Great host, super friendly and helpful. Nice kitchen, comfortable bed, convenient location, and speedy internet.

Clean, nice kitchen, outdoor tables outside each room to eat at. Staff was helpful via WhatsApp.
Not many taxi drivers know of the place, so I had to wait longer until I found one willing to give me a ride. The staff is more helpful via WhatsApp than in person. You can't book any tours here, you have to walk the 20 minutes to Luna hostel. The location is in a decent area near the market, but far from the center.
The men in Nicaragua, especially in Estelí, are sleezes. I found letting out a loud scream shuts them up, they look scared. They don't seem dangerous, just weak creeps taught to treat women like food. Taxi driver and shopkeepers asking for my age before my name 🤮🤮 Not the hostel's fault, but it's good to know as a female traveler in this area. Walking with a man doesn't make a difference. Knowing what I do now, I would skip Estelí.

Friendly service.
Super clean room and common areas and kitchen.
Purified water provided.
Fine location, close to bus station. 15 min by foot to the center.
Well equipped kitchen and room.
The only thing maybe to criticize is the size of the room.

no hot water, kitchen was constantly dirty

I cannot recommend this place enough. My partner got sick while we were in there and we had to extend our stay. Although it’s a very annoying thing to happen while travelling, if it happens in a place where you feel safe, comfortable, at home and respected, than it’s all good, and that’s what happened here! The owner was truly looking after us, gave us a special tea to make, etc. She went way beyond what she could have done to make us feel better about the situation! Amazing!

A very nice small family run hostel. The people working there were so nice and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and and the rooms are a very reasonable price.
They organised a very good tour to the Somoto canyon for me.
The only downsode to the hostel was the location as its far from the 'centre' (most bars/restaurants). But it is really close to bothe the bus terminals!
Not such a social vibe if you are a solo traveller but I enjoyed it anyway!

The host waited up late for us as we arrived at 23.00. Such a nice gesture otherwise would have been stranded out on the street. The room is nice also

Lovely small hostel with only a few rooms. Owned and run by a really nice and helpful family that helped me with questions and arranged a tour to the Somoto Canyon.
Good kitchen that was extremely clean. Would stay again
Biggest downside was the location as 'the centre' felt like it was in the north near Parque Central which was a 25 walk away. (But there are shops, restaurants etc nearby so you have everything you need)

Quiet, clean, and very helpful staff. Nice little kitchen, super clean fridge, free filtered water. Excellent value for money.
Not much of a communal area so not very sociable, although not a problem for a night or two.

A real gem of a find, I tell you. I was upgraded to a room with my own bathroom. A real comfortable bed. Very quiet. And a super low price! Much better than the Luna Hostel.
I liked everything

This was the best value stay we had in our entire trip in Nicaragau so far. The entire place is kept immaculately clean. The rooms are small but so cosy nice and comfortable. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and the sheets were so fresh smelling.
There are cute little tables outside each room (there are 5 rooms) in the open air garden. It's full of plants and we really enjoyed relaxing having a coffee, or eating our meals here.
There is a hand washing laundry facility and lines to dry your clothes.
The kitchen had everything we needed and was spotless. Purified water was always available.
Fruit and veggie and supermarket just a few metres away.
In the morning and evening it is extremely quiet. The hotel rooms are set back from the street at the rear of the property.
Perfect location. 5 min walk to bus stop.
We ended up staying longer.
Tip: Somoto canyon tour is definitely worth it. We usually like to do things solo but making our way down the canyon swimming and navigating rocks and supporting the local community (guides, restaurant) was awesome.
Also check out Salto Estanzuela. I loved swimming here under the waterfalls .
There is nothing missing. Everything was perfect.

the bed and pillows were very comfortable, the sheets were soft and clean, the bathroom was clean except ants hiding in the toilet, and some ants by the door

Good location between the bus stops and the owner was friendly and it felt secure.
Shower did not work and the whole place was quite dirty. Rats and cockroaches to be expected but this did feel particularly unclean.

Great kitchen
Nice places to sit outside
Comfy bed
Friendly guy of the hostel
Supermarket and fruit/veggie stands next door
We had a really comfortable time at the hostel, would definitely book the hostel again when we are in Esteli
Small room
Low water pressure at the end of the day, so if you take a shower then you almost have no water. But during the day it’s fine
Far from the center (but for us it was not an issue because of the supermarket and fruit/veggie stands next door)

Good choice in Estelí for budget travelers wanting to do day trips out of the city as both bus stations are close by. Simple but has all you need and very affordable.
The kitchen was a little bit underequipped.

The price of staying here was absolutely excellent. Mariella and her son helped us find a safe place to park our car at night and recommended places to eat which we really appreciated! Very easy to find their place and they were very friendly and helpful! The place was very clean and next to everything we needed for our stay in Esteli!
The only thing we didn't like (which we understand that Mariella cannot control whatsoever) was that it is next to a place/home which makes tortillas to sell so it was very noisy beginning at 3am. Other than that we enjoyed everything about staying at Mariella's Hostal and would recommend anyone staying in the Esteli area to stay here for comfortable, clean and very very affordable stay!

Easy 10 minute walk from the bus station. Tranquil and secure location. Spotlessly clean room with fan and private bathroom with spacious shower. Lines to hang clothing to dry outdoors. Helpful owners. Towel provided.
A bit of a walk from the center. Cold showers. Thin walls so can hear people in adjacent room clearly.

Great value for money, considering you get a basic private room with a towel. There's fresh produce markets just outside the hostel, and a basic kitchen to cook in. Nice family business. Obviously you'll need to speak some spanish to communicate.
If you're a meat eater, check out the BBQ restaurant on the street behind called El Asadero - delicious and quirky decor.

The owner and her family were very nice and very helpful. The location is quiet near from the bus station. Also very near the fresh market. Quiet place to Sleeman the morning.
The roof was leaking. The shower were disgusting. The internet was very slow. The rooms are very small. Not too bad for the price.
8.8 / 10.0
Very friendly and helpful family who owns the place.
They let us use their kitchen (inside their living room) and gave us some very delicious bananas. The room was very clean and the Hostal was within walking distance of both bus terminals.
Tiny rooms with only a curtain for the bathroom instead of a door
