Location excellent for my visit to family in the area. Room clean, warm and comfortable.
This is the third time I have stayed at the Potter's Heron, and the buffet breakfast is not so good as it used to be. Scrambled egg was the only type on offer and seemed to be made with dried egg, and the mushrooms looked dry. It seemed I was expected to make my toast when I selected my breakfast and use the same knife for buttering cold toast. I like my toast hot so made it after I had eaten my egg and bacon etc. so then had to ask for another knife which seemed to mystify the waitress. I suggested they should leave fresh knives by the toasters, but it didn't happen while I was there. There seems to be a problem with coffee. The first morning it was so strong it was undrinkable, and after that too weak. If they offer a self-service breakfast then they need a proper coffee machine. I wish they would go back to a menu and waitress service for breakfast as it was the first time I stayed here. Buffet breakfasts are always cold by the time you get it back to your table. My bathroom was clean, but the grouting look grubby and there had obviously been a leak from the bathroom above at some time so the ceiling was stained as was the grouting.

Parking easy. Comfortable bed. Main building picturesque.
Rooms require decorating. Faulty shower dangerously hot and uncontrollable. Not sufficient tea, coffee etc for our two night stay. Too expensive for what was offered.
3.8
Location.
Rooms not serviced for 3 days. Someone's trousers left in wardrobe. Carpet had not been hoovered.
3.8
Visually very nice. Bar and reception area nicely presented. Staff all friendly
Slow service. Dinner and breakfast. Seemed understaffed and staff doing their best just not enough of them
3.8
Breakfast excellent.
Bed was really comfy, had a great night's sleep
Dinner was a disaster. 80% of the menu was not available. I ended up choosing the steak @ £32, vastly overpriced. Very small. The meal was clearly prepared using frozen and microwaved prepared ingredients ( frozen chips etc). Not what you would expect for a £32 main course. My colleague ended up having to choose the chicken, again this did not live up to the description on the menu. The Chicken was small dare I say "a poultry portion" again served with frozen chips and swimming in what can only be described as a watery sea of Madeira sauce. The whole dining experience was shambolic!
3.8
Bed was comfortable
Dark, stained carpet, dusty, stale smell. Waiting around for receptionist (multiple times), no info in the rooms, very cold.
3.8
Good location for purpose of visit, breakfast was good and bar staff were pleasant.
Outdated rooms and overly priced. Payed for a bottle of champagne to go to a room and this was not done.
3.8
Lovely building and setting. We went for a party
Cost of rooms, which were basically bigger premier inn rooms, price didn’t include breakfast.
3.8
Nothing
Room was tired. Paint peeling round windows. Stains on duvet cover. Noisy fan in bathroom all night.
3.8
The location and staff were lovely
The room was dated, there was mould in the bathroom, the duvet was yellow
3.8
Not a lot apart from ample parking
Room had a bath but no plug, reported to housekeeping, little interest shown. Difficult to sleep due to noise from function suite. Unable to get a meal for out party at 7:45 on a Sunday evening although staff did help with crockery and cutlery when we brought food in.
3.8
Not a lot, when registering we had an extra room booked for us, apparently the fault of bookings.com. Told we had a room upgrade but from what to what was not mentioned.
Rooms allocated near function suite, better to give these rooms to function attendees and rooms further away to those not attending. Food very average and difficult to establish a requirement for a continental breakfast rather than the "full English"
3.8
No hot water in the morning.
3.8
Room was comfortable with door to garden.
There was black mold around end of bath and panel loose behind the toilet. Bathroom could do with a bit of maintenance.
3.8
beautiful outer building, reception area and friendly staff. Comfortable bed and spacious room.
The furnishings in the room are tired, bath not very appealing, musty smell on entrance and toilet did not flush well. The restaurant is over priced for the food quality and the choice is limited.

breakfast
carpets in hallway soiled

Breakfast was excellent. Dinner very good. Room was comfy and clean.
WiFi in room was non-existent

The breakfast on the first day was very good but on the second morning everything was cold.
The location of the hotel was perfect for our needs.
The bathroom was very dated, and the toilet needed a good dose of bleach!
3.8
Good parking, on the face of it cheap. The room was a good size and clean.
Tired, single glazing, radiator under the window which had heavy floor to ceiling curtains which meant most of the heat was wasted behind them. The evening meal was tasty and well cooked, though I have never seen such small prawns in the tagliatelle and £30.00 for 2 coarse.I had one pint of bitter then was told they had run out. It could have been so much better, though it has been a bad year for the industry.
3.8
Nice, pretty comfortable rooms and a good restaurant for all meals.
Not always warm in winter!
3.8
Quiet, comfortable and well equipped. Very friendly welcome. Excellent in every way.
3.8
Breakfast was excellent as was location
Decor seems dated
3.8
Very lovely, spacious and airy. Beautifully furnished and festively decorated for Xmas!
Some staff, although pleasant, occasionally forgot to check on their diners. I waited a long time for my order to be taken and eventually went to the bar to order myself. It wasn't even busy.
3.8
The room was very tired and the bathroom was dirty. The restaurant was overpriced. Vaping in the restaurant was allowed. Breakfast was good but staff attitude not so good. Would never return. Sent my complaints to the management and still awaiting a response.

We loved the hotel and the history behind it.
The hotel has been refurbished in a sympathetic theme.
The staff were friendly and the service great.
We hadn’t booked for dinner so it caused the Manageress a bit of stress as all the tables were booked, but she went over backwards to accommodate our request for dinner.
A excellent Breakfast is preordered at what ever time you would like.
Heaps of parking at no charge.
Nothing, it suited our one night stay.

very relaxed atmosphere, room nice and quiet. staff very helpful and friendly.
overall everything very good. Would have liked some glasses in the room and the bedside lamps seemed to be controlled on one side only. On arrival new receptionist gave us wrong information and advised we could not book dinner.
3.8
The location was great the thatched roof was a real feature, the food was amazing. Following a poor start the experience really improved and I would stay again
The place had a large party the day before and appeared to be recovering. The room was not ready by check in time and we were told that we would be told when it was but after an hour we had to ask again to find out we could access the room and following a long drive this was frustrating
The rooms were clean but ageing and required TLC. I suspect that it is catch up time following Covid and hope it improves

loved the quirky furniture!
firstly on opening the main hotel door could smell damp.
previous guests socks where at the beside so this indicates room was not cleaned properly.
on arrival we passed a group of staff who seen us
walk to reception where no1 was there & 4 minutes it took for a staff member from the group to come over check us in. did email hotel with concerns & no response
i think it’s very overpriced for what it is.
