a very old hotel and it shows!!!
Everything in the hotel is falling apart and it doesn’t get fix. The hotel tile is broken everywhere, the moldings are falling, there are cracks in between door and wall, and overall, the installation is very antiquated. The pictures shown are very deceitful. That is NOT the current condition of the hotel.

This is an historic hotel, built in 1901, the first in Merida. With that said, the hotel is old. We were told that the government and/or political groups do not allow the upgrades or renovations this hotel needs. Floor tiles seem to be the originals. A good scrub and painting would help, cosmetic updates and repairs as well. But the hotel is beautiful. The staff is very helpful. Location is excellent. If you want the modern amenities, don't stay here. I've stayed in similar hotels/hostels in Europe in my youth, so I was okay with this hotel. I wanted the colonial feel of the city. You have a park right outside and with a room balcony, you can enjoy the sounds of the city and nature. We enjoyed our stay here.

Charming historic hotel.

I felt like I walked back in time to the 1800’s. It is a beautiful classic hotel that has remained, in many ways, in its original condition. I liked that.
