-We were picked up from the bus stop punctually by the hotel staff upon our arrival. This is much appreciated as we would not have wanted to lug our luggage on steep slopes. We were also sent back to the bus stop on our departure.
-The staff is very accommodating and explained to us where the baths are and its timings, and each dish during meal times, among other things. They were also attentive to our needs and communicated in both English and Japanese. Such good customer service.
- The hotel has a very traditional look. It probably is a heritage conservation building. Everyone is taking photos of the building and the bridge itself.
-The environment is quite peaceful and calming, with the sounds of the river and smell of the wood.
-The room is traditional, and has a view of the river and the town. We stayed in the Fuji Room.
-The cave baths are a truly unique experience. A bit creepy, but different. I especially loved the open air baths, both public and private.
-Dinner has an open charcoal pit in the middle, grilling fish and barbequing wagyu beef. The food was great, and we enjoyed it!
-The location is in the middle of town and is nearby commercial establishments.
-We've had better breakfast from other ryokans.
-The indoor public bath is a bit rundown. We just used it to shower before going to the outdoor baths and cave baths.
-There's a bit of a climb to reach the private open air baths, and we were paranoid we could be clearly seen from the outside (hopefully not!) XD
-The room's toilet requires better ventilation

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Some spoke English. Outdoor private onsen was lovely.
Kaiseki dinner was superb
No shower facilities in our room, or in some of the public bathing areas

Location is excellent, at the heart of the village. Staff is Good, the one at Reception is fluent in English. The man to help in Parking Lot is excellent, polite and effective. The old man at night shift is extremely helpful in providing us all the stuff for Night Snack and Drinks:-)

We spent 3 nights at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nihonbashi Kayabacho hotel after arriving in Japan (There is another Fresa Inn in the area, so make sure this is where you have your reservation).
It is a relatively modern, functional hotel sometimes referred to as a business hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very small as is typical in Tokyo but very clean and functional. The hotel is convenient to Tokyo station (20 minutes walking as a reference).
After arriving on the Narita Express or by others means to Tokyo station, follow signs to the Tozai line (sky blue) subway. The easiest way to know which direction to go is to look at the numbers representing the stops. The Tokyo station stop at Otemachi is T-9 and you want to go to T-7 Kayabacho. Leave the Kayabacho subway station via Exit 7 and the hotel is just around the corner.
From Kayabaco or the nearby Nihonbashi station, you can get all around Tokyo on the highly efficient subway system. Use a Suica, Welcome Suica or Pasmo card to enter and exit subways and avoid the hassle of figuring out which ticket to buy or how much they coat. Just tap and go. Enjoy.

EXPERIENCE JAPAN LIKE THE JAPANESE
We decided to spend a couple of days in central Kyushu to enjoy a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. Boy, was that a great call!
I88We stayed at the Yama no Yado Shinmeikan in the Kokura Onsen area, which is an hour north of Aso city by bus.
The ryokan is 130 years old but is clean and well-maintained. It features a total of 5 unique onsens, including one carved into a cave. The ambiance is terrific and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The ryokan is located along a flowing river and the sound of running water adds to the relaxing quality of the stay. (The Fuji room is best).
All accommodations are traditional Japanese tatami rooms which are made up for sleep each night by the staff as you enjoy the onsen baths.
Nothing. One of our best experiences in Japan.

The cave onsen and private outdoor bath.

The food is mediocre not to Onsen omakase standard. The Onsen is open to public and full of people till 4 pm.
The food and room is small.

Service is excellent. We have paid for dinner and breakfast and the spread is really good.

Excellent Ryokan in Kurokawa! Great location with the stretch of small shops right outside the Ryokan. Food was great too with the spread of traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. Enjoyed our 2 nights stay very much!

The onsens, the fabulous meals and the magic room, so traditional !
Nothing, all was wonderful !

The cave onsen was great. It had large sections of the cave. That was specifically why I went there.
It was a bare bone experience. That is, I paid about a couple of hundred dollars only to sleep in a room and lie in the onsen. The outdoor onsen was covered so I wasn't able to see the stars. I could only see the walls. It is listed as a co-ed onsen, but it is limited to one pool for three hours. The guests wear special bathing suits made of some kind of plastic fiber.

Hearth dinner was an amazing experience.
They have multiple Hotspring that you can enjoy.
Rooms were just nice.
It’s like being and living in the old times.
Staff were very accommodating especially Kanesei San,she’s one of my favorite and I think one of the oldest staff who works there…she took care of me well.

Right on the river. Beautiful room, best ryokan experience we have had, though Kurokawa is an expensive place to stay. Staff were extremely helpful, even helped us book a vegetarian meal at another restaurant in town before we arrived and parked our car for us in the tight Kurokawa village streets. Private onsen was able to be booked on arrival, included in the accommodation fees, for a 40min time slot which was the perfect amount of time.
The only shower facilities are the communal onsen facilities. This is normal, but be aware for foreign travelers who haven't experienced this before. Parking in Kurokawa is very difficult.

Good location
Most of the dishes for the breakfast are too cold even small fillet, seems like just taking out from the fridge. It's a bit disappointed and unacceptable.

Booking.com screwed up. We were charged for 3 adults and served adult kaiseki food also for our 8-year old daughter. In my 24-years of traveling around Japan, this error has never been made. We had to buy kids friendly food separately.
