A perfect location to explore the East Sussex countryside. Great staff! Great atmosphere!
We enjoyed our stay and I can recommend it to everyone who wants to feel an authentic English pub experience.
4.1
Breakfast - well cooked full english that satisfied expections .
Shabby ,very dirty, clastrophobic ,expection of garden view wasnt really fulfilled - corner of overgrown undergrowth and buliding work covered in scaffolding .
4.1
Room was clean. Food was good
Room very small and basic. Big noisy kitchen extractor chimney outside window. TV very poor, no swivel so difficult to view from bed which was the only place to sit. Shower barely adequate. Limited car parking on site.
4.1
Lovely meal in the evening and the breakfast was very good, Close to where we wanted to be, comfy beds with a warm room.
Not a lot of parking at the Rose and Crown but there is a park further up the high street next to The Bear. Staff were pleasant but need a bit of training, it was a very busy night we stood for a while at the "please wait to be seated sign" by the bar to check in only to find the person stood in front of us chatting to a patron was a staff member.

Nothing really

A very nice country pub.
The room and bathroom were quite small but adequate.

Old English charm good food

Location for Batemans Nat.Trust property
Breakfast - would have liked to have had a menu! Instead of being asked ‘what do you want’
No frills. Personally would prefer cheaper room and a no breakfast option.
4.1
The location was excellent for our visit and the building was marvellous in and around the bar and eating area being full of history.
The food was average and what a shame that at breakfast we were not asked whether we wanted everything that would have saved wastage.

Staff were lovely, nice little pub tucked away
Lovely location

Rather cramped,
Fine for one night

Food was good, exceptional steak, cooked to perfection. Very helpful breakfast staff, who helped in a difficult situation. Beds were clean with complementary soaps and shower gel/ shampoo. Easy to park.
Very temperamental shower. No sink in the shower room, it was in the bedroom. Dusty bed head and kettle and coffee cups. (Maybe the room hadn't been used for a while.) Unable to open both windows as the previous occupant had broken it. (Very hot weekend) Our room was over the kitchen so it was very hot and a continuous rumbling from the kitchen fan all night. A fan would have been very welcome in the room. Extra lighting needed for late night entry around the back entrance. Sensory lighting only came on when you get to the back door. I would still stay here again..

Nice friendly staff, good food & comfortable bed
Shower stopped working in the morning of departure

In the right location for our needs. Quaint building. Breakfast was amazing. Very friendly staff - on arrival, at the bar, the waiter in the evening and the lady serving breakfast on the morning
The bedrooms were hot, it was an exceptionally hot weekend. Nighttime temp was in the low 20’s. Would have been nice to have a fan in the room, could be kept in the wardrobe when not in use. Not a big deal but would have been a nice touch, they did have a spare electric heater in the wardrobe, so could have a fan, or attach one to the wall.
There was also a dirty towel left in one of the rooms, I’m guessing from a previous guest. Not really an issue. And only one towel in the double room, although that wasn’t a problem as it was a husband and wife sharing, so they were ok sharing

Lovely old country pub in beautiful Sussex village
Room was a little small and quite hot at night. No hairdryer supplied.

Ate in the restaurant which was lovely, staff attentive and food good. There was a band on, which was fine and we were previously warned about it. But the crowds outside our window were very noisy, shouting until late. But, we did sleep well after they left.
4.1
Poor selection of continental style breakfast, no menu just what would you like.
4.1
tucked away in the village very quiet

Breakfast was fine but we were not given a choice and there was no fruit or yogurts!
To have been allowed time to choose our breakfast on the morning not having to decide the day before and then virtually given no time or choice!
4.1
Warm welcome from hosts. Comfortable beds. Excellent included breakfast.
Not easy to find. I should have paid closer attention to the address. Parking not that easy. I was in process of squeezing into a parking space when another motorist informed me that it was not the hotel parking. I could have had my wheel clamped.
4.1
The room was small but had all the facilities, the bed was comfortable and the towels good quality. However, the hotel/pub is very old, and they have made good use of the limited space. Breakfast was included, and was excellent. I particularly liked they had the option of full or half and English! Nice atmosphere in the bar when we returned from our event, the young barman is charming and helpful.
Not too keen on having the washbasin in the room, although difficult to see how one could be fitted in otherwise. A longer socket extension from behind the chest of drawers would have been easier to enable phone/tablet charging.

We only had breakfast the first morning it was closed and nobody on premises for the second morning it was advertised as being open to 23:00 but on our return at 21:55 it was all locked up
The fact that it was closed and that’s not very friendly for a hospitality venue
4.1
Really wonderfully friendly people! And a very cosy pub
4.1
typically gorgeous country inn
it’s not a “didn’t like” just would have preferred fresh orange juice in the morning instead of watery tasting orange
