I had quite a long (5 nights) stay at the Mercure this time. I have been about ten times in the last fourteen years to attend a conference. This time I stayed on for a bit afterwards going out into town on the Sunday evening and to the theatre on Monday. The staff were the friendliest and most efficient they have been in all those stays - their willingness to please was very noticeable. Rebecca at reception (and her colleagues) were very kind and printed out my crossword for me every morning which was a bit of a pain for them because the only printer working for them at that point was three floors up from their desk. Abbie and Rose looked after me very well in the dining room and at breakfast - they are real superstars. Thomas was my waiter at supper on Friday and he was delightful - efficient and charming. My room was comfortable as always, there was good water pressure in the shower and it was all very clean. All the public areas of the hotel were in good condition and the food in the restaurant was much better than I remember it previously. Overall it was a fabulous stay.
The location is great with the bustle and fabulous food of China Town in one direction and the delights of the Arndale Centre in the other. I went to the Exchange Theatre (a short walk from the hotel) to see the brilliant Daniel Kitson and walked to the Old Wellington pub on Sunday afternoon to have supper before Becky Hill at the Arena. Manchester is a great place. I felt safe and loved how busy and vibrant everywhere was.
My only beef is with the WiFi (as it has been on previous occasions). In public areas it is good but I once again found it unreliable in my room. The (quite sophisticated TV) offered the ability to stream from connected devices but in practice the WiFi was too patchy to work properly. My laptop connected reasonably well but my phone and iPad really struggled (so that could have been my issue not the hotel's). It did not materially affect my enjoyment of the stay but it was a minor niggle!

Good location
Room was a little smaller than expected. Usb sockets near bed were charging super slowly

Excellent location for shopping and exploring the city
Pleasant rooms
4.5
Fantastic location, only 8 mins walk from the train station and a couple of minutes from the bus station. The staff were really friendly and even gave us a complimentary ice lolly on arrival! The room was really clean and had everything we needed for the night we stayed. We would definitely return.
The huge double bed was very comfy, although the sofa bed wasn't up to the same standard and was quite hard.

Location central
It was tired and worn out. No air conditioning or ventilation. The room was like a sweat box.

Breakfast was nice, location good
We booked a family room and got a very bad bed for our daughter. When we asked for an extra mattress it was denied and nothing was done. So the first night she slept with springs coming up her back. The big bed was like a trampoline bed.
The next day we got moved to a better family room but the bed there was not great eiither.

Location, good breakfast
Very noisy due to location but the banging lift didn’t help matters

Location, room good , staff really friendly, breakfast choices really good
We had no hot water in shower. This was reported but too late in stay to rectify. We found later this had not been logged. Reported again on leaving to lovely member of staff who passed on to her boss. She offered a 20% refund but said her boss would be in touch and may offer more. That was Sunday. Monday I called again, spoke to same girl who couldn’t understand why he hadn’t followed up report. It is now Wednesday and we have still not heard anything or received any compensation. We really enjoyed our
weekend but not being able to have a hot shower or receiving any follow up has spoiled our experience.

Breakfast excellent
Room a bit bigger, but was fine for our needs

Good location and decently sized room with storage areas.
Lots of things. Car park was difficult to find and we ended up parking somewhere else entirely. I ordered the room for two beds and when we arrived the sofa bed was not in the room. Had to ask the front of staff to aid with this and they took hours to bring in a bed which should have been there when I arrived. There were only 2 charging points and neither was near the bed, which was very inconvenient. In addition, the WiFi didn’t work and I had to use my limited data while I was in the room. Finally, the walls were so thin that we were woken up much earlier than we wanted to be, by a man coughing his lungs out in the next room. Adding to all this, they deliberately inflated the price of the hotel because the Eagles were in town. Meaning we paid a hefty fee for a significantly under par experience. I don't recommend this place and if I return to Manchester, I will be finding alternative accommodation!

There could be more signage to the parking.

Perfect location and lovely views of the city.
Cost of drinks at the bar
4.5
Friendly staff, who responded very quickly to an issue with our room & gave us an alternative room. Ideal location as we had tickets for an event which was taking place in the hotel. The complimentary drinks from the bar was the icing on the cake & made our stay very special.
Pillows were too firm as I'm use to my own, otherwise I couldn't fault.

Great location very clean food excellent staff very professional and helpful
Disappointed that we didn’t manage to get our tv working and also more towels and toilet paper needed

The staff members were great. One of the staff by the name Ademola went the extra mile to correct my negative experience.
First, I was assigned room 711, which toilet had not been cleaned. The towels appeared used and splashed water on the walls and floor.
Subsequently, at about 11:30pm, I got moved to room 716 which had no hot water supply. My partner and I could not shower.
Yet again, after complaining, I got moved to room 1128 at about 12:25am.
I felt relieved however, when the staff member made me aware that I will be refunded my first night room rate plus complimentary breakfast for my two-nights stay.

Friendly staff, made my sister and myself really comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choice, with danishes, porridge and hot food. Some cooked to order. Great location 5 min from train station and town.
No negatives

Just location and breakfast.
In winter, the air conditioner in the house blows cold air. We callled two times, and after almost 2 hours, They brought a big electric heater. There still have a small electric heater in room normally, so it can be seen that the room is usually heated by a small electric heater. The shower also broken. Never see any 4 star hotel like this. And something bit me in the middle of the night and it was very itchy.

room was very clean
No heating , one small fan heater placed in room , no hot water for a bath just a shower

The location was perfect
Paid extra for views but, due to the ancient single pane windows, you couldn't see much.
The lift was useless, the shower leaked, the tea kit wasn't replenished after asking, the parking is a rip off and the staff couldn't care less.
The hotel certainly wasn't worth the price

Location was perfect as was breakfast this morning, staff were very friendly which is a huge plus.
Room was slightly on the cold side.

Location only
Noisy reception like a fish market. Not all lifts are working. Long time to wait disturbing . Not frank front desk staff and most of them not friendly. The room was very cold . Old signs and directions confused most of the customers.

Room was lovely, bed very comfortable, great facilities, lovely view. Breakfast was brilliant, lots of choice, cooked breakfast was hot and tasty.
Central heating wasn't working , was just blowing out cold air so room was freezing. We had to get under bed covers to get warm. We spoke to reception who were very helpful but couldn't manage to get heating working.

The location is good the breakfast was great and the beds were comfortable
Tried to have a bath and the plug was to big for the hole the maintenance man came and changed it for a new one which was the same size as the one he had taken off eventually he found the correct size plug and the bath was trying to be filled but stopped after a while as only lukewarm water came out.
The cleaners didn’t refill the tea facility and even left dirty mugs in room.
No one explained on checking in that if breakfast was booked the day before it would be £5 cheaper.
When trying to book breakfast the girl on front desk didn’t understand English.

convenient location
dates and the bathroom was old chipped and dirty as were the windows. For a 14 th floor allegedly luxury suite it was disappointing and expensive
4.5
Very central, good value for money.
If i was being really picky, it could do with a freshen up but I believe renovations are in progress. This didn't affect our stay.

All staff I encountered were lovely and could not do enough to help me.
The entrance area is not very nice with the refurbishment. My bed had a very dubious looking stain on the base which I only discovered at 1am when I went up to the room. The toilet was constantly dripping and the door was really hard to open and close as it kept getting jammed.
3.5
Location of an event being held in the ball room for Bright horizons
Dated room- hotel in need of an update-cobwebs on chandeliers on main room-small dance floor
