Everything about this hotel was excellent. It exceeded my expectations. The staff were super nice and friendly and the room was huge with both futon and beds available. My son especially loved having the personal hot spring in the room as well.

I personally like the in-room onsen.
I'm quite tall and my feet tend to be on the larger side so the traditional slipper that they provided is under size.

Really fabulous place. Food is Michelin star. Staff are attentive. The onsen is lovely.

The rooftop onsen was great, with a nice lounge area and good views.

1) Breakfast and dinner were amazing.
2) Staff were nice and helpful.
3) Onsen was relaxing with couple of choices.
There has been noisy flowing water in the restroom upstairs and it could also be clearly heard in the living/bedroom room. Thought it was due to the rainy weather at the very beginning but it continued afterwards at night. In addition, there was sort of construction/elevator noise heard from time to time as well in the room. Two kinds of noises going on continuously in a room and you could imagine how annoying it is. Though changed afterwards, staff should have been aware of the issues/problems prior to assigning this room.

Wonderful staff and facilities!
4.3
Nicely decorated
Suitcases need to bring up and down the long staircase inside the room because there are two levels.

This is a destination ryokan. Wonderful, sincere, kind and well-trained staff. The onsen in the suite is huge and wondrous (at 6'1", I could stretch myself out completely, albeit diagonally). Navigating the stairs are a bit of a challenge if you do not travel as light as the Japanese. The suite is enormous but there is a large tatami room for two adults to sleep w/ futon that is useless if you travel as a couple.
However, the highlight are the meals. You absolutely must purchase the breakfast and dinner! It is fabulous!!! Reservations are required because you are served in your own "room" (just you and your party). The food is fantastic in every sense of the word. They try to include farm-to-table as well (the local small farmed rice was the absolute bomb).
The stairs are tough with large luggage.
Staff suggested catching the shuttle, even though we arrived at night. In the dark, it was quite hard to locate the ryokan, esp while dragging our bags.
TIP: catch a cab from the airport!!!

The hotel looks quite ordinary from the outside, but the inside of the hotel is well decorated and stylish. The rooms are large and there is a private onsen in the room. The hotel provides private rooms for breakfast and dinner.
The inside of the hotel is cleaned very well except the window glass in the room that is quite dusty.

Great staff. Check-in comprised of an invitation to sit for tea and very nice confections while they deal with the rigmarole of confirming your reservation details. Wonderful facilities. Wonderful room (Wa-Modern suite). The in-room private onsen-fed bath was excellent. Wonderful water. Bath is perfectly sized for a couple to enjoy (three might be a doable if you're small). The in-room private sauna was a great surprise and was utilized multiple times as well. Excellent Japanese-style breakfast. Room was constantly stocked with water, beer, and hot/cold teas along with a changing selection of confections. Beautiful views out both the guest room as well as the sitting area outside the rooftop onsen. Excellent coffee and tea, and free for all guests at the downstairs cafe (which features a great view as well).
Some Japanese ability is needed to converse with most of the staff you meet post-check-in. Was difficult to convey details related to how the room was/could be set up (when to set out the futon, for example). Dinner was good but a little on the expensive side. Compared to the personal bath/onsen, the rooftop onsen doesn't offer quite so many reasons to visit.

Most of it.
You can have some vending machine somewhere in the hotel. Since there’s only tea/beer/water in each room. If I want some soda, juice, or coke, I have to walk a long way to find some outside, especially after 9pm, so difficult.
