The walls are so thin, you hear everything. People don’t try to keep volume down, lots of families with young children running around on the wooden floors. They provide earplugs in every room so this must be a known problem. We slept terrible since it went on after 24:00 and started at 6:30 again.
When your business is selling a place to sleep, that’s what people should be able to do.

Nice updated spot but more like a hotel/hostel vibe than ryokan. Excellent Black Ship coffee right out front. The staff was super friendly and helped us get a reservation at an excellent sushi spot. The private Onsen baths were great. The rooms were clean and it was nice to have a bathroom in our room. Bikes for rent.
The ryokan is on a busy street so there can be some road noise esp. during the morning work commutes. Our room was a bit small and it was hard to fit our luggage inside when the futons were set out.

The room we booked was a cheap, small room for two. However it was cleverly designed with futon style beds that it didn't feel too cramped at all for the two of us and in fact rather cozy. Easy access to the private onsens you can use and vending machines on each floor. English speaking receptionist which always helps.
Lack of clarity over where to park upon arrival. We asked after we had checked in and by that point we had left our car elsewhere, which we were told was fine. A message a day before the checking in flagging the location of the parking area would probably be helpful for future guests.

newly renovated/ refurbished, all very clean, stylish interior, good room size, very good coffee in the attached coffee shop in the morning hours, good location next to the harbor, all in walkable distance, very friendly owner and staff, parking spots available

The room was extremely clean. The futons provided were not that thick, but they provide a foldable mattress to place underneath, making for a very comfortable night of sleep.
The walls are a bit thin, so you can hear it when other people are opening their room doors.

Great little no-frills hotel in Shimoda next to the michi-no-eki. Free parking. Used the two private onsen quite a bit during my stay.

The atmosphere, the room, the bath, everything was wonderful.
The coffee and the smoothie sold during the morning were delicous.
I highly resommend this ryokan.
