Good hotel for a stay in Mysore. Fools quality was also good.

We spent a delightful 4 nights at the Royal Orchid Metropole. It has a good location, just 5 or 10 minutes from the Palace by auto rickshaw. It is a genuine heritage property, and the furniture and fittings are OLD, they are certainly not 'tired' or 'faded'. Don't stay here if you expect hot water at the turn of a tap (it takes 15 mins to heat up). We found ourselves upgraded to a maharajah suite which was huge, with an enormous L-shaped balcony and an extra-large bed made from two large singles put together. Despite its size it was spotlessly clean. The staff team are welcoming, smiling and eager to please. We had two minor niggles - we did not have a working fridge until the third time of asking, and our room key cards had to be re-coded several times. There is an adequate if minimal gym/fitness room and a small, clean pool to cool down in the hot afternoons, and just enough loungers. Dinner at the courtyard restaurant was varied, tasty and reasonably priced, but there are so many multi-cuisine restaurants in Mysore that you can easily dine more cheaply if you need to. Breakfast was most often a good range but it was a little inconsistent, except for the pastries which were uniformly dry and lacking in taste or texture.

Disappointment after Disappointment
We opted to splurge on the Royal Orchid Metropole Mysore based on previous reviews and the sumptuous photographs of promotional materials.
On arrival, I had high hopes that my expectations were going to be met—the hotel is lovely & the staff appeared welcoming. Unfortunately, our room was probably the least desirable of the hotel—steps from a dining area & and the “private” patio looked out over the parking lot (see photo). There was constant noise primarily from the overly loud piped in music (cheesy Christmas songs) within the hotel, techno music from a neighboring hotel, and traffic from the street.
The electrical wiring within the room was alarming, turning the overhead fan on/off created sparks and a burning smell (staff response “we’ll look into it” but they never did) and flickering overhead lights. We kept the fan off.
When my husband showered, the bathroom floor and beyond flooded due to clogged drains. I opted to use the claw foot tub & realized there was no place to rest soap/shampoo.
The most upsetting incident was the Christmas Eve gala dinner, an option available at additional cost that I chose when reserving the room and confirmed through the hotel months before arriving. On Christmas Eve we arrived in the dining area and told the waiter that we had ordered the gala dinner & he immediately responded that there was no gala dinner for our room number. I responded that I had reserved the gala dinner when I reserved the room a

Sadly the property is falling apart. We had to walk through a hallway where the broken floor was covered with a heavy (Jute?) rug, so it was covered up and an unsteady person might fall. Room for two had only one chair to sit on. Nice courtyard, but overall over-priced. Receptionist made the currency choice on my charge without checking with me and I barely glanced. She said she could not re-do. Manager standing nearby said nothing. No apology from either. Breakfast staff, excellent. Other staff well-intentioned, but could use more training. Also noisy at night. Other hotels offer much better value in Mysuru.

I stayed at the Royal Orchid Metropole for one Saturday night and was very impressed.
An authentic Indian hotel and a nice change from the chains I usually stay in for work.
Perfectly located within walking distance of the market and Mysore Palace.
Service was great, with a warm welcome. The buffet lunch was good, breakfast was ok with a great omelette.
I was upgraded to a ground floor luxury room which was lovely - the bed was very comfy, the bathroom good (remember to turn the hot water on!) and lovely to have a balcony.
I found the street noise ok, but I travel with silicon ear plugs.
Overall highly recommended for a stay in Mysore, I would love to return.

We loved the Royal Orchid Metropole hotel. Our room was very spacious and well appointed, with a comfortable bed and big balcony. The courtyard seating and restaurant are really beautiful and relaxing to sit in. The staff were perfectly helpful and attentive. The food was delicious at every meal. The location is also great (traffic noise notwithstanding) as it's a short walk to the train station and the palace.
The only thing we would change is the hotel bar, which doesn't have much of a range of drinks (especially if you want good wine, or a cocktail that's dry rather than sweet).

Poor experience overall, our room was not ready when we checked in at 4pm, needed to ask for additional bed even though specified at booking, AC unit broke down on 2nd day due to lack of maintenance and we needed to move to a smaller room instead, not recommended

Check in and checkout were terrible. Check in took 45 mins even though there wasn’t much of a queue. Check out: international credit card wouldn’t work due to their system being down. The same card worked all over in MysoreOtherwise, stay was comfortable. It’s a nice property and central in location

This property is ideal for certain people; but not for me. I need the room size to be a lot larger. It is an old property which was once a grand location and meeting place. So it does not look modern. I would still stay here if I had very little luggage. Their laundry service lacked superior quality. The best part about this place is the outdoor dining, under the stars and the excellent wait staff. That is what you stay here for. Their Jim is minimal. Security personnel round the clock. Not far from center of city.

Excellent start to our southern India experience. Beautiful hotel, lovely cool grounds with shady trees, balcony to each room, character & historic hotel swimming pool, free yoga classes. And top restaurant with outside dining area within the hotel. Only negative was that WiFi not really working in the room, but was fine in the public areas. Location walking distance to palace and other sights.

Good hotel, very good service.

The issue is the extrabed cost of 1500 INR plus taxes. Indeed rooms for 3 are not available. So we book a room for 2 plus one children of 15years. And we had a price of 10500 INR plus taxes to which they charged 1500 more. The discussion was not productive and I have to pay to be released. How can we be reimbursed?

This is a heritage hotel - a historic building and atmospheric, but maintenance could be better. It is a bit worn around the edges, rooms are a bit dark and musty. My big complaint was the service--there never seemed to be anyone around in the restaurant/coffee shop and it took a very long time to get even basic food. Add to this, two members of our party contracted food poisoning after dinner here. The housekeeping staff was very helpful about changing sheets/towels because of sickness, but the downstairs staffing and service needs improvement, particularly for an establishment that charges five star rates. Very disappointed.

It’s an heritage old property so there is the old school charm however the upkeeping and maintenance is lacking. Still keeping in mind the limited supply in Mysore, it is a nice choice

One of the best stays I have had in a long time. The rooms are beautiful, Majestic and rich in heritage. The breakfast could have been better but overall a very good stay. If possible go for the Maharaja suite.
