We were delighted to stay here. It is a special place with a very kind host, Jose Pablo, who provided help and advice. Our homemade breakfast was excellent and the room was perfect after a long day out, in the cloud forest. We were so grateful for help with our flat tyre and suggestions for the local garage, who also were excellent, I must add, especially with our basic, almost non existent Spanish! We would really like to return and would definitely stay here again. Monteverde/Santa Elena is a favourite!
Nothing at all. There is plenty of hot water - you just need to turn down the hot tap power to a slower flow and it’s there!

A newer casa in a lovely green setting, quiet with a comfortable bed. The family were welcoming, the breakfast cooked freshly each morning. We found it easy to reach town & nearby activities as we had a car. Thanks Jose for your help!

Clean facilities. Wonderful host and breakfast!
The entrance was hard to find at first but it’s not a big deal.

I loved this property!

Nice room and surroundings. Pablo was a gracious host and helpful with recommendations. He connected us with a freelance guide (Nestor) who was excellent. We enjoyed the property, seeing lots of birds and even an agouti while we were having breakfast. We really liked Monteverde and wished we could have stayed longer.
The lodging was difficult to find and the road was so bad we turned around twice thinking that it couldn't possibly be right. Finally we stopped to get directions. The out of the way location was not great for us as we like to walk around and explore. The roads are generally poor and do not have shoulders, so that was not possible. I was very glad to have a 4x4 vehicle to get around in Monteverde.

Casa Rayo de Luna is off the highway and there is a forest directly behind the small lodge, and it is easy to walk into a very large transitional forest - no charge of course. (It appears to also include a higher elevation cloud forest, but we only hiked there for about a half hour.) Jose, the host was very helpful and his mother prepared an excellent breakfast, especially the homemade marmalade.
Lighting for reading in bed could be better, and a non-slip mat would make the shower floor safer.

The property is a bit outside of the main area of Santa Elena so very peaceful. There's a large outside garden transitioning into a little forest with a trail - great for spotting birds or small animals like agouti. The host was very helpful and spoke English very well. The breakfast had a few options and each one was delicious.
It's a bit of a walk from the town and restaurants area. Pillows were a bit shabby.

Close to town but away enough to have privacy, friendly hosts, good breakfast, clean room, has access to nice walking path in the woods.
The road to get to property is very rocky so it’s rough if you have small car.

Great location, very friendly & accommodating host family. Clean, comfortable room and bathroom.
My room was right next to the kitchen so when people were in there, I heard everything.

We really enjoyed talking with the hosts, super friendly and attentive. The room was exceptional, spacious, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed the fact that it is a small facility. It was very quiet, a little way from the center of town but easily reachable by car.
Nothing! Only that we would have liked to stay longer to have the time to walk around the property as there seemed to be an interesting trail we could have walked. If we go back to Monteverde/Santa Elena, we will definitely go back to Casa Rayo de Luna.

Owner was excellent. Breakfast wonderful, good wi-fi, good parking, quiet location.
No A/C which was fine but the windows should have screens to you can open them and get fresh air without letting bugs in.

Set away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Santa Helena, this rustic bed and breakfast is the perfect place to find some peace and relax. The family who owns this place are wonderful people who truly love hosting guests. They helped me coordinate travel to Selvatura and offered me chamomile tea when I told them I was experiencing a tummy ache ❤
Rooms are clean, adequately sized, stay generally cool (especially at night), have plenty of linens (blankets and towels), and soap is kept in the bathroom for use. The grounds themselves are beautiful, well kept, with plenty of parking. There's also a small trail on the property that takes you to a creek. I encourage exploring, especially so you can meet Thor, their beautiful golden retriever.
Lastly, most activities are within a 10-20 min driving distance. Make sure to visit the nearest great eating spots (Monteverde Brewing Co & Bon Appetit), which are within a 10 min walk.
There wasn't anything not to love! I equated this stay to a cabin in the woods. The walls are thin and you won't have AC, but my expectations were clear from the get go and I was personally looking for a more local experience in Monteverde.

Our hosts Sebastian and Carmen were so friendly and would make you feel like you were at your home away from home. They made a delicious breakfast and our bed was super comfortable. The location is 5-10min drive from things we wanted to see and do in the area! There are lots of birds to birdwatch from your porch too :)

Lovely room, beautiful bathroom. Very clean. Good breakfast. Close to town. Slept like a baby. Would recommend.

Very quite tranquil place with a lovely sunset view. The host José Pablo went beyond our expectations. Providing details info about MonteVerde and things to do around the area. He was kind enough to share his passion about coffee which was very interesting. The family business ran by very nice and attentive people. Although located slightly away from the village enter, it was only a 5min drive from all the interesting touristic spots and resturants.
Place needs clearer signing to property once off of the main road. Can’t fault anything else.

Very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was very good. Allowed us to leave our luggage after we checked out while we toured the area.

Lovely, super clean room & quiet gorgeous location!
A drawback is that it’s a bit far - but the quiet works for people with a car or taking taxis / shuttles around town.
