Our third visit here and although we were informed the pub was being renovated we didn't realise the extent of the building work. Scaffolding everywhere and workmen around from about 7.30am. My sheet was ripped and there were rubbish bags outside our room.

Great location , good food and drink on tap . Room and location excellent.

I had a lovely stay. No view of the river from room but the pub is in a beautiful situation and super location for centre of Chester. Very clean room. Great stay!

The room was well styled though absolutely boiling. The heater was on 25 degrees and you could not stay in there. We had to leave the doors open and come back later. It wasn’t much cooler. Also Unfortunately the rooms television was broken. We notified reception on check in, they replied there was an issue with all television across the hotel. This was a lie. We had friends in four other rooms and all had television. I expect a television as a part of an expectation in a room these days. Especially when paying the tariffs we did. I explained on check out, they said that they would now get it fixed, though on check in the staff member knew it was an issue. I do expect a deduction should be offered as we were sold it with a tv as part of the package. Breakfast was very tasty. And staff friendly.

Lovely hotel, bedrooms really tastefully decorated, nice touch with tea and coffee would like to see some decaf, toiletries in bathroom, bed and pillows comfy, could just do with a bit more attention to detail in terms of cleaning. Food in the pub is of an excellent quality, great choice and friendly staff. Not keen on the floor being mopped whilst eating my breakfast as all I could smell was the cleaning products! Pub looking a bit shabby but understand it’s due for an upgrade, hope it doesn’t put the prices up as they feel just about right at the moment. Would definitely stay again.

After we booked the hotel we got an email to say that towards the end of the year the pub will be shut for a month for refurbishment. This is certainly needing to be done. The comfortable faux leather seats are worn to the point that there’s no leather left in the arms & what is there flaked off & arched to you. We noticed the morning after arrival that the WC has a soil mark on the outside/front, down towards the floor. We reported this at breakfast to staff who apologised & said that the toilet would be given a deep clean. Unfortunately this was either not passed on or ignored during the rooms daily freshen up. We cleaned it ourselves after returning from our tourist walk around the walls & city. We only had dinner on the Sunday & the Sunday roast was nice. Breakfast was great with a good choice of cereals, fruit juices, fruit & pastries in a help yourself buffet style. The cooked/hot choices were ordered at your table & had a good choice & were certainly well presented & tasty. Refills of tea or coffee were offered if wanted.

Great location with a small parking courtyard close to the center of Chester, and right on the River Our room was modern and clean. The A/C was a bonus as the humidity was high. The restaurant/bar has good coffee and breakfast options We enjoyed our stay.

Bar area very tired- bit much when charged £29 for a bottle of wine that’s £5 in the shops (Rioja)

Great place

The food and staff were lovely very friendly and helpful. The room was adequate for our needs the bed comfy . The only issue I had in the room was the position of the tv.It was on the wall in a wooden case .There was very little room between wall and the bed . So if you get up in the middle of the night you could easily walk into . We slept with the light to avoid this issue

The location was ideal as we were attending an event in centre of Chester. Staff were lovely and helpful. The room we stayed in was decoratively pleasant however the maintenance of the bathroom facilities let down the experience. As we were only staying for one night there was little to be done. The staff took on our comments… hopefully the issues will be resolved for the next guests.

We loved the location on the riverside and so close to the centre. There is free parking for guests unlike many of central hotels. The food was excellent and the service was fast especially as both lunch and evenings were really busy. Our room was very clean and modern. It was a little hot but there was a fan in the room to cool it down.

Very comfortable room and very quiet area. Friendly staff. We had a river view room but was mostly a view of car park with small view of water across boathouse outdoor dining area.

Fabulous location, super friendly welcoming staff, spacious bedrooms and delicious breakfast. This was our second visit and we will definitely return

The river location was excellent, I got a room with a view from the loo! Few breakfast issues with eggs and undercooked sausage but nothing to loose sleep over.

Easy and fast check in, excellent service throughout, staff very helpful. Room large and comfortable. Only downside was a little bit of damp on ceiling outside the toilet and toilet not as clean as it could be, cobwebs under sink. But toilet, sink and shower all nice and clean. Food very good.

Stayed at the boathouse twice before and find standards have dropped a little. Few cobwebs in bathroom, cleaning not the best, loose plug socket in wall, loose toilet roll holder and mattress not the comfiest. Improvement… air con in our room! Had to go find someone to check in at 3 as pub was very busy and not enough staff to cope. Breakfast and food excellent in the pub but mens toilets was like a construction site and some bits of furniture need a bit of tlc. Staff all lovely and polite.

We very much enjoyed staying here in the location next to the river Dee. The food served in the restaurant, both for the evening meal and the breakfast, was excellent.

Enjoyed the location food and beer

What a beautiful place this is. My friend and i stayed here the night before our shopping trip to Cheshire Oaks. We were greeted by the lovliest staff and that remained thoughout our stay, during dinner, drinks and breakfast. The rooms were fabulous and had everything in there we needed. In the evening we sat iutside on the barge and had a drink then moved into one of the beach huts which all had a light and heater in them. I would not hesitate to go back to the Boathouse and i dont think anyone could be disappointed

Great location. Brilliant room. Really quirky. Not really riverside views as promised instead more car park views. Giving motel vibes! Continental brekkie a bit naff with world's smallest croissants but my partner said full english was good. Excellent customer service and would return. Htrat for parking too as free parking until 3pm on day of departure.

The Boathouse is the best hotel in Chester. Great location on the River Dee. Easy free parking right outside our room. Its only a 5 minute walk into Chester if you walk through the park at the rear of the buildings. All staff were very curtious, friendly and customer focused. Our food was excellent. We ate in the Boathouse on both nights that we stayed. Breakfast was the best we have ever had in many years in staying in various hotels. We visit around 4 times per year in all seasons. Weve already booked to return during the Christmas Markets. Looking forward to the forthcoming refurbishment of the Boathouse. This will make it even more attractive.

Room was quite small but bathroom a reasonable size with a good shower. room could have been cleaner and restaurant was in need of a refurbishment which I understand is planned. Restaurant staff were all friendly, cheerful and happy to oblige. Although parking area is not over large we always managed to find a spot.

Room and food good/OK. Staff and Service VERY good. Riverside location and floating deck add touch of perfection. Uphill walk through Grosvenor Park to city centre less than 15 minutes. We’ll return on our next visit.
