Great accommodation for a family. So much space and very well equipped not only kitchen but toys for the children. Shona was a great hostess always ready to answers any queries we had. We loved the pool which was perfect for the children to play in. We had a great week and would highly recommend.

Architecturally beautiful, and well appointed. The owner is justifiably proud of the property, and quite attentive. An impressive list of house rules reflects a real concern for the care and protection of the house, and the owner was noticeably present through our stay. She was kind enough to remind me (via text, and a handwritten note) a couple days in to our stay, that there was sand outside at the entry ( I don't think that she entered the home in our absence ), and this might damage the oak floors if it was tracked inside. She placed a hose, some towels, and a hand broom at the entrance to the home for our convenience. The home was clean inside, (4 stars for the pool and deck, apparently under renovation), beds comfortable, kitchen quite nice and well appointed. The aesthetic of the house with the art, architecture, woodwork and craftsmanship is special. This house is not just a rental, but is the owners' cherished home, and it shows.

This property was perfect for our family, including our young grandchildren. The house is spacious and contained everything we needed and more. The gardens and private pool are beautiful. The host, Shona, was so kind and responsive and made sure we had everything we needed for a fun vacation. We hope to return!

Loved our stay in Shona’s beautiful home. It is so well appointed and spacious. Super comfy beds with high quality sheets made for great sleeping. The pool is huge and so enjoyable….water temp perfect. We are already planning a return trip!! 5 stars all day for this host and her home!!

Perfect location for our family vacation. Many things to do, restaurants to choose. The house was perfect size for three couples to spread out and enjoy their own space, by the pool, den, study, garden.

We stayed at Casasol for 5 nights with our adult children. It was perfect for the occasion. Huge so everyone had space, very clean and a superbly equipped kitchen. We have stayed in a lot of properties and never seen such a well equipped kitchen! Shona was super helpful prior to arrival, recommending restaurants etc and very quick to reply. Thank you Shona!

My wife and I vacationed at Casasol to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and had a most excellent time. Casasol is a gorgeous home with an exquisite garden and pool. The home is filled with all sorts of excellent details, comfortable furniture, and entertainment equipment. While the house is historic and elegant, the entertainment electronics, internet network, and appliances are all state of the art. The hosts were extremely friendly and accomodating. all-in-all a great experience at a great place to stay.

We very much enjoyed our stay in La Jolla. The home is located in an attractive residential neighbourhood, is spacious and surrounded by a beautiful garden.

The property was spacious and well appointed. The cleanliness of the house needed improvement-kitchen cabinets had greasy handles, kitchen floor stained. Owner requesting that we wash and dry the used bath towels (which we did) was shocking since we paid a housecleaning fee. The owner also accused us of a stain on the kitchen floor and scraping the living room floor with furniture and went after the insurance to get more money, she returned only half our security deposit. We are respectful guests and did not abuse this property. The owners should not be renting their beautiful house that they live in full time in the off season, since they are overly attached to this residence.

Lower hermosa was the perfect setting for our multigeneration family gathering. We were met at this spacious, charming and historically interesting home by the owner, Shona, who made us feel welcome and comfortable in her exceptionally beautiful home. It was helpful to have her point out the important features throughout the house. The pool provided the central activity for all ages and the patio was luxurious with its gardens and and surroundings. Each room is beautifully appointed while also providing a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen was well organized and we had fun making meals and enjoying them in the substantial dining room. Each bedroom was comfortable and the bathrooms were well located throughout the house. We were able to enjoy being all together in one space, or spread out and let individuals have private time or small group gatherings. Beyond the property we had easy access to a ten minute walk through a beautiful neighborhood to wonderful beaches where the children played in tidal pools, rode the waves, enjoyed the sunsets. Stores and restaurants are nearby and fun to visit. We want to thank Shona and Barry for giving us the opportunity to enjoy their home and make this a truly perfect family reunion. Deborah and David

This was our second time staying at this lovely home in La Jolla. Shona and Barry are the very best hosts and are always available for any questions or inquiries. We stayed for two full weeks with our kids and my in laws from New York. The home has every possible item you would need to cook meals and grill outside. The pool is enormous and provided hours of fun for our kids (12 and 7) each day. Upgraded wireless internet made it easy for my husband and I to pick out our office spaces for our stay on opposite ends of the home. I highly recommend this home as the perfect getaway spot for your family and friends.

