The staff members were very kind and accommodating. Communicating with the staff in English was smooth and straightforward. Although the room wasn’t exceptionally spotless, all the staffs including those in buffet restaurant work hard to accommodate me. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who’s planning to enjoy the city of Dalian.

Spacious room yet not as well managed as l expected.

The bathroom is too fancy yet not practical. The tap on the sink was square in shape. Once turned on the water splashing out as waterfall. Wasting water. The bath shower is not practical too. The big shower is not working properly and the small one is like a tube. The water control tap turning on water too complicated. The safety box not working. The management sent three staff to fix it with no avail. The A/C control is not working properly, either too cold or too hot. Everyday the breakfast restaurant is like a war zone. Every time waiting for escalators is a test of patience. 6 escalators could have been programmed more efficiently. We paid more than CNY$9000 for five nights. The security staff were even worse as they allowed fans to be wandering inside the premises for several days pursuing their stars.

great place to stay

The location would be perfect for first-time visitors to Dalian like myself, local amenities all within a stone’s throw away from the hotel itself (even taking into consideration the scale of Chinese cities). All the staff I’ve met have been welcoming, kind and keen to help. Mr Amber Liu and Mr Yong Zhang from the concierge were both of great help for my (very late) arrival and departure, and all other members were always there to answer my millions of questions I had about going out and about in the city. Old school or not, the pocket-sized map has been a lovely little addition to my adventures in town. I am planing my next trip to Dalian already, and I will without a doubt, be staying with IC Dalian again.

One incident happened on the second last day of my stay. I got a phone call from the reception/front desk staff notifying me that a visitor was here to see me, when I was not expecting any. After I firmly declined to give permission to someone of a name I have never heard of to come upstairs - I still had a stranger (male, not escorted) at my door ringing my doorbell 5 minutes later. To say that it gave me a fright would be an understatement, as a female solo traveller staying at a hotel with lift access supposedly secured with key cards. I am not so sure why a visitor was still allowed to the floor I was staying at after such permission sought by the front desk had been clearly rejected by me. This person eventually left the corridor, and he might well be a genuine visitor of another guest who just remembered the room number wrong, but it did shock me a little that day. I do hope it won’t happen again to any other guest(s) in the future.

As mentioned in my other review, all the staff I’ve met have been extremely professional and kind. Particularly, Mr Amber Liu and Mr Yong Zhang from the concierge, and Ms Cao and other housekeeping staff who kept my room in order everyday for this lengthy stay. The infection control cautions in place have made me feel quite safe, which I think is a plus during the ongoing crisis/pandemic. The choices for food at breakfast are plenty, although probably not the place to be if you are a person whose mornings depend on a proper Full English like me.

It is aesthetically pleasing.

The staff at the hotel that I interacted with are very disrespectful. I checked into my own room, 4005, on Friday the 4th. My friend and her husband also stayed there for a few days before I arrived and we met there to spend a portion of the holiday. They stayed on floor 39 and I stayed on floor 40. In the morning I was at breakfast with my friend and a worker came to me while I was eating to ask me my room number after I already provided the information at the door upon arrival to the breakfast buffet. She assumed that I was a guest of my friends and had not paid for my own room and breakfast. I told her my room number then went over to the desk to ask her why she inquired about my room number when I already gave the information. She proceeded to act as if she did not speak English. She did not even try to find an English speaker to assist me. Upon check out, my friends checked out of their room and I was on the line waiting to be called by the receptionist. The receptionist ignored me and took two Chinese speaking guests that walked in front of me on the line. At that point I asked her if she did not see me standing in front of her with my bags, waiting to be called for checkout. She and her colleague claimed that they thought I was staying in the same room as my friend and her husband which insulting to me as a paying customer. There is no reason for them to have assumed we were together in the same room other than they discriminated based on my ethnicity. I am a working professional educator here who came to the Intercontinental for a leisure trip for one night. I will not stay at this hotel again. They are very disrespectful and treated me very badly as a foreigner. I did not feel welcomed or valued as a paying customer.

The hotel is clean.

It was a horrible experience. The service was the worst! Amongst other bad service moments- We ordered room service and after waiting an hour for 2 Angus beef burgers we were given stale rock hard buns, DRY patties and what looked like left-over frozen fries. It was really insulting, we couldn't eat it. I read some positive reviews but maybe those people either didn't understand Chinese or we were racially profiled because I fully understood what the receptionist (pretending she was a manager) was saying to her friend and it was rude and dismissive. I would NOT recommend. It's a pity because the hotel is beautiful and clean but who ever hires the kitchen and front of house staff has some training to do. They ruined my birthday week.

The support from all the staff is perfect. They were kind and courteous to my requests as I do not speak Chinese.

Hard to find.

The staff tried to accommodate at every turn. When the room had an issue they tried to fix it. When the shade fell on me they offered dinner.

The room was very outdated and had a strong, unpleasant scent. Breakfast options were just okay, not as many options and variety day to day as other intercontinental hotels in the mainland. Also the food was often cold. The pool staff could be more professional. The young girl stayed on her phone in the backroom during most of the 4 hours I was there. Roombwas also too hot and couldn't change the setting.

Spacious, bed is just right, soft but supportive, pillows are great, large and not too flat, I love the lemon smell of the bath soap, soap, and shampoo products. The location is great! You can walk to Victory Square, train station, Zhongshan Square, and malls around the area.

The first day I arrived, I found a hair beside the bathtub but after I called the room service to clean again, the person cleaned and sanitized the bathroom again. There’s no fruit offered to guests on the first arrival day or any day. All the condiments cost money. The swimming pool is half deep water and half shallow water. The temperature of the pool tends to be cold in general, you need to get in the water and swim a while to warm up. The light in the room tends to be dim. I prefer brighter light in the room but there were only lamps available.
