About this cabin rental
An authentic Mt Hood cabin hand-built in 1922 and lovingly restored. Simple and rustic and charming! If you love hand-crafted details, you'll fall in love with Mt Hood’s Cedarwood Cabin.
A beautiful enamel woodstove is the centerpiece--perfect for curling upon rainy evenings with a book and blanket.
The comfortable bed sleeps two, and the folding futon couch can offer an additional sleeping spot.
The kitchen is basic, but has tools to turn your groceries into yummy meals: a plug-in hot-plate and microwave, coffee grinder, french press, coffee maker, waffle iron, and an assortment of bowls, dishes and utensils are at the ready—but NO OVEN (just be aware for your grocery planning.) Or enjoy the nearby restaurants and brewpubs of Welches.
This cabin, like all historic cabins, is by design, a rustic and simple structure: It can get chilly in the morning; it has simple cooking set up; and the attached bathroom is just a step out the back door, with sink, shower, and toilet, and electric code lock.
Tucked in a wooded neighborhood just off the main Mt Hood Hwy 26, Cedarwood is conveniently located for all that Mt Hood has to offer. It’s close enough to be in civilization, but also feels like stepping back in time into a private cabin world inside. Guests have found it a magical place to slow down, unwind, unplug, relax. You won't find a TV, but you'll find fun books on hiking and Mt Hood history, places to read, to rest, to reconnect. Fall asleep to the gentle patter of rain.

Cedarwood is a special place. It is rustic but still has modern amenities. The location is the perfect launching point to all the outdoor activities that Mt Hood has to offer (we went on several awesome hikes). Ian is the ideal host and was very attentive to our needs. We would absolutely stay here again.

This cabin was cute, cozy and clean. We appreciated learning about the interesting cabin history. It was a great home base for quick, easy trips to beautiful places like Little Zig Zag Falls. In retrospect, I think we would have preferred a place in a location where we could have done some exploring/hiking without driving. The cabin is in a quiet, wooded area with other houses around, but there didn't seem to be any trails immediately accessible. Otherwise, fantastic!!

We rented this cabin for my birthday and it was simple amazing. So clean and stocked fully with everything you could think of and even a few things you might have forgotten. Ian was a great host and provided wonderful, easy directions. Also the little book he leaves in the cabin to educate you on how it all took place was a great idea! We will definitely be back😁

We loved the beautiful little cottage in the woods close to Mt. Hood! It was a lovely night for my 8-year old, husband and I.

Awesome historical cabin tucked away in the trees! Would absolutely come again!

The property manager was prompt and gave decent directions. There wasn’t any wood for the stove inside or out other than a firestarter. It was chilly and I was tired. We ended up leaving after 30 minutes and booking a hotel.

Hats off to Ian, this place is amazing. He has gone above and beyond to keep this place authentic to it's history and location from the cabin itself down to the record selections. The first thing you notice is the beautiful wood stove with plenty of kindling and wood provided. The bed complete with down comforter and pillows was comfy and toasty. A microwave, hotplate, electric griddle and waffle iron give you plenty of cooking options. Shower was hot with great pressure. You are provided guide books with plenty of hikes, restaurant recommendations and a history of the property. Our 5 year old excitedly asked if this could be our "new winter headquarters" and we completely agree.

Cedar and woodsmoke aromas. Enjoyed building fires as the source of heat and charming atmosphere. Just one quick step through back “porch” to the thoroughly modern (and heated!) bathroom adds to the reminder of days gone by—but it’s so much more comfortable now! Great place to unplug. Let the fire die down and snuggle under the feather comforter through the night. Wake to warm coffee in bed and pancakes on the griddle (if your partner gets up first!) 😉

We loved our stay at this cabin! It was so relaxing and cozy. The games and record player were a big hit with our five year old. Also, the host was very quick to respond when I asked for a few more towels. Highly recommend staying here!

Rustic, comfortable cabin. Specifically stated no fires and neighbors had fires going both nights we were there, also barking dogs kept it from being nice and quiet at night. A shame. Other than that great stay.

Cabin was what we expected, could use a small AC unit for the hot months.

Cedarwood provided the cozy, rustic cabin experience we’ve been looking for!! We will definitely go back.
A couple of tips for people arriving after dark like we did:
1. We never saw the motel sign in the dark. Just watch for the deer sign, and the turnoff is IMMEDIATELY after it.
2. The parking spot is on the main road, BEFORE you get to Shadow Lane.

We had an amazing time hiking in the snow at the ski bowl and then coming back to this cozy cabin. We made hot cocoa & played games. It’s a peaceful getaway!

The Cedarwood cabin is a lovely place to call home for two nights! It was clean, homey, and simple to check into. The wood stove is beautiful with plenty of wood to keep things nice and toasty. We made beef stew in our instant pot and enjoyed nice hot showers with great water pressure. The big band records provided in the cabin really are the perfect touch. The 1 pm check-out time offered us time to wake up slowly and also tidy up the cabin with love before leaving.
2 things I feel I need to share though:
First, as two adults with chronic pain/disability, we had a hard time finding comfortable sturdy chairs to sit in. (Rocking chairs were so cute but rickety, and the futon was slanted/deep and hard to sit upright) Also, the bed frame didn't feel sturdy for our weight and ended up breaking on us while we were napping on it. I would definitely keep this in mind if you aren't smaller adults, and maybe bring your own chair to sit in if you are concerned about options.
SECOND: Though the bed did break, we reached out to the host Ian and got a very timely and friendly response, and Brent a co-host was at the cabin within an hour to fix the bed for us. He was kind and made quick work of it. While we were a bit nervous to sleep on the bed again, it held up for the rest of our stay. 5 stars for communication and emergency assistance!
We will definitely be back if a more solid bed frame is added to the cabin, but I highly recommend the Cedarwood, overall.

We so enjoyed our one night stay at the cabin! My only suggestion would be to add something to the listing or check-in information that you have to step outside to get to the bathroom. Or at least a little sign by the door. We got in late and it was dark and perhaps it took us a few minutes longer than it should have to figure out the situation. But we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get away!

Thank you to the host for making the checkin process simple. We enjoyed our stay at this amazing magical cabin. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to unplug for a minute. What a beautiful place. We will be back ❤️

My partner and I stayed for a night as an early birthday celebration, and we were absolutely smitten with the cabin. Absolutely loved that there was no tv and no Wi-Fi, the fireplace/oven thing was a delight and so warm. Very clean, has all the basic comforts and a little extra. We will definitely book again!

I loved my stay at Cedarwood cabin. I sat out front and watched the wild life and listened to the sound of the breeze through the trees. I got lost in time and I loved it. I loved unplugging from everything and checking out for the weekend. Ian is an amazing communicator and went above and beyond for my trip. I really can't wait to go back.

My wife and I were there for our 38th wedding anniversary...this wonderful little cabin was celebrating its 100. We read the story of the cabin, the families that had owned and stayed here, and we were delighted to add our almost 40 to it. It was the perfect place to be quiet, to reflect, to be still. Very nicely appointed, primitive, comfortable, perfect for a cabin in the woods. The only thing missing was snow and one more day to stay.