It was a magical week from the first day we set foot in this beautiful home. Shona and Barry made the process so easy, even accommodating our cancellation last year due to Covid. My daughter and son-in-law and my three grandchildren enjoyed the house as much as I did! We all especially enjoyed the beautiful pool and the gorgeous landscaping throughout. We will definitely be back!

When we were looking for a property to rent for our daughters graduation we knew the area we wanted to be in and yes there were a lot of options, but once you experience Casasol everything will pale in comparison. The home is beautiful but what made our stay so special was the attention to detail. Everything you could possibly want or need was available. So many thoughtful details. Not one thing was overlooked. We just wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Shona and Barry for a truly memorable vacation

From the first inquiry I knew Casasol was going to be the perfect choice for my family holiday get together. My Sister, husband and I (mid-late 50’s) and 2 daughters (20,24)needed a place to host our parents (who live locally) for lunch each day. Shona was wonderful with every detail- and that is exactly how I found her beautiful home. Not a detail was missed. Both the living room and the family room were cozy/ comfy -several couches and chairs recline! The beds were all extremely comfortable and fresh. Plenty of blankets and pillows available for a picky guest to swap out. Bathrobes for everyone ( I regret not getting a family photo with us all wearing them (; ) My husband had to work several mornings and the office space off the west bedroom was sunny, nice and a happy place to Zoom call away! The bathrooms were generously stocked with everything from bath salts to assorted body washes to facial cleansers-the east bedroom was even outfitted with a bidet toilet-nothing was missed! The kitchen was even more outfitted if that’s possible. With a profession chef background, I am sometimes a little frustrated making meals in rental homes- lacking serving platters, large cookware, cutting boards and most often dull knives-not the case here. There wasn’t a kitchen appliance or tool I could think of that this kitchen didn't have! Truly. Considering the lovely large carved wood dining room I should have known better. It was a delight cooking in that kitchen. It was spacious and allowed my sister, girls and I a wonderful time each day bonding over the noontime meal. The pool was large and pretty, just like the pictures. There are pool towels and noodles in the pool family bathroom. I used the BBQ twice- easy, large, great. The garage is stocked with all sorts of beach toys, towels and chairs. The 2 bikes were really fun for my daughters who went out riding every morning. I absolutely loved the living room for it’s fabulous fireplace. This wood smelled terrific and crackled.( and there was at least a cord in the rack). It was a lovely trip. As for COVID - the home was super clean when we arrived. We let our selves in and spoke with Shona on the phone. She was an email away. Our family had been quarantining for 2 weeks prior and had been covid tested so we could spend time with my elderly parents. My brother sadly had to bow out at the last moment due to several positive tests at his workplace. We are grateful for the time spent with them at Casasol.

Staying at Casasol was better than we could have imagined. Not only do Barry and Shona have an amazingly well kept and beautiful historic home, they also provided everything you could possibly need to enjoy your time there. They had all the beach items, kitchen items, bathroom items, and entertainment/technology items necessary. There was nothing overlooked and they provided all the information needed while also being readily available for any other questions. The location was perfect to enjoy a little bit of everything that La Jolla and San Diego have to offer. Can’t wait to make it back!!

We loved our stay here. This house is truly beautiful and well-cared for. It's built in the 1920's and in wonderful condition. Shona is an amazing host. She was very communicative and welcoming and helped us acclimate to the neighborhood. We very much look forward to coming back soon.

This home is just beautiful! It’s got such old La Jolla charm while being fully stocked with everything you could need. The pool is pristine and we enjoyed every minute. The owners left many recommendations for restaurants and I was able to reach out and ask them if they knew of a masseuse that could make house calls. We had the most wonderful massages outside by the pool. It was amazing! Highly recommend this home to anyone looking for something a little extra special.
